Coaches Raising the Bar

-Written prior to 2005 season

One of the primary goals of the coaching staff is to constantly raise the ceiling of expectations for both individuals and the teams. One key method we use to achieve this is by scheduling games with teams above our classification. This practice forces our players to improve their skills while playing at a higher level of competition. The positive return of this system is usually realized after 2 - 3 years, however, improvement in individual skill is almost immediate.

What does this mean for the team? The biggest impact is felt by the JV squad. The level of technical ability, speed of play and physicality is many times more acute than these young players are accustomed, therefore a learning curve must be expected...some losses will be realized. (It's all part of the process.) Players must understand that losing is a vital component in learning your weaknesses and improving performance.

  • 2005-2006: Since this approach was utilized, focusing on the individual player as well as team chemistry, Coach Houpt & Trawick completed the season resulting in Bay High Schools first District Championship in 18 years.

  • 2006-07: Varsity Records are many times used to gauge the overall health of a program. The Varsity had a benchmark season with the best season in more than a
decade along with these other accomplishments. (17-2-3) The Team also set new school records for:
    • Most consecutive games without a loss (16)

    • Highest Goals For Average (3.1)

    • Lowest Goals Against Average (1.0)

    • First season to remain in the top two in the district 2 years in a row.

  • 2007-08: Varsity team once again makes it's mark in Bay High and Bay County history by winning The District Championship and continuing a roll of three consecutive years in the top 2 positions in the district. A record never before achieved by a boys High School soccer team in Bay County.

  • 2008-09: Varsity team wins District Championship again for the third time out of four seasons. A record never before achieved by a boys High School soccer team in Bay County. (17-8-3) More notable achievements:
    • Won more District games than Mosley, Rutherford, and Arnold combined.

    • 2nd place in Gainesville "Bobcat" Tournament. Beat former 4A State Champion Rockledge, 2-0 & Current 3A State Champion, P.K. Yonge, 1-0.

  • 20010-11: Varsity Team wins District Championship Title for the fourth time in six seasons again setting a record for a Bay County Boys HS teams.

  • Set New School record for Goals Per Game (3.4), Goals Against Avg. (.85)

  • Made Bay County history as the first Boys HS Team to reach Regional Finals.

  • Won Academic Award for all HS Sports teams in Bay County.
