    Outlaws holster Colt .45's
On Sunday April 19th, the BBQ Outlaws woke up for an early 9:30am game against the Colt .45's. The game got started with a walk by Danny Cuccio followed by a single by Chris Dolan. Both Cuccio and Dolan would score to give the Outlaws an early 2-0 lead. Though in the bottom of the 1st, 2 BBQ error's would cut their lead in half. Another strong pitching performance from Shane Mading kept any Colt .45 base runner's from reaching home. Mading did get some help from catcher Kris Hayes on a snap throw to 3rd basemen Eric Sucar and getting the .45's runner out and ending the scoring threat.
Pitching again proved to be the Outlaw's saving grace in the game with BBQ stranding 14 runners on base and only scoring 4 runs on 9 hits compared to the Colt .45's 2 runs on 4 hits.
Eric Swenson, back from a 3 year hiatus, took an inning of work on the mound. Swenson shut down the .45's except for a hits batter. Marty Cabalar came in to close out the 2 innings for the Save. Cabalar only gave up 1 hit over the 7 batters he faced. The one hit was nearly caught by RF Brian Hayes on a diving play. The Shane, Swenson and Cabalar pitching staff makes for one of the best in Outlaws history. A possible addition of David Gilman's brother might soon be coming. Adding S. Gilman to the pitching mix will only add to the depth and strength of the Outlaws.
Next week the Outlaws take on the Middlesex Pirates who seem to be the early season favorite. The Outlaws will need to have shaken the rust off the bats as they enter the 3rd week of the season and should start hitting consistently throughout the lineup.

2009 Season opens Sunday April 5th!!!
This Sunday, April 5th the BBQ Outlaws will retake the field for the first time of their 2009 campaign. This year the Outlaws again changed leagues and moved to the Raritan Valley National Adult Baseball Association (RVNABA for short!) The RVNABA is an all wood bat league and is truely a national league with local city play. The RVNABA is the local chapter of the NABA for this area of the state. Rules and league management look to be run smoother than the prior local leagues the Outlaws have played in the past but time will tell if that is the case. The Outlaws have been practicing for the past few weekends and will open the season against a RVNABA powerful team, South Amboy Pitbulls.
Returing Outlaws are: Eric Sucar, Kyle Sage, Kris Hayes, Seamus Heaney, David Gilman, Danny Cuccio, Shane Mading, Ryan Caruso, Chris Dolan and Rob O'Rourke. Additions to the '09 squad are Brian Hayes (full time this season), Eric Swenson is back after a 3 year hiatus and Marty Calabra who will be making his BBQ debut and adding a much needed arm to the pitching rotation.
