Fusion Sweep Cats
February 24, 2012
The Wildcats honored 4 seniors Friday. All 4 have played the league for 4 years. Join me in thanking Jack Doran, Jordan McCleod, Tyler Parker, and Ben Taylor for the 4 years of memories they have given us.
Now on the game.....The Cats needed a tie or a win to avoid the play in game, and with the Fusion players already declaring themselves upper state champs (even though a loss to us would knock them down to second) the team had plenty of motivation to pull the upset
The Fusion would score first at 10:44 and again at 4:44 to take a 2-0 lead.
The Cats would answer on a Ben Taylor goal with the assist from John McCleod at 4:10 in the first period, but we would end the period trailing 2 to 1.
Ryan Rowe would open the second period with a short handed goal with assist from Blake Haggerty and we were tied at 2. Unfortunately, the Fusion would score the next to goals and we would enter the third period trailing 2 to 4.
The Fusion scored to quick goals to lead 6 to 2 with 12 min. left to play.
The Wildcats would get a power play goal at 7:45 from Nick Scicchitano with the assist from Ryan Rowe to cut the lead to 3.
With 6:12 left Evan Rumley scored off a pass from Jack Doran and the Cats now trailed by 2.
Despite several great looks at the net the Cats could not get any closer and gave up a late short handed goal to lose 4 to 7.
My best guess says we will play Wando in the play in game on Friday March 9th.
Third Period Meltdown
February 10, 2012
The Wildcats and Predators faced off Friday night in crucial game for the Cats. A win would move them out of the play in game for the state tournament, a loss would mean a game on Friday night of the tournament.
The Cats would score first on a power play goal from Tyler Parker at 12:45 in the first. Florence would answer at the 9:16 mark to tie he score at 1. With 4:37 left in the first Ryan Rowe scored on a pass from Ben Taylor to give the Wildcats back the lead. It was short lived as Florence scored 75 seconds later to send us to the second period tied at 2.
The Wildcats exploded for 5 goals in the second period!!! John McCleod opened the scoring with an assist from Parker at 12:08. 78 seconds later Rowe would score on an assist from Parker and McCleod and Rowe would go for the hat trick 49 seconds after later with assist from Painter and Parker and the Cats lead 5-2. Florence would sore the next goal to make it 5-3, but the Cats would answer on a power play goal at 7:49 McCleod from Rowe to extend the lead to 6-3. McCleod would get his hat trick at 3:21 in the period with Rowe on the assist and the Cats lead 7-3...
However Florence would score the next 2 goals of the period and we entered the third period with the Cats leading 7-5!!!
Entering the third period, the Cats had played a near perfect game, out shooting Florence 29 to 22 and having NO penalties. Then the tide
turned!!!! The Cats would take 6 penalties in the period, be out shot 10 to 2, loss Parker to an injury and finish the game tied 7 to 7..
The good news was that the Cats did not allow a power play goal with all the penalties... the bad news was we could not create any offense due to killing the penalties.
Rowe scored in the shoot out and Peyton held Florence to 1 goal to send us into a sudden death shoot out!!!
Florence scored on their third shot to steal the victory from the Cats.
Up next The Fusion after a bye week next week.
2 In a Row!!!!!!
February 3, 2012
The Wildcats made it 2 in a row Friday night, beating the Wando Warriors 5-4 in Charleston. This was sweet revenge for the Wildcats, as Wando was the team that knocked the Wildcats out of the playoffs last year!!!
Will Painter scored a short handed goal on an assist from Ryan Rowe at the 3:00 mark in the first period to start the scoring.
Nick Scicchitano scored a power play goal on assists from Jack Doran and Tyler Parker at the 1:17 mark and the first period ended with the Wildcats up 2-0.
6 seconds into the second period Wando scored their own short handed goal to cut the lead in half. Hopefully not a trend of giving up early goals instead of late goals!!!
At 7:36 Johnny McLeod scored on a pass from Evan Rumley to up the score to 3-1. Wando would score a power play goal to cut the lead to 3-2 with 2:48 to play in the second period.
Then, with 19 seconds left in the period....yes that would mean a late goal......for........the Wildcats!!!!!Blake Haggerty scored from Nick Scicchitano and Tyler Parker, and we entered the third ahead 4-2.
In the third period Wando would score early to cut the lead to 1 again.
