The second round of the CCFL playoffs will get underway this Saturday October 25th where the #2 seed Charlotte Colts are hosting the #3 Carolina Renegades at Fran Kids Boys and Girls Club. Team Stampede bounce back with win over Hornets

After taking a loss last week, the Charlotte Colts got back in their winning ways by defeating the Catawba Hornets 17-14 at Cheshire Field in Charlotte, NC tonight. Running back Davon Gardner scored on a 12 yard run. Then in the second half LB Desmond Gray recovered a fumble in the end zone for the second score. Kicker Charles Powell booted a 35 yard field goal to seal the win. The Colts finished second in the regular season and have a first round playoff bye. They will host the second round playoffs on Saturday October 25th.

The Colts seven game winning streak ended today when the Asheville Grizzlies came away with a big win 26-6 in Asheville. The only Colts score came from Davon Gardner with a 47 yard run. The Colts are back home October 11th when they face the Catawba Hornets.
Colts take first place with win

The colts had a huge test Saturday and came out with a win over the Carolina Renegades in High Point, NC. The 8-2 Colts are sitting on the top of the CCFL standings with the win. Quarterback Darius Thomas connected with Raeshaun Stinson on a 31 yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Running back Davon Gardner rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown while Jeremiah Walker also had a rushing touchdown. The game closed out with an interception from defensive end Gene Proctor for 25 yards. The Colts are traveling to Asheville, NC to face the Asheville Grizzlies on Saturday October 4th.
Colts win big in Greer, SC

The Charlotte Colts wins another game on the road over the Upstate Jayhawks 48-18 in Greer, SC. QB Darius Thomas threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns. His touchdown passes were to wide receivers Travis Walker, Al Bryant, Jay Shelton and Rashad Fletcher. Running back Davon Gardner rushed for 117 yards including a 65 yard touchdown run.
Charlotte Colts teaming with NFL Play 60

The Charlotte Colts coaches and players will be helping out along with the Carolina Panthers with the NFL Play 60 Character Camp this Saturday September 20th at the Simmons YMCA. They will serve as camp coaches. The camp will consist of teaching football skills, emphasizing exercise and reinforcing the importance of character in athletics and in life. The Camp will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. If any kids ages 7-13 would like to participate, come to the Simmons YMCA this Saturday. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. This is a free camp.
Colts tamed the Thundering Herd 41-2

The Colts came running, and passing on all cylinders Saturday night when they destroyed the Carolina Thundering Herd 41-6 at the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex in Matthews. Quarterback Darius Thomas was 12-18, 304 yards and two touchdowns and he had a rushing touchdown in the opening drive for 21 yards. He connected with wide receivers Al Bryant for 27 yards and Kelvin Robinson for 38 yards. Running Back Davon Gardner rushed for 74 yards on eight rushes, including a 34 yard touchdown run.
The defense were stingy where they gave up no points. They were led by linebacker Daryl Grier and Chris McNair. Grier had an interception and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. NG Jerobi Gray forced a fumble where the Colts had the short field and capitalize it with a TD pass to Bryant. At the closing of the first half, Antonio Mayes returned a punt for 40 yards for a touchdown. Cornerback Raquan Wooden also had an interception. The Colts will host the defending league champions Catawba Hornets at The Stable on September 13th.

The Charlotte Colts welcomed the new CCFL member East Carolina Rams by defeating them 12-6 at Cheshire Field in Charlotte, NC. QB Darius Thomas threw a five yard touchdown pass to Jay Shelton and running back Davon Gardner scored on a 20 yard run for the Colts. The Colts will take the Labor day weekend off and continue play on September 6th when they host the Carolina Thundering Herd. The Herd beat the Colts 8-6 in the first meeting on July 12th.
Hawks no contest against Colts

The Charlotte Colts went down to Fayetteville and blanked the hosting Carolina Hawks 35-0 at Reid Ross Classical School. DB Brandon Beam sacked the QB in the Hawks end zone to get the safety for a 2-0 lead. Quarterback Darius Thomas, the 2007 North Carolina Prep Player of the Year, was 15 of 20 completions for 322 yards with 4 touchdown passes and a rushing TDs. His first TD pass was to WR Jay Shelton from 5 yards outs. His second was to TE Jon Hankin for 20 yards and his third was to Al Bryant for 50 yards, all in the first half.
The beginning of the second half, Thomas marched the offense down the field in four plays where he finished the one minute and seventeen seconds drive with a one yard TD run. In the fourth quarter he threw another TD pass to Rashad "Cheetah" Fletcher for 28 yards. The defense recorded seven sacks in the game. Linebacker Raphael King led the defense in tackles with eight While LB Daryl Grier recorded seven tackles. Safety Terrell Partlow had an interception and defensive end Ramon Azular had a fumble recovery.
The Colts will be at home next Saturday August 23rd when they host the new CCFL member East Carolina Rams.

