08/09 Finals of the LBBOB N.A. Sports BB Soccer 7's
Under 14: Sat 25/04/08; Drumcree/Milltown 2, 1st Lurgan 0
The Under 14 showpiece final of the LBBOB NA Sports BB Soccer 7’s took place at Mourneview Park on Saturday 25 April 2009 after the Glenavon v Ballymena match. The final saw last year’s winners 1st Lurgan bid to become the first team to retain the trophy against first time finalists, Drumcree/Milltown. Both teams had struggled in the league but had shown improving potential as the knockout stage progressed.
The game started at a frantic pace with both sides seemingly realizing that scoring the first goal would be of utmost importance. Due to the fast pace and end to end play neither side was able to gain any control. Very few openings were created in the first half though one excellent move from Lurgan brought a fine save from the opposing goalkeeper and the rebound was poked narrowly wide.
HT 0-0
The half time break seemed to serve both sides well as they returned to action and began to play more passing controlled football. Milltown/Drumcree, driven on by midfielder Jason Greenaway, started to dominate territorially and took the lead with a fine finish by Kyle Abraham. 1st Lurgan responded positively and gained a succession of corners but could not break the resistance of their opponents. With only 10 minutes remaining Milltown/Drumcree broke clear and Kyle Abraham slotted home his second goal. Lurgan tried to reduce the deficit but could not make the breakthrough and Milltown/Drumcree emerged as worthy winners.
FT 2-0 (Drumcree/Milltown)
Teams:
Drumcree/Milltown Jason Greenaway, Jamie Greenaway, Steven Haugh, Kyle Abraham, Mark Trouton, Peter Trouton, Nathan Brennan, James Trouton, Kyle Stewart, Caleb Haugh
1st Lurgan Matthew Thornbury, Scott Gray, Andrew White, Ashley Lowry, Kyle Robinson, Adam Brown, Jaime Hall, Matthew Laird
Under 18: Sat 02/05/09; Knocknamuckley 4, 7th Portadown 2
The Under 18 showpiece final of the LBBOB NA Sports BB Soccer 7’s took place at Mourneview Park on Saturday 2 May 2009 between traditional derby rivals, 7th Portadown and league stage winners Knocknamuckley. Both teams were bidding to become the first team to lift the prestigious trophy for a second time. Muckley had lifted the trophy when the teams met in the 2007 final, while 7th Portadown had lifted the trophy the previous year.
In the early stages it was 7th Portadown who had most of the play but some great work by the Knocknamuckley defence kept it at 0-0. This seemed to give them a lift and they settled down and took the lead through John Henderson. They soon scored again when Gregg Harrison took advantage of spaces that had opened up in the Portadown defence. On the stroke of half-time Portadown got a goal back when the unfortunate Gregg Harrison scored an own goal from a corner.
HT 2-1 (Knocknamuckley)
The second half started with more pressure from Portadown but good team-work by Muckley kept Portadown out. As the match went on gaps started to appear as Portadown chased the game and it was no surprise when Knocknamuckley extended their lead through Adam McKeown. This was soon followed by a goal from John Henderson again. Portadown pushed forward and got a goal right at the death through Matthew Currie but it was too late and Knocknamuckley deservedly won 4-2.
FT 4-2 (Knocknamuckley)
Teams:
Knocknamuckley Seth Mathers, Andy Calvert, Simon Grey, Gregg Harrison, John Henderson, Stephen Russell, Adam McKeown, Colin Irwin, Stuart Campbell, Graham Cowan
7th Portadown Matthew Currie, Kristin Subherwal, Matthew Gordon, William Kerr, Ryan Best, Adam Wightman, Ethan Rathmore, Mark Conrnett, Michael Wheatley, Ashley Pepper

07/08 Finals of the LBBOB N.A. Sports BB Soccer 7's
Under 14: Sat 19/04/08; Knocknamuckley 1, 1st Lurgan 2
The Under 14 Final was sure to have a new winner from two first time finalists, Knocknamuckley and 1st Lurgan, in what was expected to be a close encounter with Muckley edging the previous league encounter 4-3 and just finishing two places above 1st Lurgan as runners-up in the league stage. Therefore, as expected, the match turned out to be quite an even affair. 1st Lurgan dominated the play in the 1st first half by playing some good football with Jordan Robinson impressing in attack. 1st Lurgan went close to scoring several times but just couldn’t quite pass Muckley’s determined rearguard and goalkeeper as the scores remained goalless at the break.