Nick Scicchitano would answer with 7:59 left to put the Wildcats up 5-3.
Wando would score with 4:25 left in the game to close the gap to 1 yet again, but the Wildcats defense and goalie Peyton McDonald would not be denied the victory!!!!
Shots were 26 for the Wildcats and 22 for Wando.
Up next, Florence.....as the Cats go for 3 in a row!!!!
Wildcats Start a New Streak!!!!!!!
January 27, 2012
The Wildcats defeated Stratford 7-1 Friday night to end their losing streak and hopefully start a late season winning streak.
John McLeod started the scoring at 9:56 in the first on the assist from Ben Taylor and Ryan Rowe and the Cats lead 1-0
WilL Painter would notch his first goal of the year at 2:34 in the first on a power play with the assist from Tyler Parker to up the lead to 2-0.
Thirty seconds later Evan Rumley would score on a nice assist from William Henderson and the period would end with the Cats leading 3-0.
Stratford would score first in the second period to cut the lead to 3-1, and are you ready for this??? Can you guess what happened next???? I will give you a hint.......there was 40 seconds left in the period!!!!!!If you guessed we gave up a late goal you are......... WRONG!!!! We scored the late goal, Parker from, John McLeod and Nick Scicchitano and we entered the third period ahead 4-1.
Ben Taylor scored his first goal of the year on assists from Rumley and Painter, McLeod scored on the assist from Will Painter, and John McLeod would get his second straight hat trick on a power play goal with 1:46 left in the game.
Shots were 33 to 21 in favor of the Cats!!!
Up next is a Wando team missing their best player!!! Can the Cats win back to back games ???
Losing Streak Extends to 6!!!
January 20, 2012
The Wildcats saw their losing streak hit 6 games Friday night with a 10-4 loss to Ft. Dorchester.
The Wildcats were out shot 14 to 5 in the first period, but only trailed by a score of 1-0 as they entered the second period.
Ft Dorcheter would score first in the second period to go up 2-0. The Wildcats cut the lead in half on a goal from John McLeod with an assist from Nick Scicchitano at the 11:52 mark of the second to trail 1-2.
Ft. Dorcheter would score the next 3 goals to take a 5-1 lead. Mcleod would score unassisted at the 6:39 mark to cut the lead to 5-2,and Ryan Rowe scored on an assist from Tyler Parker at the 2:08 mark to make it 3-5 and give the Wildcat fans hope for a thrilling third period come back....
But all of us who have watched all the games this year knew what to expect next.... Any guesses????? If you guessed late goal given up with less than a minute left in the period, then pat yourself on the back, as Ft. Dorchester scored with 33 seconds left to go up 6-3.
McLeod would score again unassisted in the third period to get the hat trick, and The Wildcats would give up 4 more goals to make the final 10-4.
Shots for the game were 21 for the Wildcats and 38 for Fort.
Sophmore goalie Ryan Parker got his first playing time of the year and gave up 1 goal in 5 min. of play.
Up next is Stratford with 1 win in 4 years!!!!! Lord help us if we lose this one :)
What Is Going On????
January 6, 2012
The fans who attended the Wildcats game vs. Greenville South had hopes of a different team and and results for the Wildcats in the new year, but few could guess what they were about to see!!
From the beginning of the game, and no one on site to cut the ice after open skate, which delayed the start of the game 10 mins. to the game ending in a shootout this was one to be remembered.
The game began with Greenville South scoring a minute and a half in the game and again 20 seconds later, to take a 2-0 lead.
The Wildcats would score at the 9:27 mark on a goal from Ryan Rowe with the assist from Ben Taylor to cut the lead to 2-1. The Wildcats scored again 1 minute later on a goal from Tyler Parker with the assist from Ryan Rowe, and the game was tied at 2.
Greenville South would score at the 5:52 mark to take a 3-2 lead and as has been the case all year, the Wildcats gave up a goal in the last minuet of the first period to go into period 2 down 2-4.
Then the fun would begin. Two Greenville coaches were asked to leave the bench for not having their USA hockey certifications up to date. After 10 minuets of discussion they would leave the bench. This appeared to upset the Greenville players as they would take 10 penalties in the second period and have 2 players ejected for fighting!! Later in the period the coaches would be allowed back to the bench when they showed that they had until 1-31-12 to get certified.
