As President of the Twillingate, New World Island Minor Hockey Association, I would like to welcome all players, coaching staff, executive and parents back for another hockey season. It’s hard to believe that the summer has passed so quickly but I’m sure everyone is anxiously waiting to tie up those skates again and get out on the ice. That should happen on Saturday October 29th, 2011. Please keep checking website for details.
I want to bring to your attention a couple of items that developed from the HNL meetings in June and September. This year one parent must complete a Respect in Sport program offered through the Hockey Canada, via the internet. This was the program that you paid for during registration and we will give you the details as to how to register for this when they become available. Please ensure that a parent completes this as once completed it becomes part of your child’s registration with Hockey Canada and by 2013 every parent will have to have completed this program in order for your child to register with HNL. Also, this year there is a rule change on “Head Shots”. HNL and Hockey Canada has taken a “no tolerance” approach to Head Shots. You can view the details of this rule as well as the Respect in Sport program by going to HNL website at www.hockeynl.ca.
I also want all parents to know that anytime throughout the year that you have a concern that you feel is not being addressed by your child’s director, or coaching staff then please feel free to contact me or any member of the Executive. Our goal as an Executive is to make your child’s hockey experience a very memorable and enjoyable one. We are always open to any suggestions anyone has to make our association better. So please offer any suggestions that you might have.
Have a great 2011/12 Hockey Season.
David King
