    BRING YOUR PADS WERE HITTING

ALL PRACTICE'S ARE HELD AT MCNAMARA PARK

    Practice
I want to thank each one of you for playing a great season. The 0-2 start and then a 5 straight win run was a testament to our coaches and players. We turned around a team that was struggling and we decided to turn this thing around. We played hard tonight but fell to a better team. No question that we made our own mistakes that could have offset some of the damage but they were very impressive in the manner that they defended us and kept control of the clock and the ball.

This was my last game in semi-pro ball and I am thankful for the blessings of having an opportunity to play a regional playoff. 7 years we made the playoffs 5 times with two regional titles, 5 division titles and one undefeated championship ending with a number one ranking in 2005. How could a man ask for more than that. I got to coach with my best freinds who are coaches and learn how to build champions at Youth and High School.
I love this game with all my heart but I love the relationship that you have when men go to battle together and work towards a single goal. I have learned from you as much as I could have dreamed, many young men wanting to learn about the game of football and I have enjoyed taking some of you to a higher level. I have coached some of youth from Youth to high school and this season at semi pro. It has been an experience.

I will set up the season with the league for this team and arrange for the practice field to switched into the responsible parties names.

With great respect to all of you, I say good night and have a great week.

    Take care
John Villa former head coach of the North Valleys Finest

    Merced Mustangs

We need to send our get well prayers to Coach Ed Lasley's Grandson who has been diagnosed with leukemia. He is only 2 1/2 years old and is undergoing chemotherapy. We will wear a sticker on our helmets Friday night to remind us that little "Tyler Bettis" needs our prayers. Any donations would be gladly accepted to give to the family for the hardship they are going through. My personal prayers are for you and your family as you get through this, my close freind Ed Lasley.

May God bless your Grandson and family.

Coach Villa and the Mustang organization.

We have made the playoffs , now what do want to do with your chance? We started 0-2 and won our last 5 games with the win clinching in the last game of the regular season over the Bakersfield Reapers.

We play against the best team in the league, the Cen Cal Crusaders who are 8-0 and they are a very balanced, athletic team. Our best game must be played to compete for a chance in this game and the ultimate team character must be exhibited to win. (NO ME GUYS)

Everybody must sell out and play the roll assigned to them in whatever roll the can contribute. Our focus has made us better and our team chemistry has allowed us to play for a chance compete yet another week.

We must play a great game and be ready to sell out every play in every position of the game.

The most important component of Mustang tradition is our commitment to create a brotherhood among ourselves. This task is bigger, tougher, and more elusive than any opponent we ever face. It understands that I must lose some of myself in order to find others. Individual egos must die in order for a team to live. It's learning how to be a team player. To claim I am a good teammate or team player simply means I know how to sacrifice for a just cause, cooperate with my fellow human, respect the dignity of others, and can respond when called upon. This is what I call harmony, the key to understanding. Which one of us at this very moment is not a member of a team? Everyone here today is a team. Parents work as a team raising and caring for their children. When involved in clubs, city government, and community projects we are members of a team. My classrooms are teams. The question we all must ask ourselves is, "what kind of team player are we?" We must understand that sometimes our needs and wants are secondary to the greater good of the whole. ( this quote is from the De Lasalle Head coach in a speech he gave about his program.

    Warrior Creed

The warrior spirit reminds me that no one can stop me today: That this is my day.  Hidden inside of me is a warrior who reacts on instinct waiting to be released.  As I buckle my chinstrap, instinct consumes my body and mind, knowing that I have worked harder and prepared myself to conquer the man across from me.  Life will no longer be the same.  I will push myself to unbearable pain only to have that pain fade away each time the ball is snapped.  Fatigue plays no favorites in football.  It only fears those who have worked hard in the days before the game.  I visualize myself making plays only champions could make.  My heart races as the game is fast and bodies move in blurred motion.  Blood and sweat bead off my body as the game goes on.  My emotions take over, challenging my limits.  It’s simple!  The battlefield is made up of warriors that play an intense game based upon the elements of speed, strength and endurance.  This game is a way of life, and it has taught me all that I know.  After each battle, I lie physically exhausted, left only to ponder on the blessings of competition and victory.
