Practices for 12/8 BACK ON
December 8, 2009
The rink has reinstated our practices for this evening as they expect the problem to be resolved by late afternoon.
Sorry for the confusion.
Practice Schedule
December 3, 2009
The practice schedule has been posted through March 2010 when the rink closes. We will schedule practices at Cushing Academy after that date.
Learn to Hockey (a/k/a InHouse) will have practices added in the month of February, and those will be posted as they become available.
Unless otherwise noted, practices will be held at the Winchendon School ice rink on Ash St. in Winchendon.
As is customary, in the event of inclement weather and cancellations, coaches or team moms will be notified and asked to contact their players, and the website will be updated.
The second 6 wk session of Learn to Skate will begin on December 5th and conclude on January 11th. Volunteers are still needed to help with the success of this program; if interested, please contact a Board member.
Although it doesn't happen often, this schedule is subject to change as WYH sometimes gets bumped for Winchendon School or other high school and college games/practices.
Fundraiser Update
December 2, 2009
The skate-a-thon will be postponed until January, and forms will be distributed within the next couple of weeks.
Cherrydale fundraiser is scheduled to arrive by early next week, and orders will be brought to practice for distribution to players.
Cookie dough orders will arrive before Christmas, and as soon as a date is secured, we will let you know.
Youth hockey night will be held at McDonald's on Rte. 12 on Dec. 10th from 5-8 PM. A portion of the proceeds from sales during that time period will be donated by McDonald's to WYH.

Registering with USA Hockey
USA Hockey is requiring each player and coach (asst and head coach) to register online prior to the beginning of the season. In the past, WYH has always paid the registration fees and taken care of this for our players and coaches. However, it is now mandatory by USA Hockey that the players and coaches register themselves. The cost of registration is $35 for players residing in MA, $31 for players residing in NH and $30 for coaches and is a very simple process.
Registration process:
1. Go to USA Hockey and click on the "register, online" button.
2. Choose member type (i.e. Ice Player or Coach).
3. You must be 18 years of age to process a registration...check the box that acknowledges that you (the parent) are 18 or older.
4. Select the correct season - 2009-10.
5. Follow the prompts...fill in all data correctly.
6. Process payment - Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express (credit or debit card). A Visa gift card will also work.
7. You may print your confirmation page at this time. It will also be emailed to you immediately after the registration is completed.
After you have completed the registration process, kindly email me the confirmation number at Beth Cobiski so I can enter the confirmation number next to your player's name on the team roster. Please be advised that I need this confirmation before August 15th.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you,
Beth Cobiski, Secretary

About WYH
Winchendon Youth Hockey is a non-profit organization serving Winchendon and its neighboring communities, including southern New Hampshire. There are approximately 100 players between the ages of 4 and 18 currently participating in our program. WYH Mites, Squirts, Pee Wees, and Bantams participate in the Dual State Hockey League. The Dual State program offers 30 regular season games followed by playoffs. With as many as 60 teams playing at each of the age levels, this league is very competitive, and allows for a team to move around within their level and find a good fit and competitive play. After an initial parity round consisting of 10 games, the teams are then evaluated and placed in a division of teams with comparable records to begin the regular season and the first 10 games. After those first games, if a team is determined to not be a good fit in the division where they were initially placed, either as a result of consistent and overwhelming wins or losses, a team can then be moved to a different division, still within their age level, for the next 10 games. This allows for more competitive hockey games and promotes stronger development of all players.
While Dual State hockey games are currently not being played in Winchendon, most games are approximately an hour’s drive, and practices are held here in town at the brand-new Winchendon School ice rink.
The WYH Midget season runs from September through Thanksgiving with approximately 10-14 games during that timeframe.
WYH also offers a six-week Learn to Skate session which teaches beginning skating techniques. Minimal equipment (skates and helmet) is required.
The WYH InHouse program runs from October - February and is for those who desire to learn the game of hockey. While it is beneficial for the players to already know how to skate, it is not essential. Full protective equipment, as well as a hockey stick, is required.