At halftime Colts head coach Shawn Wood told the team he didn't want to just make a statement he wanted a whole paragraph. The team did just that by pulling away with a 39-14 win over the visiting Asheville Grizzlies last night. QB Darius Thomas had 5 of 9 passes for over 200 yards and four touchdowns. His first TD came with Kelvin Robinson from 40 yards in the first quarter. His second was a 95 yard strike to RayShawn Stinson. He threw two more in the second half to Rashad "Cheetah" Fletcher for 45 yards and to Kien Windley from 33 yards in the fourth quarter. RB Davon Gardner rushed 13 times for 125 yards and RB Jeremiah Walker rushed for 60 yards on seven carries.
The defense forced three fumbles where one was returned for a touchdown by safety Michael Cunningham. There were also six interceptions from Antonio Mays, Davion Smith, Torrie Conley, Xavier Smith, Daryll Grier and Raphael King where he returned his for a 35 yard touchdown. The Colts (3-2) will be traveling to Fayetteville, NC this Saturday to play the Carolina Hawks (0-3).

This Saturday's game when the Charlotte Colts host the Asheville Grizzlies, both head coaches are leading their teams as a Hall of Famer. Colts head coach Shawn Wood (top picture) was inducted into the American Football News Today Hall of Fame in 2013 and Asheville Grizzlies head coach Phil Lytle (bottom picture) was inducted in 2004.

Colts win opener
The Charlotte Colts came away with a win over the Carolina Renegades 14-7 at the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex in Matthews. QB Darius Thomas fired a 39 yard touchdown pass to Al Bryant for the first score. The extra point was blocked. The Renegades only touchdown came from a fumble in the Colts own end zone to take the lead 7-6. At the end of the half the Renegades attempted a field goal but came short and Terrell Partlow returned the field goal attempt 109 yards for the touchdown. RB Davon Gardner made the two point conversion for a two yard run.
The Colts are hosting the Asheville Grizzlies next Saturday at the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.

Colts dropped a close one in the opener

The Charlotte Colts lost their CCFL opener to the Carolina Thundering Herd 8-6 in Concord, NC. The Colts (1-1, 0-1 CCFL) only score came from running back Davon Gardner when he galloped 40 yards for a third quarter touchdown. The Colts had a chance to win the game late in the fourth quarter but the 40 yard field goal attempted by kicker Charles Powell was blocked.
The Colts will travel to Newton, NC on July 19th to play last year CCFL champions Catawba Hornets, who they lost to in the championship game. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.

The Charlotte Colts and Sportspine have reached an agreement to become the official physical therapy provider for the team during the 2014 season. Their staff will be on the sidelines during the Colts home games assisting with any injuries occur on the field. They will also handle any sports injuries and therapy during the player's recovery. Colts calmed the Havoc 18-14

The Charlotte Colts went to Myrtle Beach and left with a 18-14 win over the Palmetto Havoc from the Gridiron Development Football League (GDFL). The Colts scored on the opening drive with a 25 yard touchdown run from Mark Dixon, one of his two scores. Dixon finished the night with 9 rushes for 103 yards. The Havoc tied the game behind the arm of former Penn State QB Daryll Clark.
The second score came in the 3rd quarter where safety Lamar Boyd picked off Clark's pass in the end zone and returned it 103 yards for a touchdown. The next series LB Raphael King made a couple of big hits to stop the Havoc drive. Then LB Desmond Gray blocked a Havoc punt and returned it to the Havoc 9 yard line. On the very next play, Dixon scored his second touchdown of the night. QB Darius Thomas also had an interception in the game. "I was very pleased with the offensive line tonight. They kept grinding it out." said Colts head coach Shawn Wood. The Colts will be playing in the CCFL Jamboree in Kannapolis on Saturday May 31st.

