Mack Mulling Future
Bandit MVP Alex Mack recently updated the team that he is currently considering his playing options for 2010. Mack had a standout rookie campaign with the Bandits in 2009, hitting .395 en route to a MVP award, Rookie of the Year award and an All-Star selection. Mack was originally signed with the intention of playing outfield for the Bandits, but injuries ultimately led to Alex holding down the shortstop position for the majority of the year. When asked about returning as a Bandit in 2010, Mack responded via text message, “I don’t know what team I am going to play for yet … my agent has been talking with the New York Yankees. But if they can’t come to a deal soon, I might be back with the Bandits next season.” When thinking about Riverview baseball one can only come to the conclusion that by saying “New York Yankees” Alex Mack must mean “Minnetonka Millers”. However, it would be an interesting clubhouse decision made by the Millers to sign Mack after an incident involving half the Miller dugout and Mack happened last year at Veteran’s Field. Perhaps Mack’s all-star game appearance with some of the Minnetonka 9 repaired some of the tense feelings between the pair. Rumors have been swirling that Minnetonka may be looking for another player of Mack’s abilities due to resent weddings and children being born. It will be an interesting story to see unfold in the upcoming months.

2009 Season
I would like to start off by thanking every player on the Bandits for their hard work and dedication to the 2009 season. Without giving the time to commit to our baseball club the year would not have been nearly as successful.
2009 marked the first time in Bandit history that the squad made the state tournament. The season was one filled with a couple of injuries, as Ryan Norman injured his ankle against Edina early in the year, Kyle Olson tore his labrum while playing college ball at St. Olaf and Kevin Zimmerman injured his knee, all three were lost for pretty much the entire season. Kyle Bassamore and George Walker each had surgery during the year, Bassamore on his wrist and Walker on his thumb. Alex Mack came down with a sprained ankle in the state tournament and also was victim to a nasty chemical burn on his back midseason.
New comers Evan Aber, Nick Cobb, Arron Olson, Jake Saufley and Tyler Elverud played key roles in contributing to the season. Arron Olson set many Bandit records on the mound and was missed badly for the state tournament. All the returning players stepped up this year as well. All Star representatives were Jake Huwe, Alex Mack, Arron Olson and Ryan Walker.
To date, the only missing piece to next season’s team will be a tough one to replace. Jason Meyer has taken a job in Duluth and is expected to miss the majority of next season. Meyer has been with the Bandits since 2006 when the team started. Meyer’s bat and team first attitude will be difficult to replace. The Bandits wish Jason and his family the best next year and sincerely hope that this is not the last time Mr. Meyer is seen in a Bandit uniform.
Hopefully all other Bandits on the roster for 2009 decide to come back for 2010 to make another run to the state tournament. Congratulations to all players and thank you to all the fans that attended our games, without you the season does not mean nearly as much.
Off Season Bandit Sightings
On Saturday September 5th, Nick Cobb was spotted at the State Fair doing his best Garth Brooks act by singing karaoke to "Aint Going Down". When asked if he he was nervous, Cobb stated, "Nervous? Are you kidding me? You know, I did pitch in division 2 baseball. Singing in front of 200 strangers just doesn't come close to the times on the mound. All I can say is that I am going to give it my all, and trust me, there will be a shock and awe type feel to my performance tonight." Cobb's family including his current girlfriend were in attendance. As Cobb took the stage and prepared to belt out this timeless classic, those in the audience were surprised to see Cobb wipe down the microphone with a cleansing wipe. Cobb later would say that "There have been a few confirmed H1N1 cases, and I don't want to be next." Mr. Cobb had a few tough acts to follow but he stepped up his game and completely rocked the following verse,
"Ten 'til twelve is wine and dancing
Midnight starts the hard romancing
One o'clock that truck is rocking
Two is coming, there's still no stopping
Break to check the clock at three
They're right on where they want to be
Four o'clock get up and going
Five o'clock that rooster's crowing".
Cobb is pictured above in this random Bandit off season sighting, but Bandits are everywhere and when captured in their natural setting good times are had by all. When asked for an assessment on his performance, Cobb texted, "I felt my tempo was a little behind and some words ran together. There is definitely room for improvement. Overall, it was an okay performance. Not my best." One can only imagine what Nick Cobb has in store for the off season gathering at the Sports Page in Bloomington as Dusty Walker now has stiff competition in the best karaoke singer on the Bandits roster competition. Now that Tyler Elverud has decided to move to Florida to sing back up to Flo Rida, Dusty Walker and Nick Cobb are left to battle it out for the title of best Karaoke man. Scott Davis has remained surprisingly quiet on the subject, attempts to reach Davis were met with a stern "We have no comment at this time" from his publicist. Bandit Nation will have to continue to keep a close eye on the developments as I am sure that we have not yet heard the last of the Karaoke subject. To be continued?
