Churchill Basketball - Class of 2012
Congratulations to the Class of 2012 for a job well done. Your three-year record as varsity players 47-25 is outstanding. You helped Churchill make the regional finals for the first time in 33 years and you won 37 games in the last two seasons! We will miss you but you have changed Churchill basketball and you will long be remembered. The Class of 2012 will be attending the following colleges:

Sam Edens (2012) to Attend McDaniel College

As the third of several Winston Churchill High School boys varsity basketball players to announce their college intentions for the Fall of 2012, Sam Edens, a member of the 2009-12 Churchill varsity teams announced that he plans to attend McDaniel College in Westminster, MD and play basketball next season for the Green Terror under head coach Kevin Curley. Edens, a 6-3 guard/forward, was the leading scorer (15 ppg) on the 2011-12 Churchill Bulldogs varsity that made its first 4A west regional finals appearance in 33 years and won 19 games (19-6). Edens received numerous accolades for his performance including being named to the 2012 Capital Classic Preliminary All-Star game and the 2012 Montgomery County Public School All-Star game. He currently ranks 8th all-time in career scoring leaders at Churchill. McDaniel, a member of the Centennial Conference and NCAA Division III, recently finished with a 9-16 record during the 2011-12 season. Edens is undecided as to the course of studies he will pursue. He will join Kyle Edwards (Emerson), Jake Eskin (Susquehanna), Elijah Gore (Salisbury) and Will Lewis (Denison) as former Bulldog players under fourth-year Churchill coach Matt Miller (61-35) expected to play in the collegiate ranks next Fall.
Kyle Edwards (2012) to Attend Emerson College

As the second of several Winston Churchill High School boys varsity basketball players expected to announce their college intentions for the Fall of 2012, Kyle Edwards, a member of the 2009-12 Churchill varsity teams announced that he plans to attend Emerson College in Boston, MA and play basketball next season for the Lions under head coach Jim O'Brien. Edwards, a 6-5 forward, was a starting forward on the 2011-12 Churchill Bulldogs varsity that made its first 4A west regional finals appearance in 33 years and won 19 games (19-6). Emerson, a current member of the Great Northeast Conference (it will move to the NEWMAC Conference in 2013-14) and NCAA Division III, recently finished with a 7-19 record during the 2011-12 season. Edwards plans to study in the areas of English and Film Studies. He will join Jake Eskin (Susquehanna), Elijah Gore (Salisbury) and Will Lewis (Denison) as former Bulldog players under fourth-year Churchill coach Matt Miller (61-35) expected to play in the collegiate ranks next Fall.

In what is expected to be the first of several current and former Winston Churchill High School boys varsity basketball players to announce their college intentions for the Fall of 2012, Will Lewis, a member of the 2009-11 Churchill teams and a 2011 Montgomery County Public High School All-Star selection, announced that he plans to attend Denison University in Granville, OH and play basketball next season for the Big Red under head coach Bob Ghiloni. Lewis, a 6-2 guard, played this season as a post-graduate student at the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT and averaged 11 points per game for the Pelicans (11-10) in the NEPSAC Class A division with a team-high 47 made three-pointers. Denison, a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and NCAA Division III, recently lost in the 2012 NCAC Conference Championship Game to perennial DIII national power Wooster, 53-51,as part of a 14-14 campaign that saw the Big Red rally late in the season to win eight of their last 11 games. Lewis plans to study in the area of pre-medicine. He is expected to join Jake Eskin (Susquehanna) and Elijah Gore (Salisbury) as former Bulldog players under fourth-year Churchill coach Matt Miller (61-35) in the collegiate ranks.