The 2014 Charlotte Colts are traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC this Saturday to face the Palmetto Havoc from the Gridiron Development Football League (GDFL). The Havoc came off a 26-20 win over the Triangle Nighthawks last week. The game will be played at Ashley Booth Field right behind the Pepper Gedding Rec Department. CCFL releases 2014 schedule
The Central Carolina Football League released the 2014 schedule today. The Colts will be on the road the first two games when they begin play with last year UNFL Champions Carolina Thundering Herd on July 12th and last year CCFL Champions Catawba Hornets on July 19th. Their home opener will be against the Carolina Renegades august 2nd. The rest of the 2014 schedule can be found on the schedule tab.

The Central Carolinas Football League (CCFL) announced today three teams will compete for the CCFL title this season. The 2013 UNFL Mid-Atlantic Champions Carolina Thundering Herd, the Asheville Grizzlies and the 2012 CCFL Champions the Carolina Renegades. They will join the Carolina Hawks, The 2013 CCFL Runner-up and 2014 AFNT AA National Runner-up the Charlotte Colts, and the 2013 CCFL Champions and National Football Event National Runner-up the Catawba Hornets. "We now have two of the oldest minor league football franchises in North Carolina history with the Hornets (35 years) and Grizzlies (41 years)." Said CCFL Commissioner Dan Finkelstein. "It is exciting times to be a part of the CCFL."
Colts lost title game in final seconds

The Charlotte Colts came close to end their 2013-2014 season in high fashion. They came up short to the Miami Knights in the American Football News Today AA National Championship 14-6 in Miami last night. The Colts marched 92 yards in one minute and thirty four seconds with the arm of QB Darius Dobson. With 18 seconds left and no time outs on the Knights three yard line, the Colts went right up the gut of the Knights defense and created a pileup on the goal line. “I saw one side judge signaled touchdown” said head coach Shawn Wood, “Then I saw a discussion on the field with the refs on what they saw and the clock was running out.”
Dobson was the offensive MVP with his performance throwing 12 of 23 for 237 yards including a 73 yard touchdown pass to Dennis Rorie. WR Ray Ray Munford also had 5 catches for 128 yards. The defense play a great game denied the Knights offense in the end zones after several attempts. They got pressure from DLs Ramon Azular and Big Country. The Colts ended the season with a 13-4 record.
Three players taking talents to next level

Three Colts players will be taking their talents to the next level. DL Ramon Azular is currently in Paris France playing for the USA Eagles in the Christmas Bowl December 7th.
RB Otis Moore will take his talents to Serbia in February where he signed with the Mladenovac Forestlanders.

Colts lost in title game

The Charlotte Colts suffered another loss to the Catawba Hornets in the CCFL championship 26-6 Saturday night. The Colts played the Hornets close from the beginning of the game. WR Rashad Fletcher caught a 30 yard touchdown strike to tie the game at 6 at halftime. The Hornet striked back late in the third quarter to give them a 12-6 lead. Then in the fourth quarter when the Colts were inside the 10 yard line, there was a costly fumbled snap where the Hornets took over with six minutes left in the game. The Hornets drove for another score and had an interception retruned for a touchdown when time expired.

The Charlotte Colts (13-2) will have one more shot to take down the Catawba Hornets (13-0) this Saturday night. This time it is for the CCFL championship. The Colts punched their ticket last Saturday when they defeated the Carolina Hawks 16-0 at Hawthorne High School. The Colts only loss are to the Hornet on September 7th 28-12 and October 5th 32-12. Both teams are nationally ranked in the American Football ews Today AA polls where the Hornets are ranked #5 and the Colts #12. The CCFL Championship will be played at Westside Jaycee Park in Newton, NC. The field address is 605 West J Street. Kickoff is at 8:00 p.m.

