It has been announced that a decision will be made by January 31, 2010 regarding the future home of the Bayside Vipers.
After what most thought would be a happy homecoming for the Vipers in 2009 as they were given permission to once again use the Ted Whereatt Field located on the campus of UW-Superior they were given notice after just four games and hundreds of dollars later that was spent on insurance required by UW-Superior the Vipers were told the field would be closed for the remainder of the year due to field maintenance. The Vipers will most likely not persue the UW-Superior Field in 2010 as UWS may not be able to commit for a complete summer to let the Vipers play home games there.
The other facility in Superior is the Babe Ruth Field. Due to the extreme cost to use this field per game the Vipers for sure will not be playing there. It has been quoted that it is cheaper to rent out Dultuh, MN's historic Wade Stadium then it is to use Superior's Babe Ruth Field.
The Vipers are not the only amature team from Superior to feel the need to move out of town as the Superior Lakers crossed the Bong Bridge and re-located to Hermantown, MN for the 2009 season.
Below is a list of possible towns the Vipers are considering their re-location to:
Maple, WI (Upper 13 League)
Solon Springs, WI (Upper 13 League, or Independent League)
Superior, WI (Upper 13 League)
Cloquet, MN (Arrowhead League)
Dultuh, MN (Arrowhead League)
Esko, MN (Arrowhead League)
Hermantown, MN (Arrowhead League)
Two Harbors, MN (Arrowhead League)
