The Danicka Fike Fundraiser is sold out!
The Danicka Fike File
Feb.1, 2015 – The day it all started. Danicka's mom Kristen was doing her hair like all mom’s do for their little girl when she noticed a pimple like bump on her head. Several days went by and after consulting her mother and other people close to her, she was convinced Danicka had nothing more than a simple bug bite.
A few weeks went by without any improvement and she again reached out to several friends, family etc. to get their thoughts. She even went so far as to ask her son's barber if it could be an ingrown hair,… their pediatrician if it could be a wart,… and anyone else who could maybe give them answers.
They eventually consulted a dermatologist who ordered a biopsy, which came back inconclusive. With their frustrations mounting as they still had no answers, the mere thought of having a second biopsy on a 2.5 year old was unbearable. But with the growth now as big as a quarter, it was time for surgery. The legion was removed on May, 7 of last year.
Life was finally getting back to normal while they waited on lab results. Baseball and Cub Scouts for AJ, ballet for Danicka, and their new baby girl Audriana were keeping everybody in the Fike family very very busy. Then, the call came in; the pathology report came back... it was cancer.
Life has thrown the Fike’s a devastating curveball unlike anything the game of baseball has ever seen. They have an army of doctors behind them and a travel schedule unlike any other. The family does their best to maintain their normalcy. Danicka goes for treatment programs and therapies weekly at the world renowned Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, (CHOP). She also travels monthly to Texas for experimental treatments and immunotherapies at the University of Texas’ MD Anderson Cancer Center. Ceilings and caps have been put on their insurance, and the financial burdens that come along with her recovery and travel expenses are mounting.
Your help for the family is greatly appreciated. The outpouring of support is amazing, but they need us as much as ever. The co-operative efforts of the Brick Little League and Brick American Baseball League is holding a fundraising event at First Energy Park, the home of the Lakewood BlueClaws on Friday evening 5/27. A “Coaches Clash” baseball game between the two organizations will be played that evening. Please come out to the ballpark that night to cheer on your favorite coach and participate in many of the other fundraising events on the concourse that night. Raffles, gift auctions and many other activities will be happening.
