Bulldogs Capture 3rd Championship in 2008
June 30, 2008 Last night the Bulldogs and Pirates finally met to complete their Spring CERBO 12U 50-70 Championship Game on Sunday evening at the Woodcliff Lake Old Mill Complex. The game resumed in the top of the 6th with the Pirates batting with 2 outs and a man on first, down 7 to 2 to the Bulldogs. Make no doubt, this Pirates team is a very good hitting team and is well coached. Joey Fisco pitched the final 3 and a third innings, yielding only one hit, striking out 6 with 2 walks and a hit-by-pitch. Strong defense up the middle with Carter Toth at Short and Jonathan Avalone at 2nd supported Joey’s effort, who also had 2 home runs in his 2 at bats and was named the Championship Game’s MVP. Also joining the team is our newest Bulldog, Andrew Trumbetti, who stepped right in to catch Joey and even threw out runner at 2nd on attempted steal with runners on first and third to end the game.

    Hitting Summary:
    Fisco 4 hits (2 HRs)
    Avallone 3 hits (2 doubles)
    Toth 2 hits (triple)
    Thaiss 2 hits (triple)
    Crabbe 1 hit
    Pavone 1 hit
    Smith 1 hit

    Pitching Summary:
    Toth 3 innings (1 hit)
    Thaiss 2.2 innings (1 hit)
    Fisco 3.1 innings (1 hit)

Way to go Bulldogs and thank you parents for your support.

The accumulated 2008 record stands at 26 wins and 4 losses with 3 Championships.

Bulldogs Charge to Championship of Memorial Day Bergen County Charity Classic
May 26, 2008 The Team captured the 12U 50-70 Championship of the BCCC Memorial Day Tournament, defeating the Pro-Swing Pride, out of Westchester, NY by a score of 11 to 4. The team won all 5 of its games, and all players contributed to the effort.

Bulldogs 17 Rockland, NY Blue Thunder 0 (No-hitter)
Bulldogs 10 Pearl River, NY Pirates 0 (1-hitter)
Bulldogs 13 Clarkstown, NY Stars 8
Bulldogs 12 Fairfield, NJ Pirates 2
    Bulldogs 11 Pro-Swing Pride (Westchester, NY) 4

On Saturday night at Jackal Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University, two players represented the Bulldogs in the Home Run Derby, Carter Toth and Matt Thaiss. Carter captured the home run crown and Matt came in third for the 12U division.

Bulldogs hit as a team, .479 on 68 hits, including 9 homers, 4 triples, and 9 doubles. The team's pitching held the opponents to a total of 17 hits for a .193 batting average. Pitching was shared by 8 players, with the heaviest load carried by Noah Rosenberg (3 wins, 8 innings, 11 Ks), Matt Thaiss (1 win, 5.2 innings, 7 Ks), Carter Toth (1 win, 5 innings, 5 Ks) and Justin Marko (4 innings, 7 Ks). Joe Crabbe, Tyler Pavone, Blake Geller and Jonathan Avallone, each contributed 1 inning of work.

Defense also was strong, with Matt Thaiss and Justin Marko throwing out potential base stealers and 2 strong assists from centerfield by Joey Fisco on attempted steals (2-8-5 and 2-8-2). In addition Carter Toth, while playing 1st base, made a nice throw across the field to 3rd to complete a 6-3-5 double play. Joe Crabbe showed his terrific range in commanding the shortsop position and was spot on with his throws to first regardles whether moving to his right or to his left.

Base running standout Justin Marko, legged out a home run on a hard hit ground ball to left field. He also charged all the way to second base on a dropped 3rd strike. Better not blink when he's running the bases, because you'll miss the play (For you Bulldog veterans, this kid may be even faster than Evan 'Roadrunner' Stern). While not the fleetest of foot, Tyler Pavone ran the purpose pickle between first and second to allow Joe Crabbe to score what ended up as the winning run in the first playoff game, and he still ended up safe at second. Our other speed marvel, Vinny Spoleti was absolutely flying as he charged around the bases to leg out a triple. I almost had a heart attack myself after seeing him standing on 3rd. And of course, Joe Fisco, Carter Toth, Matt Thaiss and Jonathan Avallone showed their running prowess and placed constant pressure on our opponents to make plays.

