The Cumberland Area Youth Football League - CAYFL, with teams from Allegany and Garrett Counties in Maryland, and Mineral County in West Virginia. The CAYFL was formed in 1967 to inspire youth, regardless of race, creed, or color to practice the ideals of sportsmanship and physical fitness through the playing of football. The CAYFL is still going strong after 40 years with eight teams participating in the 2009 season.
The CAYFL has two divisions -- Division 1 for older more experienced players and Division 2 for the younger and less experienced players. Both divisions play separate games with playoffs and league championships for each Division at the end of the season.
The Football and Cheerleading programs are competitive in nature. Competition is a major part of the program, however we strive to create a positive experience for the participants. No prior experience is necessary to enroll and all children have an opportunity to compete for a position on the team. Each individuals playing time will be determined by their willingness to work hard in practice and learn the skills necessary to compete.
The Team is divided by age and weight into Division 1 and Division 2. All players must weigh-in at the beginning of the season and meet the maximum weight requirements for their Division and age group. All games are held Saturday or Sunday afternoons with Division 1 playing first. All positions are assigned by the coaches who make evaluations and selections based on player's ability and understanding of the game. Our first concern is the players and we do not want them playing at a level that will endanger their safety
