What an incredible week in this year's NABA World Series!
The 45 Titans took #1 seed, going 5-0 in pool play (earning a first round bye). They then took on former champion Seattle A's, and Rex De La Nuez dominated, defeating Seattle 6-1.
The 45s Championship Game featured the Titans vs San Diego Black Sox. The Titans Chris Horrell faced SD Black Sox James Watts. Watts was cruising along until the 9th, when the Titans staged a big comeback. With the score 6-4, the Titans would have the tying runs on 2nd and 3rd. Watts would get out of it to win it for SD.
In the 50s, The Titans scratched and battled, and earned #2 seed, garnering a first round bye. In the second round, the Titans had to face the Colorado Buffaloes, who handed the Titans their only pool loss (albeit on a walk off error). This game would pin the Titans to the wall, but the Titans battled back...AGAIN. Marty Campbell would get a clutch 2 strike hit to tie the game, and with one out and two on, Bobby Pone would hit a grounder up the middle, and there was a slight hesitation, allowing Daniel Gutierrez to break up a possible double play, also causing an errant throw, resulting in a walk off win!
In the 50s Championship Game, The Titans faced the Sacramento Spikes. SP Chris Means held the Spikes down. With the Titans leading 2-1 in the top of the 8th, the Spikes would get a 0-2 leadoff single. RP Rafael Fuentes was then summoned in. Next thing you know, the Spikes would hit their way to a 3-2 lead, with Marty Campbell getting the final outs in the 8th, and held the Spikes scoreless in the 9th. In the bottom of the 9th, the Titans would get a one out single by Albert Ulibarri, who then went to third on a single by Billy Bob Abraham. Up stepped C Collin Wiley. With Ulibarri representing the tying run, Wiley shelled a line drive down the third base line, which was speared by the Spikes third baseman, who fell on the third base bag, ahead of Ulibarri...end of the game! And the Spikes escaped and win the Championship!
Many, many thanks to all of the players, wives, girlfriends and family members that attended the games. It takes the support of all to make these events successful.
The Titans Baseball Association is growing, and improving. As you can see from this past week, we are knocking HARD on the door to winning the coveted Championship Ring!
God Bless you all! And let's start planning for our next tournament, and let's bring the Rings home next year...for SURE!
