Florida Diamond Pros help keep the Baseball D1 Dream alive…
July 1, 2010
As far as summer baseball goes, there is never a dull moment nor is it always a smooth sailing for any organization or players for that matter.
During the fall of 2009 Florida Diamond Pros (FDP) catcher Andrew Valencia verbally committed to the University of South Florida (USF) and was on his way to entering his senior year at Gulliver Academy as the starting catcher for his third year in a row but he was already committed to a Division I program.
Playing baseball for college is every players dream but playing Division I, baseball is greater dream and Andrew was on his way. Andrew has always had the tools to play Division I and that was confirmed by Perfect Game during his sophomore year when he was rated a 9 out of 10, stated FDP Head of Baseball Operations, Harold Vaca
Andrew had a great senior year posting a .462 BA – 6 HR & 21 RBI’s and being named to the First team All-Dade for Gulliver Academy. It was all looking great for Andrew he had accomplished some big things during his senior year and he was ready to take on the second phase of his young career -- Division I College Baseball.
That all came to a halting stop when he was notified by the USF that due to some internal changes and baseball staff turnovers that the direction the staff was taking was seeking JUCO players. “It was a huge blow to us and Andrew,” stated Mr. Valencia.
One might ask how does this happen? Unfortunately, based on the coaches’ assurance and contrary to proper protocol, Andrew never signed a letter of intent – a simple formality, that gave USF the leeway not to have to honor the verbal commitment. This was a tough lesson to learn and an error, which we always advise our players not to commit—verbal commitments are just verbal.
“We were upset that this can happen to any high school player but more upset that it happened to one of our players,” stated Harold Vaca. However, we wasted no time in dwelling in something that we had no control over and became proactive in something that Florida Diamond Pros can control. Immediately, we reassured Mr. Valencia that we would work very hard on seeking for schools for Andrew - matching his attributes to the schools needs.
Within hours the Florida Diamond Pros were able to contact several schools – five (5) in particular; Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) was among one of those schools. That same day FGCU contacted Andrew, subsequently a meeting was set in Ft. Myers exactly four days after the Florida Diamond Pros got to work. The timing could have not be better as Andrew was helping his Florida Diamond Pros 18U team compete in the Pro Baseball Select Event – which is hosted by Colorado Rockies scout John Cedarburg.
We now are very proud to announce that Andrew Valencia has committed to Florida Gulf Coast University and will be able to live his dream of playing Division I baseball…”it’s a great thing to be able to help one of our own players and rewrite this young mans story” stated FDP President, Eddie Vaca.
Florida Gulf Coast University is very excited about having this young man aboard -- via a telephone conference FGCU made the following comments regarding the signing of Andrew Valencia. “Andrew is a very talented catcher that is good on both sides of the ball, he can catch and throw and will definitely have the opportunity to compete for that every day role as a freshman. He has definitely made our program better and we would like to thank the Florida Diamond Pros Baseball Program for initiating the contact and bringing Andrew’s situation to our attention and making this happen for FGCU” Coach Forrest Martin FGCU
Once again, we would like to congratulate Andrew Valencia and we wish him nothing but the best throughout his collegiate career. We want thank FGCU for affording Andrew the opportunity to keeping his dream of playing Division I baseball alive.

MLB Player Development Program - 2010 FDP Players
June 2, 2010
The Florida Diamond Pros Baseball Program is excited and very proud to announce that we have eight (8) players that have been recognized and selected to participate in the 2010 MLB Player Development Program that is operated by the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau.
Being selected to this event is an honor and a privilege and being recognized is an honor within its self....stated FDP President Eddie Vaca
The MLB Player Development Program was created to further develop the talent of players who are possible MLB Amateur Draftee's. It's a way to identify and follow these young men and a great way to be surrounded by true professionals.
Summer baseball is more than just playing games, being ranked or seeing who wins more games during the summer….for this organization, it's about contacting collegiate recruiters & pro scouts and surrounding the players with professionals. Having relationships with both collegiate recruiters and MLB scouts is very important to us and we couldn't be any happier to start the summer this way...stated Head of Player Development Tom Duffin