Greenville South scored 47 seconds into the 2nd period to extend their lead to 5-2, and The Wildcat faithful could only hope..."can we do it agian?" If you remember, we were down big against this team in Grenville but we came back in the 3rd period to win that one.
Tyler Parker scored his second goal of the game on Ryan Rowes' second assist of the game at the 11:32 in the second to close the period trailing 3-5.
The third period started with John McLeod scoring 50 seconds in on a rare 3 on 3 play, and The Cats trailed by 1.
McLeod scored again at the 12:09 mark on Rowes" third assist and Haggertys first assist and we were now tied and the Wildcat faithful were in a frenzy looking for the the lead!!!
The boys would not let the fans down, as Parker scored his third goal of the game on assist from Rumley and Henderson at the 10:45 mark and The Wildcats had the lead for the first time...
Greenville South scored at the 5:24 mark to tie the game, and despite out shooting Greenville South 19 to 2 in the third period and 35 to 19 for the game, we were headed to our second shootout of the year.
Greenville South would score 2 out of 5 and The Wildcats would miss all 5 in the shootout to leave the Cats with a bitter tasting loss.
Wildcats Make History!!!
December 16, 2011
For those fans that attended the Wildcat game tonight there was a feeling in the air that something special was happening. Though you probably did not know it, you were witness to the first shutout in Wildcat history!!!
The first period started out like many of our games this year with the Wildcats giving up a power play goal with :34 second left in the period, sending the team into the second period trailing 1-0. Hi-lights of the first period were 3 shots on goal for the Wildcats and 3 shots against the The Green Wave.
The second period saw the Wildcats give up 2 more power play goals while not scoring any themselves. Hi-light for the period was the fluke goal that bounced off the glass and back in front of the net for a cheap goal for Summerville.
The Wildcats were able to muster 5 shots on goal in the third period, but again failed to score, and the defense held Summerville scoreless as well for a final score of 3-0 Summerville.
I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!
Hopefully we will hit our stride after the Holiday Season!!!
Wildcats Lose Third Straight
December 10, 2011
The Wildcats lost their third straight game Friday night 5-2 to the Florence Predators.
The Cats scored first at 10:30 in the first period as Blake Haggerty scored his first High School goal with assist from Aaron Scicchitano, his first High School point as well. That was the extent of the highlights on this night as the defense allowed not 1 but 2 wrap around goals and the offense continued to pound the Florence goalie in the mid section and trailed 2-1 despite out shooting Florence 12-8 in the period.
The second period saw another cheap goal in front of the net and 1 solid goal for Florence and nothing for the Cats and we headed to the third period trailing 4-1.
Johnny McCleod scored on an assist from Jack Doran at 5:15 in the third to cut the lead to 4-2, but an empty net goal left the final score 5-2.
Until the Cats decide to get physical and start attacking the puck and knocking people off the puck we may not see another victory anytime soon.
We must start getting to the puck first and defend our net in a physical way. No more coasting to the puck and skating backwards as the other team attacks us!!!! Take the fight to them... It's nothing but a mind set... Get mad and play mad!!!
Greenville North Wins Rematch
December 2, 2011

Greenville North won the rematch of the season opener 5-3 Friday night in Greenville.
The Wildcats continued a bad trend that they have had this year, by giving up a goal with 12 seconds left in the first period. Shots for the period were 4-4.
The Wildcats evened the score on a goal from Evan Rumley and assist from Nick Scicchitano with 10:27 left in the second period, only to give up another goal 25 seconds later to Greenville North and we ended the second period trailing 2-1.
Rumley scored again on an assist from William Henderson with 10:24 left in the game to tie the score at 2-2. Again Greenville North came back and scored with 6:15 left in the game to take a 3-2 lead.
With 4:38 left Johnny McLeod scored on an assist from Tyler Parker to tie the score at 3-3, and the Wildcat fans were thinking shootout again, however the team continued a disturbing trend of letting teams score immediately after they do, and Greenville North scored with 3:06 left in the game to lead 4-3.
Despite pulling the goalie and getting several good attempts to tie the game late, North scored an empty net goal with :18 seconds left in the game for a final score of 5-3.
Shots for the game were even at 20.
The Wildcats are now 2-3 and play Florence at 9:15 Friday night at he Plex!!
