Don't view the release point too soon. A hitter can only maintain his focus for a short period of time before there is a break in concentration. Most of the time, a broad focus can be held four to five seconds, while a fine focus for two or three seconds. Hitters who keep their broad or fine focus too long may find themselves distracted, and they will lose that sharp picture of the ball.
Batters should focus on the rim of the pitchers hat. As the pitcher brings his hand up and shows the ball, the batter simply moves his eyes to the ball, already focused for the distance. At the same time, (when the pitcher shows you the ball) the batter should shift his weight to his back leg and bring his hands back slightly. (I call this "TRIGGER") This should help prevent the "Late Swing". It has worked for my players every year, and all different ages.
Anticipate the Ball
When playing defense expect EVERY ball to come to you. Before EVERY pitch, think about what'll you do with the ball if it's hit to you. Also, think about what you'll do if the ball is hit to the other 8 players.