Rescheduled For June (Cancelled for Tonight) --FDP NCAA National Clearing House Workshop
May 23, 2010 - 11:33 AM
PLAESE NOTE THAT THIS WORKSHOP IS BEING RESCHEDULED FOR JUNE - CHECK BACK FOR DETAILS.
The Florida Diamond Pros Organization will be holding a workshop for all the 2011 and 2010 players in the organization that have not registered with the NCAA National clearing House. As high school athletes look to play sports at the next level, confusion easily arises regarding the NCAA Clearinghouse.
It is essential though that all prospective athletes understand the process in order to be deemed eligible to participate. Registration with the Clearinghouse is required for those wishing to play at the Division I and II level.
What does being eligible mean? Upon graduation, an athlete that has completed the required core courses, obtained the minimum grade point average, and achieved the necessary standardized tests scores will be declared eligible. Thereby, he will be permitted to participate in DI and DII athletics beginning in his freshman year.
During our workshop we will guide all the parents through the process and register players during the meeting and provide them with their own very user name and password with the NCAA National Clearing House. We will also provide you with an Official NCAA Initial Eligibility Review Packet that was provided to us by the NCAA.
Parents and Players this is a very important part of Collegiate Athletics and the Florida Diamond Pros will be guiding everyone through the process this week before we leave to Ft. Myers.
EVENT NAME: NCAA National Clearing House Work Shop WHO: All 2011 & 2010 Parents but Everyone is Welcome to Attend WHEN: Thursday – May 27th, 2010 TIME: 7:00pm – 9:00pm WHERE: Pace HS – Baseball Club House WHAT TO BRING: Pen & Paper for Notes

The Florida Diamond Pros are proud to announce that its 16U Program has been accepted to participate in the USA Baseball Labor Day Cup. This event is held every year at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in North Carolina. “It’s an honor and a privilege to have our 16U Program participate in this event, they will not only play in front of USA Baseball Personal but will play where the best of USA Baseball Train for the Olympics” stated Tom Duffin – Head of Player Development.
16 teams are chosen for this event (eight 16U and eight 18U) and USA Baseball will award 16 teams the right to participate based on an application approval process. The FDP will take to North Carolina a team of select players that are USA Baseball age eligible for its appropriate age division.
Player selection will be through player application, private workouts and/or player recommendations. We will be accepting applications beginning April 1, 2010 on our main website.
Once again congratulation to the FDP 16U Program for being accepted to the USA Baseball 2010 Labor Day Cup.
Four 2010 Players Invited to White Sox All-Star Showcase
The Florida Diamond Pros would like to congratulate 2010 players, Frank Bradham, Raymond Chirino, Mario Ledesma, & Ozney Guillen for being invited to the 2009 All-Star Showcase organized and sponsored by the Chicago White Sox Organization. There are many players in this state that can be invited and many players in South Florida with enough talent to fill up a few rosters so being invited and participating in this event is not only a privilege but an honor and we’re very proud of these young men. It will be a great experience for them and will provide maximum exposure.
Both Frank Bradham and Mario Ladesma are power pitchers with FB in the high 80’s and touching 90 for Bradham and 93 for Ladesma. These young men have strong arms and without a doubt will pitch at the next level and beyond. Raymond Chirino is a 6’6” LHP with a mid to high 80’s FB and Ozney Guillen is a 6’3” OF/1B with great actions in the outfield and at 1B and capable of hitting for average and power from the left side both Raymond & Ozney also have the ability to play at the next level and beyond.
We are very proud to have not only one player invited but having four players invited out of the players available is an honor for this organization and one that we will cherish for a long time.
Once again congratulation to all these young men and we wish you the best of luck today and in the future.