Greg Smith exhibited great hustle thoughout the tournament and batted a lofty .636 (3rd highest average for the team during the tourney) and picked up several critical RBIs in key situations.

    Individual Hitting Statistics:

Carter Toth 11 hits (HR, 2 triples, double, 7 singles, 10 runs, 8 RBIs)
    Matt Thaiss 9 hits (4 HRs, 1 triple, 4 singles, 11 runs, 5 RBIs)
Vinny Spoleti 9 hits (triple, 2 doubles, 6 singles, 5 runs, 6 RBIs)
Noah Rosenberg 7 hits (7 singles, 7 runs, 6 RBIs)
Greg Smith 7 hits (7 singles, 5 runs, 3 RBIs)
    Tyler Pavone 6 hits (2 doubles, 4 singles, 3 runs, 5 RBIs)
Justin Marko 6 hits (3 HRs, double, 2 singles, 8 runs, 9 RBIs)
Joe Crabbe 4 hits (double, 3 singles, 3 runs, 3 RBIs)
Joe Fisco 3 hits (HR, 2 singles, 4 runs, 3 RBIs)
Jonathan Avallone 3 hits (double, 2 singles, 5 runs, 4 RBIs)
Blake Geller 3 hits (double, 2 singles, 2 runs, 1 RBI)

Finally, many thanks to the tourney organizers and many volunteers and host sites. All went smoothly and the playing conditions could not be better. Special thanks to Steve Silverman and Phil Mazzo! We can't wait to sign up for next years event. And of course, we will never forget the very deserving charities that we played a small part in supporting during the weekend.

See you on Saturday May 31st in Demarest for final CERBO regular season game vs the Central Jersey Panthers. First pitch is at 4PM and players should arrive by 3PM. Many of us will be at Demarest HS to watch the Bosco Ramapo County semifinal at 1PM prior to our game.

    Go Bulldogs!!!!

Bulldogs Sweep Double Header vs NJ Red Raiders
May 18, 2008 Bulldogs won 2 CERBO League games on Saturday May 17th vs the NJ Red Raiders by scores of 13 to 0 and 16 to 5. In the 2 games, the Bulldogs amassed 31 hits, including 10 homeruns by Joey Fisco (4), Carter Toth (2), Noah Rosenberg (2), Johnny Avallone (1) and Tyler Pavone (1). Bulldog pitchers let up only 6 hits in the 2 games. Justin Marko started the first game, striking out 6, giving up a single to the lead off hitter, who was erased on the 3rd out after a dropped 3rd strike 2-3-2 double play (Cieri to Pavone to Cieri). Cieri closed the final inning and even picked off a player at first. In the second game Vinnie Spoleti started, pitching 2 strong innings, followed by an inning by Greg Smith, an inning by Johnny Avallone and the final 2 shut-out innings by Tyler Pavone.

Defensive highlights had Joey Fisco, playing second base charging a slow roller to his right - bare handed - throw - across - the - body to first. Another Fisco fielding gem from second, had him snaring a line drive, leaping to his right for the 3rd out with the bases loaded. A very nice play saw young Jack Avallone run down a ball to the fence in left center, turning and thowing a strike to Carter at short, who threw a one bounce strike to Tyler who had the plate blocked and tagged the runner, saving a run. The very next batter got up with a man on second, who was stuck out and the runner attempted a steal, but was gunned down at 3rd by Pavone and nice tag by Spoleti.

    Hitting:
    Joey Fisco 8 for 8 (4 HRs, 9 RBIs, 6 runs)
    Carter Toth 4 for 5 (2 HRs, 1 double, 4 RBIs, 4 runs)
