Caliber Cup Wraps Up
February 19, 2012 —
The second half of the Caliber Cup wrapped up earlier today in Killarney, with the following results:
A-Side Final
The game was a close one between the Wheat Kings and Pembina Valley Hawks. The game ended 4-2 for the Hawks, after a late empty net goal.
B-Side Final
Both teams found their offensive flair in this game. The end result was Notre Dame Hounds 9 and the Southwest Cougars 6.

The Caliber Cup at Half Way Point

The first two games have been completed in Killarney at the Caliber Cup. Game 1 saw the Pembina Valley Hawks defeat the Southwest Cougars 3-0. In the second game, it took a shootout but Brandon defeated the Notre Dame Hounds 3-2.
As a result of these outcomes, the second half of the tournament this afternoon shakes out as follows:
B Final - Southwest Cougars vs Notre Dame Hounds

Over the years our team has stayed many, many nights at the Best Western on Pembina and Gilles Landry and his team always take great care of us.
Without question, Linda Armstrong is the Best Western Team member that has always gone above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to look after us. Over the years, Linda has become part of the Wheat King family when we are in Winnipeg.
You gotta admit, she looks pretty amazing wearing the Wheat King Jersey!

Team Meal Logistics for the Weekend

While some of the details will need to follow a bit closer to the time, please be aware that the coaches have asked for several mandatory pre-game and post-game meals to be set up for the players. We will also try to book seats for the parents at the same locations.
The tentative plan for meals is as follows:

We will be taking a bus, leaving from the Keystone Centre parking lot. The departure time will be confirmed a bit closer to the time.

More Showcase Details Added
Showcase 3 Focus Fitness Schedule
February 6, 2012 —
Some further details have been added for this weekend's showcase tournament (see attached link for details). The boys will have a Focus Fitness session at 1:30 on Saturday at the MTS Iceplex. The purpose of the session is to introduce them to off ice training regimens. Please ensure that everyone has proper gym attire (shorts, t-shirt, running shoes). The attached link also contains information on the tournament pricing for spectators.
Social a Big Success

The Wheat King parents hosted a team fundraising social Friday night at the Legion.
By all accounts the evening was a great success and a whole lot of fun.
Thank you to everyone that pitched in to help and contribute to the success of the evening. Special thanks go out the organizing committee, which consisted of Ken and Teresa Campbell, Bruce and Leslee Verhelst, and Dave and Kim Mills.

Much to the delight of the attendees of the Wheat Kings Social on Friday night, the midnight snack served was none other than A&W Chubby Chicken.
Loyal Wheat King follower and Chubby Chicken advocate, Don Wilson, is pictured below after enjoying a solid portion of the world famous chicken.
Mr. Wilson advised that some of his friends thought it would be funny to pile all of the bones on his plate, but his "friends" would neither confirm nor deny these allegations.
Regardless, the chicken was mighty fine. Thank you Dave & Kim Mills and A&W!

Wheaties Show Support for Injured Monarch

The Wheat Kings had the opportunity tonight to wish Monarchs Captain Noah Layte a speedy recovery. The guys presented him with a card in the first intermission and offered him their support.
Noah is currently on the mend from a serious neck injury that he sustained earlier in the season.