After forty two days the game everyone in North Carolina waited for will now happen this Saturday. The Charlotte Colts (9-0), ranked #5 in the American Football News AA polls, are hosting the #7 Catawba County Hornets (7-0). The Colts offense is being led by a stable of running backs Otis Moore, Qua’Darrick Robinson and Maurice Johnson as well as the air attack from receivers O’Bryan Potts and Rashad Fletcher.
The defense has recorded seven shutouts led by defensive linemen Ramon Azular, Bryson Dunmeyer and De’Angelo “Stretch” Cureton along with linebackers Raphael King and Lemarris Agurs. Defensive backs Antonio Mayes and Davion Smith have nine interceptions collectively. Colts head coach Shawn Wood knows it will come down to who will break first. “The Hornets are a solid football team, so we have to play our best game.” he said, “We have to eliminate mistakes and take advantage of the opportunities they gives us to win.” The game will be at HawthorneHigh School September 7th. Team Stampede came out blazing and pitched another shutout against the Carolina Heat 20-0 Saturday at Hawthorne High School. The # 5 nationally ranked Colts scored on the initial drive with a 25 yard touchdown pass to Rashad Fletcher. Then in the second quarter RB Kendrick McIlwain joysticked his way 58 yards for the touchdown. The defense held the Heat offense to less than 40 yards total offense including two safeties. The Colts will be off for Labor Day weekend and will prepare for the #7 nationally ranked Catawba Hornets September 7th.

The Colts traveled to Gray Court, SC and continued their winning ways by defeating the Palmetto State Broncos 52-0. RB Otis Moore led the attack by rushing for 67 yards on 6 carries and three touchdowns for 21, 12 and 26. RB Qua' Darrick Robinson went 49 yards down the sidelines for a score and Antonio Mayes who subbed in at QB ended the rushing touchdown parade with a 22 yard score. QB Chase Morris threw for two touchdowns by connecting with O'Bryan Potts for 39 yards and Rashad "Cheetah" Fletcher for 23 yards.
The defense was again stingy forcing four turnovers including an interception from LB Raphael King. D'Angelo Cureton, Antonio Adams, Isaac Wilson and Torrence "Tank" Johnson each recorded multiple sacks in the game. The Colts will return home this Saturday when they face the Carolina Hawks at Hawthorne High School. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.

The Charlotte Colts were recognized in two national ranking polls today. They are ranked #18 in the American Football Power Rankings and #7 in the American Football News Today AA polls. Their next opponent July 27th, Catawba County Hornets, are ranked #7 in the AFPR and #11 in the AFNT polls.
Colts escape the Heat

As the old saying goes, "You play with fire you will get burned". It almost held true when the Colts narrowly escaped the Carolina Heat 14-7 Saturday night in Ramseur, NC. The Colts defense held the Heat offense from scoring with 3 seconds left in the game after two lost fumbles late in the game. The Colts had no trouble scoring early in the game. They put together a balance drive of 65 yards and it was capped off with a eight yard touchdown run from RB Maurice Johnson.
In the Second quarter QB Chase Morris launched a 53 yard misssle to Rashad Fletcher for the score. The defense were making big hits led by LB Raphael King and DE D'Angelo Crueton. The Heat came out in the third quarter and drove 45 yards for a touchdown to close the gap 12-7. At that point the Colts offense were having trouble moving the football. After an interception by the Heat defense which put them on their own three yard line, the Colts defense forced a safety and gave the score 14-7. The Colts offense committed eight turnovers where four were lost fumbles. "We need to do a better job protecting the ball" said Colts head coach Shawn Wood, "We have to get better in practice and correct the small things and continue to do the good things we are doing." The Colts will have a huge test next week when they go to the Hornet's Nest to face the Catawba County Hornets.

WR Rashad Fletcher took a handoff 48 yards for a touchdown and Antonio Mayes, who had QB duties this week, sneaked in from two yards out for the score. RB Otis Moore lead the rushing attack with 85 yards while Kendrick McIlwain rushed for 67. The defense recorded another shutout for the year. DB Michael Cunningham had an interception. The Colts will travel to Ramseur, NC this Saturday to open the CCFL season with the Carolina Heat.

The Colts running game is improving every week where three running backs combined for over 300 yards on the ground in a 22-0 win over the Lake Norman Fear in Mooresville, NC Saturday night. RB Maurice Johnson led the ground attack with 122 yards and a touchdown. RB Davon Gardner rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown and RB Otis Moore rushed for 113 yards. QB Davon Samuels completed 5 out of 11 passed for 72 yards. "I am proud of the offensive line grinding it out. They created holes where it allow our backs to move upfield", said head coach Shawn Wood.
The defense set a franchise record by having six interceptions in one game led by CB Antonio Mays with two interceptions where he returned one back 45 yards for a touchdown. CB Davion Smith had two interceptions, Safety Lamar Boyd had one and LB Chris McNair had one. DE Angelo "Stretch" Cureton had a fumble recovery.

