Liberty Mutual's Responsible Sports™ program
Sports are about so much more than winning. And sustaining youth sports programs takes more than just your valuable time and effort. That’s why Liberty Mutual created the Responsible Sports Community Grants. The program helps provide precious financial resources – $2,500 grants – in recognition of local dedication to responsibility in communities across the country.

Participants simply view the self-paced online course and take a brief quiz. The more people who participate, the better your chances. Use the money for equipment, uniforms, travel, practice field time – whatever your team needs to succeed! But don't delay: This grant period ends on May 31st, 2009!

Scholastic Awards, Scholarships & Honorable Mentions
1:18.0 Scholastic Award Eligibility
A.) Players/Parents shall be responsible for turning in copies of the year-end report card. Failure to do so will result in players not being considered for the scholastic award program. Awards shall be given based on students that maintain a GPA of 93 or better.

B.) Students who achieve Honor Roll status (maintaining a GPA of 86 or better) for the school year shall receive honorable mention.

Beachwood/Pine Beach Girls Softball League awards one player from each team a gift card award for the most improved grades. To be eligible, parents/players must give a copy of their year end report card to their coaches or Mary Burke by their last game. Failure to do so will result in the player not being considered.

Most Improved is defined by the player with the highest lift in their scholastic grades during the current scholastic year. Beachwood/Pine Beach Girls Softball League is committed to reward our participants not only for their performance and participation on the field, but also for their higher learning accomplishments as well.

Scholarships

One player from the highest division (O13) shall be awarded a scholarship from the league. To be eligible for consideration, players must have a GPA of 96 or better while participating in extracurricular activities demonstrating high levels of sportsmanship and leadership skills.

Safety Rules & Code of Ethics
To ensure the well being of all players, listed below are some of the key safety rules and ethics that must be adhered to by all players:

Jewelry – Players are not allowed to wear any jewelry during practice or games (including jewelry intended to be permanent). Please make sure to have your child remove earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. before they leave home. Be aware that officials and supervisors on duty have the authority to disallow any player from participating when they feel it necessary for the safety of the player, her team or opponents. The league is not responsible for theft or loss of property.
NOTE: Medical Bracelets/Medical Medals – Any player required to wear a medical bracelet or medical medal will be permitted to do so, however, they must be taped to the body with medical data visible.

Food – Eating of food, snacks or gum is not allowed during practice or games. However, players are strongly advised to bring a beverage to each practice and game to keep them properly hydrated.

Poor Conduct – Players that willfully intimidate or harm another player will be under immediate review for dismissal from the league by the Board. This is necessary to give our girls an environment that is free from bullies and fear of getting intentionally harmed.

Equipment – Players are permitted and encouraged to bring their own equipment, however, that equipment must meet the standards of the ASA (2004 issue or newer). Helmets must be worn when batting and must have a ASA face mask attached. Cleats are not allowed to have metal spikes and bats must be Softball (not baseball) and be proper size for the player. If you have questions regarding your child’s equipment, please speak to your coaches. Be sure to mark your child’s equipment with their name.

Be Alert – It is important players be alert and pay attention during practice and games. Not doing so leaves our girls with the potential to be harmed by a stray ball. Also, being aware of what is going on during practice and games helps to strengthen the team as a whole and creates trust amongst their teammates.

*** Parents are NOT ALLOWED in the dugout or inside the fenced area ***

If you have questions or concerns, be sure to speak to your coaches.

Team Assignments Reminder
To All Parents,

Effective in the 2005 season, no players may switch teams or divisions after team assignments have been made. If you feel your daughter should be playing at a different level, or have any questions regarding the team/division assignments please speak to either Tina Clark or Duane DeSalvatore prior to team assignments. As a reminder, returning players who do not change divisions will remain on the same team they played on last year when possible, although the coach may change. New players and returning players that are moving to a new division based on age requirements will be placed into the lottery and assigned to a team based on lottery drawings which will take place at the March board meeting.
