Thursday Splits
Agent X split Thursday night. Won the first game with relative ease, then went to sleep for the late one. I'm not even recapping these games; it's simple enough - there's a new Public Enemy #1, and we're going to settle this business on July 12th on diamond #11. I'm out for blood and I'm ready to kill. Mark your calendars...these boys need to be taught a lesson, and whether it's me by myself or the whole Agent X family, we're going to settle this once and for all, the X way.
2.0 = 2 Wins
Agent X 2.0 of the Mens C-minor league at Liberty took on Balls Deep and Coach Lounge Tuesday night, beating both teams handily en route to a sweep for the night. This was 2.0's first sweep of the season since sweeping Jim Kelly & The Bills opening week (yes, I totally meant to rub that in...).
Taking on Balls Deep in the first game, 2.0 scored 2 runs in nearly every inning, minus the 3rd inning when they scored 9 runs. Balls Deep kept fighting back though as they scored 2 or more runs for 5 consecutive innings. It would not be enough, though, as Agent X 2.0 won by a final of 17-13.
The second game wasn't even a contest as 2.0 murdered Coach Lounge. 2.0 put up two innings of 9 runs, thus ending the game early via mercy with a 19-4 final.
The night was lead by Eric "Big EZ" Allen, who up until this point, I never even knew he had a name other than Big EZ! EZ was perfect on the night, going 4/4 with 3 walks, a double, and 3 singles. EZ, or someone representing EZ, also scored 6 runs on the night! EZ's perfect night leapfrogs him over Lucas Lowden for the team lead in BA with a healthy.636. His 6 walks are also a 2.0 team high.
Poker chips for a lineup - who knew?! You guys take this mid-week stuff waaay too serious! Let's go get 'em Thurdsday - BLACK OUT!
Sour Strawberries
Agent X, well a 'modified' Agent X played in StrawberryFest over the weekend, losing both of their games and exiting the tournament early. Agent X opened with Syndicate for the second time this year, and was mercied 13-1 in 5 innings. Considering our first matchup was 25-7, at least it's something to build on. The second game was against Omerta, a team we surely should have rocked. X ended up losing 17-13.
Hitting, forever our downfall. We've only scored 10+ runs once this season, a win against MushKings. Our pitching can't get any support - hard to stay in the zone when you're fighting from behind all of the time. We need to, as a team, figure out how to rememdy this situation!
Couple things of note - guys that typically kill during league ball, steady .550/.600 hitters, are sub-.400 for tournaments. Nine of our players are sub-.400. It works in reverse, as well - I batted Kitchen at the bottom yesterday because he's been struggling during the week, then he comes out and shines on Saturday. There's like no rhyme or reason to it. How can you gauge something like that...
The other thing, too, that guys don't realize is that it's real easy to say "let's play a 5-man" when you're not the one putting it together. Yesterday, we literally had 2.5 'true' infielders - Diva and Stix, and Luda who has been dabbling in the IF. Straight-up, we didn't have the personnel, nor ANY practice at a 5-man. You can't just dump into it on-the-fly - there has to be organization to who's covering what, when, to what side of the bag, and why...and if all five players on that IF aren't privvy to the plan, it could lead to catastrophic plays throughout the innings. Hence...
...this is why it's crucial to start getting regular attendance out of our players. I have yet to field the same team each week. For instance, if we would've had EZ yesterday - he's 'that guy' that drives a single when no one else is. Higgy is invaluable as a defender, and I can't even get him on the field. Imagine Diva, Stix and Higgy together on the IF...wow, right? It's a pipedream, though.
I'm proud of what we have here, and we're taking our lumps. Keep it in-perspective - we're a young, raw team, and there's nowhere to go but up. Like Merk said, we're "paying our dues. Next we start losing close games, then we start winning close games...then we're off and running." Wiley ole' veteran, I tell ya!
