12 U Boys Baseball Tribute
As many of you know our 12U team played for the second year in a row in the Ripken Mid Atlantic Regional Championship game on July 28th. Unfortunately, they were on the wrong side of a 4-3 score, losing to an outstanding team from Bear, DE. Our ARA team of Eric Timko, Connor Smith, Drew Butera, Ethan O’Donnell, Taylor Schaible, Xander Lotis, Danny Carr, Ryan Sheridan, Mike Dadazio, Ben Christian, Tyler Marlow and Tyler Owen has achieved tremendous success, particularly over the last two seasons winning over 70 baseball games against local, state wide and mid-atlantic competition. On behalf of the ARA Board and the ARA Community, these boys, their coaches and families should be commended not only for their tremendous success on the field but the manner it was achieved. Very simply put, these are very fine young men, from tremendous families who also happen to comprise an outstanding baseball team – perhaps the best in ARA history.
As an organization we could not be more proud to have them represent us on and off the field. They have been guided by the very steady hands of Dave Carr and Mike Christian and energized, motivated and at times captivated (or held captive) by the loquacious and passionate Dave Butera. The fact that these boys and their families stayed together and remained committed to ARA at both the travel and recreational levels for all five years of their ARA competitive careers is representative of what can be so right about community youth sports. In an era of so many options, this happens less and less. Although it will be years before they appreciate it, these twelve boys have created friendships and solidified bonds that will last for years and created memories that will not fade for decades.
As the sting of this loss begins to subside – we hope the boys (and perhaps their very proud parents) will be reminded – of a very simple quote from the master of pretty much everything you need to know about life, Dr. Seuss.... “Don’t cry because its over, smile because it happened.”
Not only did it happen, it happened really, really well! Congrats boys on a great run and fabulous ARA careers! Wear your blue proudly for many years to come!!
