The
Fall season is upon us and the information below should answer most
questions about getting underway. Please contact the Commissioner of
your division for specific questions. Contact information is available
on the web site.
REGISTRATION
Online registration is done by going to www.ScottsdaleCalRipken.com. In the upper right-hand corner you will find the links for Cal Ripken (ages 4-12) and Babe Ruth (13-16.) Applications are currently being accepted until our evaluation date on August 29th.
If you are already on a team, we still need you to register
individually on the web site. Your coach will submit the roster. If you
wish to be considered for a team with friends or a specific coach,
please use the returning team field to inform us. Players registering after the evaluation date will have to be randomly assigned to a team, if there is space available.
BABE RUTH PLAYERS
Player aged 13 and up are eligible for one of the Babe Ruth divisions. These players will be contacted separately.
PLAYER EVALUATIONS
Evaluations will be on Saturday, August 29th at the Grayhawk School fields. The Schedule is as follows:
Rookie AA (5-6 coach pitch)and TBall (4-5) players will be assigned teams - not evaluations are done.
Please
arrive at least 15 min. prior to check in and receive a number. Please
be prepared with glove, cleats, bat, helmet. Players ill be sent out in
groups of five (5) to field outfield and infield balls, throw to a base
and take some swings at the plate. Depending on the age group and
position, they may pitch off the mound or catchers may be asked to
receive and throw to second base. Players are also evaluated for
willingness to learn and enthusiasm for the game. Players wishing to be
evaluated for a division higher than their age group must enter
evaluations for that group. If they are un-drafted then they must
re-enter evaluations at the appropriate group to be drafted. 'Playing
up' is rarely accommodated.
DRAFT
Unattached
players will be evaluated by coaches and SCR personal to be placed on
to teams. Draft order will be chosen at random, run in order, last draw
picking two, then run in reverse order (example 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2
...) Players not attending the evaluations will be placed unseen.
Teams
that have less than 12 players will wait until the rest of the teams
reach roster number then enter the draft. For example; if your team has
six (6) players, you will be allowed to draft in the sixth round.
COACHES' MEETING
All
coaches are required to attend the coaches meeting or send a
representative. The meeting will be immediately following the draft of
your division. Rules and requirements as well as practice and game
times will be discussed.
COMPLETE TEAMS
You
must attend the coaches meeting following the evaluation time for your
division on Saturday August 29th. If you believe you have a complete
team, but there are players unregistered, your roster may be filled
with registered players you did not choose. All players must be
registered.
EQUIPMENT
Any
team wanting equipment should visit the equipment trailer. All teams
will receive two (2) dozen division-appropriate baseballs to be used
for practice and games. Catcher's equipment (helmet. chest protector
and glove) will be available to all divisions except TBall. We do not
provide bats or helmets, there is a limited quantity of used helmets
available to players at no charge. Throw-down bases and Tees are given
to TBall divisions.
UNIFORMS
Uniforms
(hat, jersey) will be provided and will be distributed prior to the
first game. Choice of team is limited to what is on hand and choice
will be determined by returning teams, and reverse order of draft draw.
If your team wishes to provide your own, a refund of $250 per team is
provided.
SCHEDULE
Schedules
will be completed and distributed as soon as divisional composition is
determined and fields have been assigned by the City of Scottsdale. If
there are specific dates that your team is unavailable, they must be
submitted before the schedule is released.
Since Halloween is on a Saturday, afternoon games will be omitted from
the schedule. School breaks and religious holidays are not specifically
omitted due the diversity of our participant's schedules and the
limited game times available.
Players'
and families' priorities and commitments are fully respected. We expect
that there will be a certain number games due to religious, family and
school commitments that a player will not be able to attend. We ask
that you give your coach adequate notice for those days.
CLINICS
We are currently in the process of creating some coach/team clinics for our teams, more information will be forthcoming.
We
are looking forward to another great season of baseball. Our primary
form of communication will be via email, so please make sure to inform
us if your address changes.
Thanks;
From the Board of
