Practice Schedule for NOV/DEC/JAN!! We're still looking for 3-4 players if you are interested!
The team is looking great! We're still looking for 3-4 7/8th grade players if anyone is interested or would like to bring a friend to try it out. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY! COME ON OUT AND GIVE IT A TRY!

I've been talking to folks this weekend, and I think we're going to have only a Monday practice this coming week. Many of our families are leaving/preparing for the holidays, so let's look at this schedule for the next sessions:

Monday November 23rd 4:30-6pm AVMS(It's a little later, but we can slide over onto the lighted fields now that ayso is done)

Tuesday December 1st 4:30-6pm AVMS(I'm leaving with Emily for Texas soccer on the morning of the third)

    December 8th and 10th 4:30-6pm AVMS

December 15th and 17th 4:30-6pm La Paz Intermediate School 25151 Pradera Dr., Mission Viejo, on the lower fields (I have high
school tryouts at La Paz staring at 6pm these days and need to be there early)

December 22nd and 29th 4:30-6pm AVMS (if you are in town, please try to make these practices. Let me know)

    January 5th and 7th 4:30-6pm AVMS

    January 12th and 14th 4:30-6pm AVMS

January 16th Anticipated date of our first games! I'll keep you posted once I have the schedule!

The Attack Starts Wednesday, November 18th!!!
    November 16, 2009 Hi folks,

This is the email I sent out to currently listed/interested players. Please email me at menacheland@hotmail.com if you need any of the forms and we're looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

    _________________________________________________________________________

IT IS FINAL COMMITMENT TIME. :) PLEASE BRING THE ATTACHED FORM, PROOF OF US LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP, AND PAYMENT CHECK MADE OUT TO ALISO LACROSSE TO PRACTICE ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18TH, 2009. (This Wednesday)

We will be having a 6,7,8th grade team this season and playing a modified checking game. This allows us to develop as players in a better environment and gives the girls a chance to focus on the passing/movement/defensive part of the game and not focus on hitting the ball out of the cross. I teach this way anyway, and this allows us to have all three levels together for multiple seasons.
Unfortunately, our 4th and 5th grade team did not materialize this season. There are potential teams at St. Mary's and at La Paz for those age groups, and they are welcome to come to our practices and be a part of our training for free, but we can't field a team this season for them..:(

As for our 6/7/8 team, it looks like our lines will be painted by this Wednesday at our Aliso Viejo Middle School practice fields! Our goals/nets are already on location and now it's up to us to get working and preparing for the upcoming season. We are on the back-center section of the school near the basketball courts.

    Meeting/Practice Info:

I'd like to meet at AVMS on our back field this Wednesday and Friday from 4-5pm in order to get the girls started, to meet with the parents, and start the registration process. In order to get our uniforms ordered and in quickly, we'll need to have the registration fees in asap. I'm working hard at keeping the costs down and I'm looking to have the following fees in place for this season:

    1. US lax insurance/registration: $25.00 You'll need to go to this site and register asap and record your US lax number. It is $25 for the year, an must be good through the end of March (if you are already a member). Please register on-line and bring a copy of your printout with you to the practice on Wed.

    https://secure.uslacrosse.org/default.cfm?fuse_action=NewMem

    2. Team fees: $175.00 These will cover uniforms, a t-shirt, field use and referee fees, goals, balls, training gear, and miscellaneous fees during the season from the practices in Nov/Dec to the season from January to March. Any tournaments or travel to and from those tournaments will have to be the responsibility of the individual team members. We will discuss any of these additional activities as a group prior to making the commitment, but the majority decision will be taken and each player will be responsible for their share of the tournament fee (if a replacement cannot be found).

    3. I'm in desperate need of a team manager/mom/dad to help handle the administrative side of this now that we are up and running so that I may concentrate on the coaching. I'll be happy to help and provide resources and contacts, but the season and the hs season are fast approaching and we'll need more than just the time I have to make this happen in the best possible way. Please call or email me asap if you are interested and I'll get you started.

