Our clubhouse has recently had major renovations completed to the restrooms and kitchen, along with new drywall. Further improvements are planned for this coming year.

GOT 50/70 ???? WE DO !!! WANT TO LEARN MORE ???

Over the past few seasons, many of you may have heard this familiar phrase and were totally confused by it. Don't feel bad, "50/70" is a often used catch phrase that may leave some people dazed and confused.
So here's the deal, "What's 50/70?" and why is it on the tip of every youth baseball player and parents tongue?
"50/70" is a short catch phrase to decribe the "new" length of youth baseball field dimensions. It describes the length of the pitchers mound (50 feet) to home plate and the length of the base paths (70 feet). Still confused????
Don't worry, we can explain, clarify and ultimately tell you why it is on fire and has kids all over the country talking!
Youth baseball or "Little League" Baseball as we all grew up knowing has always played with a 46 foot pitchers mound (from the mound to the plate) and 60 foot long basepaths. As we all know, as kids have gotten bigger, stronger, faster and most importantly older (remember two years ago they changed the age limit in youth baseball and now some 13 year olds are still playing in little leagues), the old dimensions of "46/60" have become outdated!!!!
Combine that with the fact that Little League baseball has never allowed such things as leads before the ball crosses home plate, and no pitcher needing to hold runners on base or pitch from the stretch, and what you have is a very watered down version of real baseball.
What Cal Ripken, Jr. noticed a few years ago was what we have always known since we were little kids: When you have to make that transition from little field, no leads, no holding runners on, etc. to the big Major League size field at 13 years old, well, many kids got extremely discouraged and quit the game because of such a drastic transition.
So what did Cal do with his Cal Ripken 11-12 year old age division???? He
incorporated "50/70", a new dimension to youth baseball fields, an intermediate length field that would soften the transition to the "Big Field" when these youngsters moved up!!! What a great idea!!! Combine this with the fact that by moving the pitchers mound back 4 feet from 46 feet to 50 feet (see where I'm going with this) and moving the bases from
60 feet apart to 70 feet apart (starting to get the 50/70 feeling?), kids can now become more comfortable hitting, without a pitcher breathing down their necks from 46 feet. Kids can now make more plays because the bases are further apart, and most importantly now kids can take real leads and pitchers can try to pick them off while pitching from the stretch. But most importantly, now our coaches can teach the game the right way, the way kids will have to know it when they become 13 years old. Our kids get a two year head start learning the game the correct way, which leads to better fundamental teaching.
Last season, our Major League Field at Essex Ave. underwent a complete makeover to accomdate 50/70 Major League only games. The kids have not stopped talking about how much fun it was to play "real baseball". Now remember 50/70 is only being played at the Major Division level. That's because we still want our little guys to have fun and experience the smaller field until they grow big enough to tackle the intermediate size field at 11-12 years old. With 50/70 size fields growing in demand, we can honestly say we have one of the nicest, grass infield 50/70 fields in the area and our field is in great demand from neighboring towns wanting to scrimmage Bellmawr teams. Also, our new field has given us the opportunity to host district and state tournaments with great ease.

organization for their forward thinking position on youth baseball and welcome ALL Bellmawr boys and girls to come out and experience the thrill of 50/70 baseball!!!!!! Once you've tried it, you're hooked!

Essex Ave Fields Renamed CHARLES KOEHLER FIELD
Bellmawr Baseball is proud to announce that the major league field located on Essex Ave., have been renamed CHARLES KOEHLER FIELD.
The renaming is in honor of Charles "Charley" Koehler, a longtime member of Bellmawr Baseball who has devoted over 50 years of volunteer service to the organization.
Congratulations Charley and here's to 50 more years of good health!!!
BELLMAWR BASEBALL WINS TRI-TOWN LEAGUE TITLE
June 8, 2009 —
Bellmawr Baseball completed an amazing run on Sunday night when they defeated Collingswood #3 by a score of 10-0 to win the 2009 Tri-Town League 14-15 Year Old Title. This was the first Tri-Town league title for Bellmawr.
Manager Mike Mercantini's squad completed a 20-1 season with the win. The team dominated in the league playoffs with wins over Collingswood #2, Haddon Twp. #1 and Collingswood #3 by a combined 3 game run differential of 49-1 in the playoffs.
Boomer Wickersham completed his 15 year old season by pitching a 2 hit shutout while also driving in 3 runs with a bases clearing triple. In the semi final win over Haddon Twp., Colin Ryder had a perfect 5-5 day with a double and triple.
