Rules and Regulations of the Bolivar Hockey League
Regulation Period: You play for three 15-minute periods. The clock should continue to run even if play stops (this is called running time). There is a 5 to 10 minute break between each period.
Overtime Period: Over time is sudden death. If after regulation and there is still a tie, one five minute overtime period will be played.
Shootout: If there is still a tie after the completed sudden death overtime period, a best of three shootout will occur to determine the winner.
Point Standings: If a team wins any game in the regular season they will be awarded two points in the overall league standings. If a team loses in regulation, they will not receive any points toward the standings. However, if a team loses via shootout or overtime they will receive one point toward the league standings.
- Below are penalties of hockey and the descriptions of each.
INTERFERENCE - You may NOT interfere with another player who does not have the puck.
CHARGING - Similar to checking - you can't run or jump or fling yourself into an opponent.
ELBOWING - NO throwing elbows.
SLASHING - NO striking or slashing at an opponent with your stick.
BUTT ENDING - NO jabbing an opponent with the but end of the shaft of your stick.
FIGHTING - ** In the BHL fighting is an automatic 5 minute major and 10 minute game misconduct (or) game ejection based upon officials discretion.
TRIPPING - Knocking your opponent's feet out from under them with your feet, that's called tripping. Knocking your opponent's feet out from under them with your stick is still called tripping. And it's a penalty.
HOLDING - You may NOT interfere with your opponent's progress with your hands.
HOOKING - You may NOT interfere with your opponent's progress with your stick.
HIGH STICKING- making contact with an opposing player when the stick is above the chest cavity is high sticking in the BHL.
CROSS-CHECKING - If you hold your stick with both hands and slam the shaft of it into your opponents, that's cross-checking.
Penalties are based on referee discretion. Majors are 5 minutes, Minors are 2 minutes,Misconducts are 10 minutes.