HT 0-0
Muckley must have received a stern half-time team talk because they came out a much improved team after the break and in terms of their play became the better team in the 2nd half. However, now against the run of play, it was 1st Lurgan who opened the scoring through a fortuitous own goal. To their credit, Muckley kept pressing for an equaliser and in the late stages they thought that they had levelled from a free-kick, which hit the net, but Lurgan BBOB referee Steven Savage disallowed and made them retake on his whistle. This was only the beginning of the late drama as Muckley did soon score a deserved equaliser from a fine low drive by Neil Adamson. The late drama then ended with 1st Lurgan soon restoring Lurgan’s lead when they broke the length of the pitch and Kyle Robinson slotted home a decent low strike to secure a 2-1 victory and the silverware for his team. 1st Lurgan captain Jordan Robinson was chosen as man of the match by referee Savage.
FT 2-1 (1st Lurgan)
Teams:
Knocknamuckley Peter Stewart, Brooke Love, Josh Black, Ian Irwin, Nathan McConnell, John Uprichard, Thomas Chambers, Chris Fallon, Neil Anderson
1st Lurgan Matthew Thornbury, Jamie Hall, Stephen Wasson, Ryan McCann, Kyle Robinson, Jordan Robinson, Matthew McCann, Ross Gardiner, Jordan Waring
Under 18: Sat 19/04/08; Bluestone 2, Tartaraghan 6
The Under 18 Final saw league stage runners-up and first time finalists, Tartaraghan, face last year’s finalists and former winners, Bluestone, who had surprisingly only finished midtable in the league and so were probably less fancied. Regardless of form, the 1st half turned out to be quite a shock as Tartaraghan dominated from start to finish with some great football to race into a surprise 5-0 lead by half-time with the trio of Adam Hylands, Michael Abraham and Robert Proctor all grabbing goals.
HT 5-0 (Tartaraghan)
A tactical reshuffle at half-time by Bluestone saw them rally in the 2nd half. Goalkeeper David Marsden took over between the posts in the 2nd half and he gave his team a sound platform to build on. Indeed, Bluestone began to make it interesting when they pulled two deserved goals back through Paul Beattie and Kyle Topping. However, it turned out to be too late as Tartaraghan added a late goal to clinch a 6-2 triumph and the trophy. Lurgan BBOB referee Paul Heasley was impressed by Tartaraghan’s goalscoring trio of hatrick hero Hylands, double goalscorer Abraham and skipper Proctor, especially in the 1st half.
FT 6-2 (Tartaraghan)
Teams:
Bluestone Paul Beattie, Kyle Topping, Andrew Tenant, Joel Hoey, Timothy Forde, William McLean, Chris Leeman, Steven Hayes, Daniel Rowny, David Marsden
Tartaragan Mark Gough, Michael Abraham, Chris Taylor, Robert Proctor, Adam Hylands, Jonathan Buckley, Wayne Hanna, Matthew Benson, Sam Woods

06/07 Finals of the LBBOB N.A. Sports BB Soccer 7's
Both the Under 14 and Under 18 showpiece finals of the LBBOB NA Sports BB Soccer 7’s took place at Mourneview Park on Saturday 14 April 2007 after the Glenavon v Portadown match.
Under 14: Sat 14/04/07; Final, 1st Bluestone 1, 7th Portadown 3
The Under 14 Final was expected to be an enthralling local derby between three times runners-up Bluestone and their near neighbours, 7th Portadown, the league stage winners. 7th Portadown were also bidding to become the first team to win the competition twice, having won it three years ago. 7th Portadown made a dream start by opening the scoring inside the first couple of minutes with a clinical strike. Playing super football, dictated centrally by Ethan Rathore, 7th Portadown soon doubled their lead with another clinical strike. Midway through the half Bluestone responded when Mark Cowan struck a goal. Soon after Bluestone missed a great chance to level from close range. They were then punished as 7th Portadown’s A Stevenson completed his brace of goals before the break and with R Finlay’s effort this gave 7th Portadown a 3-1 half-time lead.
HT 3-1 (7th Portadown)
More good football was played in a more even 2nd half as both teams went hard for goals, although Rathore’s skills were again prominent for 7th Portadown. Despite their best efforts, neither team was able to score again as the match ended 3-1 to 7th Portadown. Deservedly, Ethan Rathore was chosen as man of the match by LBBOB match referee Philip Cowan and received an award from sponsor Nigel Armstong of NA Sports.