It's the Battle of Interstate 77 when the Charlotte Colts will travel to Coach Joe Popp Stadium in Mooresville, NC to face the Lake Norman Fear in their home opener. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Colts head coach Shawn Wood still had a question unanswered going into Saturday's game against the Palmetto Hurricanes, can the Colts offense run the ball? It did not take long to get an answer. On the first drive the Colts marched their way down the field with several big runs by running backs Otis Moore and Maurice Johnson. Along with Qua'Darrick Robinson, the trio combined over 200 yards on the ground in a 12-8 victory. QB Davon Samuels, after taking a year off from football, completed 8 of 16 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown to TE Osmund Brown. Otis Moore had an eight yard touchdown run.
The Colts defense forced three turnovers which make eight for the season. The defense stopped the Hurricanes offense on the final drive, including a big tackle from safety Dreyan Willis and a pass breakup from safety Hanif Jemerson on a crucial fourth down play. The Colts will travel to Mooresville, NC to face the Lake Norman Fear on June 22nd.

After a week off, the Colts are traveling to Hopkins, SC to face the Palmetto Hurricanes. The game will be played at Garner Ferry Sports Complex, 8620 Garners Ferry Road, Hopkins SC 29209. Kickoff will be at 6:00 p.m.

The wait was over. The Charlotte Colts begin the 2013 season with a 52-25 win over the Greenville Seminoles from the Carolina Elite Football Alliance this past Saturday. QB Darius Thomas (8 for 16, 307yards) made a connection to WR Rashad Stinson for a 38 yard touchdown. Then the defense came up with a big play from DL Jerobi Gray and LB Raphael King when they did a double WWE suplex on the Seminole running back for a loss. DT Bryson Dunmeyer made some big stops on the defense line that smothered the Seminoles running game. Then DB Drayan Willis came up with an interception and returned it close to midfield.
On the next play Thomas had to scramble and found WR Jay Shelton on a 52 yard strike and he raced his way into the end zone. Later Thomas connected with WR Rashad Fletcher on a 35 yard touchdown pass. WR Rashawn Singleton made some great special team plays especially when he came from the far side of the field to make a touchdown saving tackle. Late in the first half, Thomas sneaked into the end zone for one yard. At the close of the first half Thomas connected with TE Osmund Brown with an eleven yard pass. The Colts were in command at halftime 32-0.
The Seminoles made run early with two quick touchdowns to make the score 32-12. after the ensuing kickoff, it did not take long for Thomas to get the offense going again. It only took one play when he hit Fletcher, players nicknamed him Cheetah, on a screen play and he outran the Seminoles defense and coasted 88 yards for a touchdown. Late in the third DE D’Angelo Cureton scooped up a Seminoles fumble and scampered 28 yards for a defensive touchdown. Kicker Jaymes Mann connected two field goals to close out the game. The Colts are traveling to Lexington, SC to face the Palmetto Hurricanes Saturday June 8th.

The Charlotte Colts are getting their first test of the 2013 season when they travel to Greenville, SC to face the Greenville Seminoles. The game will be played at Greenville Tech Northwest Campus June 1st at 6pm.

The Colts came out of the stable running during the scrimmage Saturday when they faced the Lake Norman Fear. The defense took the field, led by defensive coordinator Torrie Walker, and smother the Fear offense with big hits lead by LB Chris McNair, DB Dreyan Willis and DB Michael Cunningham. The defensive front led by defensive linemen Ira Guinn, Mike Morris and Mark Johnson held their ground to stuff the Fear run game. LB Raphael King grabbed an interception on the Colts first defensive series.
Offensive Coordinator Ron Cartier's offense didn't take long to show their presence, in fact it only took three plays, when QB Darius Thomas made a 70 yards strike to WR Jay Shelton for a touchdown. RB Otis Moore had no problems transitioning from the indoor game with the Continental Indoor Football League when he had impressive carries. WR O'Bryan Potts had a 60 yard reception. "I was pleased with the effort they made on the field today." said Colts head coach Shawn Wood, "It showed the hard work these guys been putting in since March." The Colts will be traveling to Greenville, SC on Saturday June 1st when they face the Greenville Seminoles. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