Cats Lose Battle of the Dam
November 18, 2011

The Wildcats lost to the Fusion 5-1 Friday night to even their record at 2-2.
The game started in the Cats favor as Jack Doran scored on an assist from Tommy Quattlebaum and William Henderson at 7:08 in the first to give the Wildcats the early lead.
The Fusion scored at 3:44 in the first on a disputed goal. The Cats and their coaching staff felt the puck was covered as well as the net being off the post, but it was called a goal despite their protest. The Fusion took advantage of the Cats mental state as the scored again 20 seconds later to take the lead, and they would never look back.
Trailing 2-1 the Cats out shot Fusion 15 to 7 in the second period, but it was the Fusion scoring with 21 seconds left in the period to take a 3-1 lead into the third period.
The comeback Cats couldnt pull off another victory allowing a power play goal plus another goal and only getting 4 shots in the third period as they lost 5-1.
Shots for the game were 22 for the Wildcats and 23 for the Fusion.
Comeback Cats!!!!!
November 11, 2011

The Wildcats bounced back from last weeks loss, with a third period comeback to defeat Greenville South 7-6.
Greenville South scored the first 3 goals of the game as the Wildcat fans and players were envisioning another bad loss, but Ryan Rowe scored on an assist from Tyler Parker with 1:29 left in the period to cut the lead to 3 to 1 and give everyone hope!
Rowe found the back of the net again at 13:40 in the second to pull the Wildcats to within 1 goal, and now we had a new game!!!!
The enthusiasm was short lived as Greeville South scored the next 3 goals, including 1 short handed, to take a 6-2 lead going into the third period.
Then the comeback started!!! Tyler Parker scored on an assist from Rowe and Johnny McLeod with 12:39 left to make it 6-3. With 5:26 left Parker scored on a one timer from Rowe to make the score 6-4 and give Wildcat fans a glimmer of hope!!
Parker found the net again with 4:18 left on the assist from Rowe and McLeod and the fans were in a frenzy as the Wildcats now trailed by 1.
After a Greenville timeout, Parker tallied his 4th goal of the night on a nice assist from McLeod and with 2:59 left in the game the score was tied at 6.
The tie was short lived as 53 seconds later Freshman Nick Scicchitano scored his first high school goal on the assist from McLeod and Parker, and the Wildcats had their first lead of the night at 7-6 with 2:05 left in the game!!!
The Wildcats were able to kill of the clock and escape with a 7-6 victory to move their record to 2-1.
The Wildcats out shot Greenville South 34 to 23 in the win.
Wildcats Embarrased in Charleston
November 4, 2011

The Wildcats played the worst game in recent memory Friday night, losing 7-1 to Bishop England.
BE out shot the Wildcats 13 to 5 in the first period, and scored with 58 seconds left to led 1 to nothing after the first period.
The Wildcats kept up with BE in shots for the second period 8 to 8, but BE was the only team to sore, and the Wildcats entered the third period trailing 2 to 0.
Unlike last week, there would be no fantastic finishes this week. Again the shots were even at 9 in the third period, but BE found the back of the net 5 times to the Wildcats 1, to win the game 7 to 1.
Tyler Parker scored the Wildcats only goal on an assist from Johnny McLeod, and Peyton McDonald faced 29 shots, stopping 22.
Wildcats Open Season with Shootout Win!!!
October 31, 2011

The Wildcats opened the 2011-12 season with an exciting shootout win over last years state champions Greenville North.
After giving up a short handed goal 10 min into the first period and being outplayed the entire period, the Wildcats settled down and played the second period to a 0-0 tie.
The third period saw the Wildcats dominate shots on goal and Ryan Rowe poked in the first goal of the season with the assist from Tyler Parker and Johnny McLeod 4 min. into the period to tie the score 1-1.
With 2:25 left in the game Johnny McLeod found the back of the net to give the Wildcats their first lead of the season. It would be short lived, as Greenville North scored 14 seconds later to tie the game at 2, which would be our score at the end of regulation.
In the shootout, Johnny McLeod scored as the Wildcats first shooter and Ryan Rowe scored as the final shooter to give the Wildcats the win, out shooting Greenville North 2-1 in the shootout!!!
Freshman goalie Peyton McDonald faced 25 shots, stopping 23 in his first game as a Wildcat to earn the victory.
