    Smitties continue to add for 2010
    November 5, 2009 The Silversmiths have received commitments from three more players for the summer of 2010.

    Matt Elko, a 5'9" 180 lbs sophomore catcher out of Temple University, has agreed to play in Sherrill. Elko was a 3 time all conference performer in high school.

    James Bardenett, a 6'0" 185 lbs freshman pitcher/firstbaseman, and Mike Weekly, a 5'10" 175 lbs freshman infielder, both from the College at Brockport have agreed to play for the Silversmiths next summer as well.

    The Silversmiths are excited about these additions for 2010.


    Smitties pick up pair from SUNY New Paltz
    October 27, 2009 The Silversmiths are pleased to announce the additions of two pitchers from SUNY New Paltz.

    John Molloy is a freshman left hander that according to New Paltz head coach Matt Giffiths has 4 quality pitches and figures to be a big part of New Paltz's pitching staff in 2010.

    Chris Chismar is a hard throwing freshman right hander that Coach Griffiths has said will also be looked too to be a big part of the New Paltz staff this spring.

    The Silversmiths are excited about these fine additions and are continuing to build for 2010.


    University of Maryland Eastern Shore sending two to Sherrill
    October 26, 2009 The Silversmiths have received commitments from John DesChamps and Donnie Haines from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

    DesChamps is a 6'2" 175 lbs, sophomore pitcher who led the UMES staff in innings pitched last year as a freshman and looks to be a big part of their staff once again this spring.

    Haines is a 6'0" 195 lbs, freshman pitcher/outfielder who will be competing for time both on the mound and in the outfield as a middle of the order type hitter.

    The Silversmiths are pleased to announce these commitments and are continuing to build for 2010.



    Andresen to wear Smitties Green again in 2010
    October 23, 2009 Oneonta State Sophomore pitcher Corey Andresen has agreed to play a second summer in Sherrill during 2010.

    The 6'3" lefthander led the Silversmiths in 2009 with 7 starts, posting 2 wins and a 3.86 ERA in 39.2 innings.

    The Silversmiths are excited to add Corey to an already strong core of returning players for 2010.


    Delello returning for second summer in Sherrill
    October 22, 2009 Rensselaer Polytechnic Sophomore Outfielder Markus Delello will be returning for a second summer in a Silversmith uniform.

    The, 5'10" 170 pound, Delello helped patrolled the spacious left field of Noyes Park last summer and will do so once again in 2010.

    The Silversmiths are excited to bring Markus back and are continuing to build for 2010.


    Silversmiths pick up Mounties middle infielder
    October 12, 2009 Lance Ratchford, a middle infielder at NCAA Division II Mansfield University, has agreed to play for the Silversmiths in 2010.

    The 5'10" 170 pound Ratchford is expected to be starting up the middle for the Mounties in 2010. Known for his slick glove and strong arm, Lance played for the Oriskany Blazers during the summer of 2009 hitting .316 with 7 doubles.


    'Smitties receive commitment from Mansfield University thirdbaseman
    October 5, 2009 The Silversmiths are pleased to announce they have received a commitment from Matt Miller a third baseman from Mansfield University.

    Miller, a 5'11" 190 pound redshirt freshman, will man the hot corner for the Silversmiths in 2010. He is known for his strong arm and quality glove and will be a fine addition to the 'Smitties.


    Sherrill standout Jeremy Roden to play at home in 2010
    September 30, 2009 Fredonia State Freshman Middle Infielder Jeremy Roden has agreed to play for the Silversmiths during the summer of 2010.

    Roden, a Silver City native, is a 2009 graduate of Vernon Verona Sherrill Central High School. The 6' 175 pound middle infielder was a Tri-Valley League All-Star while at VVS and also starred for the Sherrill Post 230 Legion baseball team. Jeremy was also a standout basketball player at VVS playing for NYS Hall of Fame Coach Al Knapp.

    The Silversmiths are excited about the addition of this local standout and are continuing to build for 2010.


    Smitties to welcome five back for 2010
    September 21, 2009 The Sherrill Silversmiths are pleased to welcome back five players from the 2009 team for 2010.

    Outfielder Paul Conte (Clarkson University), Pitcher/Infielder Dennis Duffy (American International College), Pitcher Chris Pallas (Utica College), Pitcher Marc Plante (Cortland State), and Outfielder/Infielder Mike Sherlock have all verbally commited to play for the Silversmiths again in 2010.

    Conte hit .275 for the Silversmiths last summer with 8 doubles and 15 runs scored.

    Duffy an ECBL All-Star in 2009 hit .265 and had a 4.56 ERA in 41 innings pitched.

    Pallas had a 4.11 ERA in 35 innings pitched in 2009.

    Plante led the Silversmiths with 3 wins and threw 30 innings.

    Sherlock hit .265 and played an excellent centerfield for the 'Smiths in 2009.

    The Silversmiths are excited to see these players back in green and white in 2010.


    Silversmiths Building Roster for 2010
    August 22, 2009 The 2010 version of the Silversmiths is begining to be assembled. All players or coaches who are interested in becoming a part to the Silversmiths for 2010 please fill out the questionaire in the upper right corner on the main page, or send an email to sherrillsilversmiths@hotmail.com.

    Volunteers and Sponsors Needed for 2010
    August 7, 2009 In building for the 2010 season the Silversmiths are now begining to actively look for Volunteers and Team and Player Sponsors for next summer.

    Volunteers are needed for the 2010 season to assist with the concessions stand, public adress system, and team travel.

    Player sponsors are needed to help players with housing and employment for the summer.

    Team sponsors are needed to assist with finances of the team.

    Silversmiths wrap up first season 18-17-1
    July 27, 2009 The 'Smiths wrapped up their inaugural season by taking 2 of 3 games from the Vermont Eagles this past weekend to finish at 18-17-1 overall. The record is even more impressive considering a 1-7 start to the season.

    The season has many highlights including Little League Night, a 6 game winning streak, winning the 10th Annual Albany Athletics Baseball Tournament, and 5 'Smith players earning ECBL All-Star Honors.

    The Silversmith lineup proved to be potent hitting .299 as a team with a .395 OBP. Pat O'Brien, Josh Fyffe, Derek Stupski, and Sam Politan all hit over .300, with O'Brien hitting a league best .409. Stupski also paced the ECBL with 32 RBI.

    On the mound the 'Smiths proved to a be a very tough staff posting a team ERA of 4.71. Mike Nich, Austin Straub, Joe Pallone, and Corey Andresen all registered ERA of under 4.00. Straub paced the team with 42 INN and 35 Ks. Marc Plante led the team with 3 wins.

    The Silversmiths would also like to send out special thanks to the City of Sherrill, Bob Comis, Barry VanDreason, Janice Winterton, Megan Winterton, Mike Winterton, Gil Grimm, Justin Grimm, Kym Lang, Mary Rebeck, Mark Sherlock, and anyone else who made this season possible.

    The Silversmiths once again would like to thank anyone who helped make the season happen and look forward to being back during the summer of 2010.
