Tough Road Ahead If Blues Are To Return To Texas
So far this year Brookdale has been focused at the plate and on pace to set many offensive team records. The team has one of the best offensive teams ever to sport the Jersey Blues uniforms.
The Blues realize that what happened yesterday means nothing if they are to reach their goal to return to Tyler, Texas and the Junior College World Series. The Blues defense and pitching are improving with every game and with the season reaching the half way point things are starting to come together for the team with seven freshman in the starting lineup.
The Blues off to a fast start with a record of 19-4 and 8-0 in conference realize that baseball is a game of opportunity and with one pitch a game can change. So far the Blues have been on the better end of that one pitch change and do not want to find out what it is like to be on the other end come tournament time. Three of the four loses have come to Division I and II teams.
Currently the Blues are second in the nation in hitting with a .410 batting average while compiling 24 home runs as a team. Defensively the team has one of the better athletic outfields in the country rotating 4 outfielders that can cover the spacious outfield at Brookdale. In the infield the center piece has been Ivan Rodriquez. Rodriquez a freshman from Newark Eastside has supplied the team with great consistancy thus far and should only get better as the year progresses. On the mound Ryan Casey and Jeff Frost have provided the team with quality innings in big games.
The Blues will travel to Mercer CC on Thursday for a 3:30 start and return home on Friday with a 3:30 against Monroe CC and play a 12:00 DH home Saturday against Delaware Tech a team the Blues split with earlier in the year at Delaware in the teams opener.

Long Ball Carries Blues Past Gloucester
Freshman Danny Nieves hit a 8th inning solo home run to propel Brookdale past Gloucester 4-3 in a Region XIX contest. Nieves who struck out three times prior to the eighth inning heroics drove the ball an estimated 380 feet down the left field line for the game winning home run.
Brookdale who was down 3-0 entering the fith pulled within two runs on a Keith Weinkofsky solo shot. With two out and one on in the seventh Rob Troy came off the bench to pinch hit. Troy sent a fastball over the left centerfield fence to tie the game at three a piece. Jeff Frost who entered the game with two out and runners on second and thrid with two out received the win for the Blues.
With the victory the Blues record is now 19-4 and 8-0 in conference. The loss for Gloucester is their second in conference. With the Blues three home runs on Monday the team total is now at 24 in just 23 games.
Brookdale will host Sussex CC on Tuesday at 3:30.

18-4 Blues Set For Gloucester Showdown
Fresh of a 5 game weekend sweep of Region XIX opponents this past weekend the Jersey Blues are set to host rival Gloucester CC today at 3pm.
The Blues defeated Ocean CC on Friday and swept double headers from Camden CC and Raritan CC. The Blues offense was in high gear scoring 64 runs over the 5 games.
NJCAA Pitcher of the Week Ryan Casey (Manchester HS) will see the hill for the Blues against Gloucester. Pitching arms are limited with the Blues finishing up a 9 conference game schedule in 7 days. Over the past 16 days the Blues have played an amazing 20 games going 17-3. The team is currenly in first place in the region with a 7-0 record and 18-4 overall.
The next home game after Gloucester is Tuesday at 3:30 against Sussex CC.

Casey DIII Pitcher of the Week
Freshman Ryan Casey a pitcher from Manchester HS threw a complete game no hitter while in Florida striking out 11 vs Onondaga CC (NY) For his acomplishment the NJCAA has awarded Casey with Division III Pitcher of the Week Honors.

    Union Falls 12-5
The Jersey Blues started their conference season off with a 12-5 win over Union CC. The Blues jumped out to an early lead in the first with a 4 run first inning. A two RBI double by Keith Weinkofsky and a two run home run by Nick Alberino set the tone.
The Blues are home Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday for conference games. Weekday games this week all start at 3pm and the DH on Saturday will start at 12 noon.

    Blues Return From Southern Trip
The Jersey Blues returned from their trip from Florida going 10-3. Runs were plentiful with the team plating 97 runs over the 13 games. The overall record for the team now is 11-4. With so many games in such a short period of time it tends to test the conditioning of a pitching staff. The Blues pitching was up to the task and gave solid pitching performances when it was needed the most.
The team begins its quest for the Region XIX title starting Monday at home versus Union CC at 3pm. That game will be the first of 8 conference games in 7 days for the team. Brookdale currently ranked 4th in the country will have a chance to improve on their ranking while having played a total of 24 games by the time the next poll comes out on April 2nd.

ARMINIO OFF TO FAST START FOR LYNN U
Former Brookdale standout Joe Arminio is off to a fast start at Lynn University. Arminio who was the Junior College Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 for the Blues and was a Division II All American last year is hitting at a torrid pace. Currently Arminio is batting .440 in 21 games with 37 hits, 8 doubles, 1 triple and 6 home runs with 28 RBI’s. Arminio is one of five current players at Lynn University that played at Brookdale.
The Blues will visit Lynn University next Tuesday to see their Alumni in action.

    Blues Open With Split
On a cold day with a wind chill of 30 degrees the Jersey Blues opened up the 2008 campaign with a split with Del Tech at Georgetown, Delaware. On the day the Jersey Blues had 28 hits and 25 runs.
The first game was won by the Blues 17-9. Ed Gallante opened up the first inning with a three run home run and added another solo shot on his first swing of his next at bat. Keith Weinkofsky added a home run and double in the game.
The second game saw the Blues lose an 11-8 game. Down 3-0 in the 5th inning Keith Weinkofsky tied the game up with a two RBI single. The cold took its effect on the team in the sixth allowing 6 runs on only 2 hits while committing 4 errors in the inning.
The next game before heading to Florida for the Blues will be a Noon DH against Bloomfield College on Sunday at Brookdale CC.

Blues Seek 4th Straight World Series
The 2008 Brookdale Jersey Blues are set to kickoff their season with high expectations. The Blues led by Head Coach Johnny Johnson will be seeking their 4th straight World Series appearance. Currently ranked 3rd and 4th in the country by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and the NJCAA Coaches Association the Blues only return three starters from last year’s team.

This year will be a young but very talented team with pitching depth, team speed and should be able to put up some power numbers that will compare to any of the top teams in Brookdale’s history.

The team kicks off its season March 1st visiting Georgetown, Delaware vs. Del Tech in a 12:00 double header. The Blues will then attempt a March 8th home DH vs. Bloomfield College before heading to Florida on March 13th for a 15 game road trip.

Smyth Named Pre Season All American
Sophomore Captain Ryan Smyth has been named to the Pre Season All American Team. Smyth who transferred last year from Boston College had a solid year for the Jersey Blues helping them to their third straight World Series appearance. Smyth batting .365 with 5 home runs and 26 RBI's in his freshman season. One of only three returning starters for Brookdale he has been named as one of the team captains. Ryan played his high school baseball for Don Bosco Prep where he made All County as a Senior.
