Chargers Mission Statement

Bergen Chargers Philosophy/Mission Statement

Who we Are:

Over the years, as an athlete you will be competing on many different teams, with different players, different coaches, and different philosophies. As current and experienced college-level softball players, we want to introduce all of the aspects of the game that will prepare young athletes for their future softball programs in high school and college. We have recently enlisted with one of the most experienced, intense, one-on-one baseball training centers in America, the Teels baseball/softball training center. Therefore, we have an entire staff of highly trained and professional instructors to support our program.

What we Teach:

Fundamentals are essential in the progress and improvement of any athlete. The basic mechanics of throwing, hitting, and fielding should be taught and learned correctly in order for a player to really excel in the game of softball. We will be reviewing the basics and fundamentals to make sure that each player has been taught correctly. Knowledge of the game is essential for the development of independent critical thinking. These mechanics are what we have learned over and over again and are what both the high school and college level programs look for.

The condition and health of our players is important. Strength and conditioning is another aspect of the game that we will encourage and be working on. Flexibility, strength, and endurance are vital in this sport.

Finally, positive attitude and sportsmanship are crucial in this sport and in any program you participate in. This aspect of softball is often neglected over the years and needs to be emphasized. Positive attitude and sportsmanship builds strength and character for each player and for the team as a whole. It is important for each player to encompass a high level of positive attitude to develop self-confidence, determination and other mental qualities necessary for this game. Sportsmanship is strongly highlighted but often neglected. It is important to respect all aspects of the game including yourself, teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and parents.

These are all significant qualities of the game that we will be teaching and looking for in each player. Hard work, determination and LOTS OF FUN will pay off if each player commits to learning so this team CAN and WILL develop into champions.

Charger History:

In the spring of 2007, the Bergen Chargers 12U team was born. Our rookies developed a self-awareness of their talent and potential as individuals and as a team and began working harder to improve their performance. The Chargers entered into eight tournaments, showing vast improvements each month.

The success of this team inspired the creation of a 14U team. The Chargers held a tryout for both teams and began their fall season. The 12U team focused on developing their fundamentals and working together as a team. The 14U team started and ended the fall season strongly. The Charger’s 14U team compiled many wins against 14U and 17U teams.

Now, the Bergen Chargers have joined forces with Teels to form the “Teels Chargers”. As part of the Teels Chargers programs, these girls are given the advantage of being coached by former college softball players as well as professional instructors to insure the best coaching possible. The development, hard work, and determination paid off for these young ladies. Each player dedicated their time with the Teels Chargers and improved their skills and overall performance. With us, they also developed a positive attitude, self-confidence, determination and other mental qualities necessary for this game. With these skills and hard-working environment, these athletes will be prepared to compete in future softball programs with high schools, elite teams, and college teams.

“This Softball Player is diligent and hard-working. She knows the value of hard work. She understands that you get out of something what you put in. She is competitive and doesn't give up easily. She learns teamwork and spirit. Most of all she learns to respect all, but fear none.”-The Fast-pitch Player

NOTE TO OUR PARENTS!! As dedicated supporters of your athlete, we understand that you encompass a level of competition as well. We ask that you also cooperate with sportsmanship conduct as you are examples for your athletes and also reflect the character of the team. Coaches are always open to any concerns which may be heard and solved privately and professionally. During competition, we ask that you please remain in the stands and away from the dugout/bench area to prevent distractions for the athletes as well as the coaches. This time is meant for your athletes to have fun and show you what they are learning so sit back, enjoy, and support your champions.
