CHENEY MAT HAWK PHILOSOPHY

This program is designed to assist and prepare young wrestlers to be successful not only on the wrestling mat, but throughout their lives.

  • Wrestling should be fun!

  • Wrestling should be competitive!

  • Improvement comes through losses as well as wins!

Wrestling is a unique sport; it combines speed, flexibility, strength, and most of all brains. It is the only contact sport (in high school) where athletes are evenly paired by weight. It is a difficult sport for the following reason; the athlete has no one else to blame for a loss, and losses are inevitable. To make the
experience positive, it is imperative that you put no additional pressure upon those small shoulders. Stepping out on the mat is pressure enough. Competitiveness will breed itself; if it is more important to the parent than the athlete, it will not be a positive experience. Try to keep this in mind as you guide your child toward the rewarding world of wrestling!.
