    Good-bye Roos

September 5, 2006 The Chicago Roos have completed their 2006 season and with it, we have chosen to disband the team permanently.

The Chicago Roos were formed originally to provide playing opportunities for a group of players the coaches believed deserved more than they were getting at local park district programs. During the life of the Roos, players have worked with special hitting instructors and pitching instructors. They’ve had instruction from a Major League player and a Division I college coach. They’ve traveled to five states and seen the NCAA College World Series. They’ve won games and lost games. They've been written about in magazines and been shown on television. They have always played the game of baseball with honor, integrity and dignity. They’ve faced some of the best competition in the whole country, never backing down. Every player that has ever played for the Chicago Roos has gone on to play for his high school.

The team and its coaches, Jose Munoz, William Feliciano, Frank Hill, Henry Schleichkorn, Don Krasny, Vernon Collins and Terry O’Donnell, have been honored to be associated with the players listed below. Every young man that has played for the Chicago Roos has exhibited competitiveness and class wherever we’ve gone. The team is grateful for all their efforts and the opportunity to work with them on the fields of play. The team also wishes to thank all our sponsors, past and current for their support, without which we couldn’t have accomplished all that we did.

Finally, the Chicago Roos extend a special thanks to all the families for their support. In particular, we thank Isabel (Kuka) O’Donnell. Kuka created the original team uniform design and acted as batgirl and scorekeeper as well as being the Roos biggest fan.
