Bantam AA Wheat Kings Year End Video

The Wheat Kings battled hard in the final but ended up just short, losing 6-4, with an empty net goal, to the Pembina Valley Hawks.

The Wheat Kings brought their own entourage to the Morden Arena. Despite being heavily outnumbered by the hometown opposition fans, the Wheaties Fans were outstanding.

The star of the exhibit in the Morden recreation complex is named Bruce.

Some of the crew wondered if this is a long lost relative of our Wheat king coach Bruce Verhelst, but it was just speculation.

While walking through the hall of fame this weekend while in Morden for Provincials, we snapped this picture of the tribute to Mr. Lyall.

The Wheat Kings had a big effort today and earned themselves a convincing 7-1 victory and a berth in this afternoon's Gold final at 5:00.

The Wheaties will play the host Pembina Valley Hawks, as they defeated Interlake in the other semi final game.

Layne Campbell shows his softer side by wishing the Eastman forward Christmas greetings - at least we think that is what he was saying.....

The bus makes its way back to the hotel after Sunday's semi-final game.

Rumour has it that Bradley Schoonbaert was driving the bus, although the rumours were not substantiated.

While the puck was seen to be shot in the net by Eastman, the goal was disallowed as you can clearly see that the net is off.

At Saturday night's banquet the host committee displayed a jersey from each of the participating teams. A nice touch.

Brandon goaltender Tyson Verhelst received recognition at Saturday night's banquet for being named to the allstar team for this year's Bantam Showcase tournaments.

The Wheat Kings overcame a 3-1 first period deficit and tied Eastman 4-4 this afternoon in Morden.

With the tie, Brandon has earned at least a berth in the quarter finals on Saturday afternoon.

The Wheat Kings opened the Bantam AAA provincials in Morden this morning with a convincing 12-0 victory over the Norman Wolves.

Game 2 for the Wheaties goes at 2:30 against Eastman.

A big Thank You goes out once again to A&W, the major sponsor of the Bantam Wheat Kings.

The Wheat Kings gather around to get some pizza for lunch at the Team Movie Day.

The boys gathered together at the Dobrescu's house on Saturday afternoon to watch the hockey classic "In the Crease".

Thank you to the Dobrescu family for hosting this event.

Some of the parents enjoy the warm weather outside while the boys were inside for movie day.

Due to some logistical issues with our chosen location, we will need to postpone the team pictures this Saturday.

There will be a team movie at 1:00 on Saturday at the Dobrescu's house.

The Wheaties get instructions for the next drill in tonight's practice at the Sportsplex.

The one on one player meetings have been moved to the Sportsplex at 5:30.

Game number 3 of a pre-provincials exhibition series between the Wheat Kings and Southwest Cougars saw Brandon defeat the Cougars 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in Virden.

Bantam AAA Provincials Schedule
The schedule for the the Bantam AAA Provincials from March 16th to 18th has been released. Click the link here or go to the handout section for more details. The calendar has also been updated for the items we know about, including the bus departure time on the 15th.

The games we know about are as follows:

March 16th vs Norman at 9:30 am

March 16th vs Eastman at 2:30 pm

There is also a banquet on March 17th. Doors open at 4:30.

The second half of the Caliber Cup wrapped up earlier today in Killarney, with the following results:

A-Side Final

The game was a close one between the Wheat Kings and Pembina Valley Hawks. The game ended 4-2 for the Hawks, after a late empty net goal.

B-Side Final

Both teams found their offensive flair in this game. The end result was Notre Dame Hounds 9 and the Southwest Cougars 6.

Wheat Kings Marco Campanella and Coltyn Bates found warm up to be a little more interesting when the girls showed up.

The first two games have been completed in Killarney at the Caliber Cup. Game 1 saw the Pembina Valley Hawks defeat the Southwest Cougars 3-0. In the second game, it took a shootout but Brandon defeated the Notre Dame Hounds 3-2.

As a result of these outcomes, the second half of the tournament this afternoon shakes out as follows:

Showcase 3 Focus Fitness Schedule
Some further details have been added for this weekend's showcase tournament (see attached link for details).

The boys will have a Focus Fitness session at 1:30 on Saturday at the MTS Iceplex. The purpose of the session is to introduce them to off ice training regimens. Please ensure that everyone has proper gym attire (shorts, t-shirt, running shoes).

The attached link also contains information on the tournament pricing for spectators.

The Wheat King parents hosted a team fundraising social Friday night at the Legion.

By all accounts the evening was a great success and a whole lot of fun.

Thank you to everyone that pitched in to help and contribute to the success of the evening. Special thanks go out the organizing committee, which consisted of Ken and Teresa Campbell, Bruce and Leslee Verhelst, and Dave and Kim Mills.

Much to the delight of the attendees of the Wheat Kings Social on Friday night, the midnight snack served was none other than A&W Chubby Chicken.

Loyal Wheat King follower and Chubby Chicken advocate, Don Wilson, is pictured below after enjoying a solid portion of the world famous chicken.

Mr. Wilson advised that some of his friends thought it would be funny to pile all of the bones on his plate, but his "friends" would neither confirm nor deny these allegations.

Regardless, the chicken was mighty fine. Thank you Dave & Kim Mills and A&W!

The Wheat King moms - Peggy, Linda, and Jennifer - take a break from working the door to pose for a photo at Friday night's social.

For the second day in a row, nothing was solved by a shootout. When the dust settled, the Wheat Kings and Warriors tied 2-2 earlier today at the Notre Dame arena.

The Wheat Kings and Winnipeg Hawks battled to a 2-2 tie earlier today at the Canada Games Sportsplex.

The Wheat Kings had the opportunity tonight to wish Monarchs Captain Noah Layte a speedy recovery. The guys presented him with a card in the first intermission and offered him their support.

Noah is currently on the mend from a serious neck injury that he sustained earlier in the season.

The Wheat Kings earned themselves a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Monarchs tonight at the Sportsplex.

Tonight's game has been moved back to 7:30 at the Sportsplex.

The Wheat Kings started the game with a 4-0 deficit tonight in Stonewall and could not quite claw their way back, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Interlake Lightning.