    4. I have sample uniforms and sizes with me for Wed practice. The girls will be trying on the tops and skirts so that we can determine their size and number, so please try to make it to the practice for sizing.

    5. I will be scheduling practices on W/F for the remainder of November., and then we will be meeting on T/F during Dec. Games will begin in January and will probably be on Friday evenings/Saturdays based on past experience. Having our own field will give us some opportunities to change/adjust our schedules if we have any game conflicts from soccer etc.

I'm looking forward to the start! See you Wednesday!

    Coach Dave

Welcome to the new website of the Aliso Attack Lacrosse Team! We have just received our field permit for the upcoming season and are in the process of expanding the program to give girls who attend school in the Aliso Viejo area to learn to play the best sport around!!! Please fill out the Need More Info form so that Coach Elkins can contact you with more information as it becomes available!

THE FORM IS ONLY FOR INFORMATION/CONTACT PURPOSES ONLY AND WILL ENSURE THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE THE LASTEST UPDATES AVAILABLE ON THE TEAM ROSTER, FREE INTRODUCTORY CLINICS/LESSONS, AND OTHER ACTIVITIES.

The girl's season will begin practices in Aliso Viejo in December, and the playing schedule will run from January through March for the Spring season. The costs are still being determined, but the overall cost of lacrosse for girls is relatively inexpensive and requires only a girl's lacrosse stick, girl's goggles, soccer-type cleats, and a mouthpiece. There will be a small team fee which will help cover the cost of a uniform and a few miscellaneous fees, but our goal is to provide a top-quality, positive, recreational experience for young ladies in the Aliso area.

Coach Elkins is helping to coordinate the development and growth of girl's lacrosse in Aliso Viejo. He is currently the head varsity girl's lacrosse coach at Aliso Niguel High School. For more information on Coach Elkins and helpful links to the game, rules, equipment, and skills needed for girl's lacrosse, please go to the high school website at:

We are looking for parent help and have the resources to train and develop parent coaches in a short amount of time. Lacrosse is a relatively new sport to the West Coast and many, many parents have joined in the fun in support of their daughters! If you have an interest in helping to coach and/or supervise your daughter's team, please use the form and indicate your interest in the comments section. Our growth and development and the opportunities we are able to provide for our daughters will be based on parents who are willing to help create a positive and caring environment in which our daughters can learn to be good sports, good players, and good citizens, and we welcome and NEED your support!

    Thanks for your interest!

    Coach Dave Elkins

A SHORT, INTRODUCTORY VIDEO TO THE GAME OF LACROSSE: (and, no, women don't hit each other with sticks the way the guys do...at least not on purpose..:))

How can I learn more about lacrosse???
September 19, 2009 How do I cradle? I have the gear, but I want to get better. How can I practice on my own? Good questions! Take a look at this video. These six skills are MANDATORY for Varsity players at Aliso Niguel HS and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any girls who would like to quickly develop as lacrosse players. Grab your stick and your ball, watch the various videos on this site, and practice the moves you see to get comfortable with your stick. Once you master these basics, practice them on the run and while playing catch with a friend or against a wall (Wall Ball). Thanks very much to Coach Christa and Bounce Entertainment for this cut from her excellent Stickies I and II videos. If you would like more information about where to buy your own set of videos with much more detailed stickwork and training ideas, please contact Coach Elkins by email.

What does a womens' game look like? Check this out!

Did you know the US Womens'Team won the World Cup Gold in Prague this year? Here's a great video of the fun and friendship you can find in womens' lacrosse!

There are numerous sites on the internet, but I've been able to compile several great links and documents to help you get a feel for how easy it is to start playing girls lacrosse. Take a look at the Aliso Niguel HS Lady Wolverines site at:

    Lady Wolverines site

There are several links on the site and tons of information on gear, how to hold a stick, how to "cradle", rules of the game etc. to help get you excited about trying lacrosse this season! Here are just a few of the links to help you...