FT 3-1 (7th Portadown)
Teams:
1st Bluestone Andrew Tennent, Daniel Rowney, Kyle Topping, Paul Murphy, Darren McKeever, Chris Leeman, Joel Hoey, Mark Cowan
7th Portadown R Coulter, R Lappin, E Rtahore, A Stevenson, J Richardson, J Corrie, R Finlay, W Robinson
Under 18: Sat 14/04/07; Final, 1st Knocknamuckley 2, 7th Portadown 0
The Under 18 Final was a much anticipated local derby involving first time finalists and league stage runners-up 1st Knocknamuckley, and reigning champions, 7th Portadown, who had finished three places below in the league stage. Like the Under 14 final, 7th Portadown were bidding to become the first team to win the competition twice. However, it was Knocknamuckley who made a dream start by opening the scoring inside the first couple of minutes with a headed goal by Graham Jardine. Given this early platform, Muckley set their stall out by defending resiliently, led by Drew Gardiner at the back and with goalkeeper Seth Mathers making some fine saves behind. No further goals were scored in the half as Muckley held onto a 1-0 lead at the break.
HT 1-0 (1st Knocknamuckley)
The second half was a similar affair. Again, 7th Portadown pressed and played some fine football but Muckley defended superbly with goalkeeper Mathers outstanding throughout as he pulled off some more great saves. Indeed, Matthers made four absolutely top draw saves in the game. Their goalkeeper’s form gave Muckley the confidence needed and they doubled their lead in the second half with Colin Irwin’s strike. Without conceding any goals, Muckley secured a 2-0 victory. Not surprisingly, Seth Mathers was chosen as man of the match by LBBOB match referee Andi Heasley and received an award from sponsor Nigel Armstong of NA Sports.
FT 2-0 (1st Knocknamuckley)
Teams:
1st Knocknamuckley Seth Mathers, Drew Gardiner, Kris Duprey, Graham Jardine, Andrew Calvert, Gregg Harrison, John Henderson, Andrew Irwin, Colin Irwin

05/06 Finals of the LBBOB N.A. Sports BB Soccer 7's
Both the Under 14 and Under 18 showpiece finals of the LBBOB NA Sports BB Soccer 7’s took place at Mourneview Park on Saturday 8 April 2006 after the Glenavon v Larne match.
Under 14: Sat 08/04/06; Final, 1st Bluestone 1, 1st Magheralin 3
The Under 14 Final was expected to be an enthralling Lurgan Batallion derby between former runners-up Bluestone and their near neighbours Magheralin who had finished just two places ahead in the league in third place. As neither team had won it before, there was going to be a new name on the trophy. Bluestone seemed to settle quicker on the bigger stage and it was no surprise that they opened the scoring through S Treanor. Magheralin began to settle with Thomas Greenaway beginning to dictate the play and then levelled through Hugh McShane who took the ball and scored a cracking low drive. Before the break J McKay’s shot put Magheralin 2-1 up.
HT 2-1 (1st Magheralin)
More good football was played in the 2nd half with the match remaining in the balance for much of the half. Again, Greenaway’s skills were prominent and eventually Magheralin extended their lead as McKay’s shot completed an impressive brace of goals and sealed a 3-1 win. Thomas Greenaway was chosen as man of the match by LBBOB match referee Alvin McDowell and received an award from sponsor Nigel Armstong of NA Sports.
FT 3-1 (Magheralin)

Under 18: Sat 08/04/06; Final, 1st Annaghmore 0, 7th Portadown 1
The Under 18 Final was a much anticipated Portadown Battalion derby involving surprisingly first time finalists and perhaps perennial under achievers 7th Portadown, and last year’s runners-up, Annaghmore, who had finished three places ahead in the league in second place. Like the Under 14 finalists, neither of these two teams had won the competition before. Annaghmore set out their stall early by playing quite a tight secure game, and throughout the 1st half 7th Portadown were unable to break them down as the scores remained goalless at the break.
HT 0-0
The second half was a similar tight affair to the first. Although, all the time 7th Portadown tried to play some good football with Chris Jeffers particularly impressing. Eventually, 7th Poratdown broke the deadlock with Alan Ritchie’s shot somehow managing to roll under the goalkeeper into the net. This proved to be the only goal of the game as 7th Portadown secured a 1-0 win. Chris Jeffers was chosen as man of the match by LBBOB match referee Mervyn Wheatley and received an award from sponsor Nigel Armstong of NA Sports.
FT 1-0 (7th Portadown)
Teams:
1st Annaghmore Darryl Willis, Richard Murphy, Dale Compton, Mark Montgomery, Steven Simpson, Aaron Willis, Michael Richardson, Richard Martin
