The Penn Hills Jr. Wrestling Association welcomes you and your child to the 2018-2019 season. It is our hope that your child will have an exciting and rewarding experience and also have fun. Wrestling is an individual sport where every child has the opportunity to compete one-on-one with other children of equal age and weight. Your child will receive basic wrestling instruction as he/she develops strength, coordination, self-confidence and the spirit of competition while also having fun and meeting new friends.

The Penn Hills Jr. Wrestling Association is a member of the Keystone Wrestling League an organization of 28+ teams throughout Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Indiana counties. There are six (6) scheduled Keystone meets during the season, held at various locations on the weekends. At the meets, wrestlers are paired according to age, weight and experience levels. Your child will wrestle 2 matches at each meet. There is no additional charge to participate in the Keystone League meets.

We will provide your child with a uniform. These uniforms (known as singlets) are worn at the Keystone League meets and open wrestling tournaments.  There will be a $50 deposit required on all singlets.  The deposit will be refunded to you at the end of the season as long as you return the singlet to us in the condition in which it was given to you.  You will be responsible for purchasing wrestling shoes and headgear (headgear is mandatory at all Keystone matches). Wrestling shoes are NOT to be worn outside.  Comfortable gym shorts or sweatpants and tee shirts can be worn at practice. The team uniform MUST be returned at the end of the season.

Practice will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Penn Hills High School Field House located above the Penn Hills School District Maintenance Building and across from the Fralic Center. The first day of practice will be in early November; date coming soon. Practices will be conducted weekly on Monday through Friday. Your child MUST attend at least two practices a week to participate in the Keystone Match at the end of the week. IF THERE IS NO SCHOOL, THERE WILL BE NO PRACTICE. This applies to school holidays or inclement weather. If there are any changes in the schedule they will be updated on our website: www.leaguelineup.com/pennhillsjw. We encourage you to remain on site during practice. If you cannot stay, please come into the building when picking your child up. This will ensure that:

·         Your child is properly dressed before going outside and

·         You receive any handouts or notices of schedule changes.

At the end of the season, the Keystone League will conduct its annual League Tournament. Every wrestler MUST attend four of the six scheduled Keystone meets in order to compete in the tournament. This is an excellent way to wrap up the season with an opportunity to win trophies. Also, during the season there will be opportunities for your child to participate in optional Open/Novice Tournaments to gain additional wrestling experience.
