The SportsGold/tenaris/Sling Choker MFG. Sault Midget "AA" Wildcats competed in Traverse City over the weekend and came home with 2 wins and 1 loss.
Game one saw the Wildcats lose 1-0 to the Traverse City North satrs "AAA" U-19 female travelling team in game one. It was an exciting game right until the final buzzer as the Wildcats had their goalie pulled with an extra attacker for the last minute of play in the Traverse City end having several great opportunities to bury the puck but the Northstar goalie would not allow the Sault squad to find the twine.
Game 2 the Wildcats would regroup and take the second game of the series 3-1. Jasmine Roy would lead the way jumping on a big rebound and getting an early goal just 3 minutes into the game. Four minutes later Mackenzie Gibson had a nice tip in goal and that would give the Cats a two goal lead with helpers going to Kelsey Burton and Jasmine Roy. The Northstars would cut the lead in half with less than 2 minutes left in the second period but 46 seconds later Karly Meincke would find the back of the cage to put the Wildcats up 3-1 with assists going to Michelle Fabbro and Jasmine Roy with her third point of the game.
Game 3 would turn out to be the rubber game to see who would win the 3 game series in the Northstars home ice. The Wildcats showed up at the rink Sunday morning focussed and ready to play. The referee's would let these 2 teams bump and grind in all zones of the rink. Although their opponent was known for their aggressive style, the Wildcats would not take this game lightly with play going both ways and shots being pretty even at both ends of the rink. With the face off in the Wildcat zone, Jasmine Roy would push the puck through the legs of her opponent on the face off dot and power her way up the left side and drive around the Northstar defenceman on her off wing and snipe a nice shot past the Traverse City Netminder in the last minute of play in the second period. The 3rd period would be intense as the Wildcat players would be on their feet on the bench to start the period banging their sticks with encouragement. The Northstars would find themselves in the same position as the Wildcats in game one having to pull their goalie and trying to press for a goal to tie the game with the extra attacker but they would be denied the equalizer. Amanda Alexander was in net for all 3 games and she would earn her second win and a shutout and the Wildcats would win the first series against the Northstars 2 games to one.
The team had a solid weekend and competed very well. The Wildcats now have record of 11 wins/ 5 losses and one O/T-shootout loss earning them one Gold/ one Silver and winning the first part of a home at home series vs the TC Northstars
Next action for the SportsGold/tenaris/Sling Choker MFG. Sault Midget "AA" Wildcats will be December 10th - 13th in the Thunder Bay Showcase Tournament and the second series between the Wildcats and the Traverse City Northstars January 2nd and 3rd here in the Sault.
