Knights Win 2011 St. Patty's Pro Open Champioship

Knights make their first appearence on the National circuit by entering the Long Island, NY St. Patricks Day NIT. They went into the day saturday with high hopes, being matched up against 5th and 12th nationally ranked teams they knew they had a tough task ahead of them. Their first matchup proved to be too much as the Blue Dogs came out the gate and beat them 20-0 to start the day off. Despite the loss the CT Knights looked strong throughout the game, their main weakness was giving up the big play on 4th and long 3 times against the Blue Dogs high powered offense.

Looking to rebound the Knights were then matched up with the Baltimore Scorpions. After moving the ball up and down the field the entire game the Knights kept coming up short in the redzone and were unable to punch it in for a score but their solid defensive play allowed the game to finish at a 0-0 tie.

The slow start placed the Knights in the Pro Open Bracket, but they would not let that put a damper on their weekend. They had the early morning game against the Wolfpac finally got some points on the board winning the first game of the day 8-0. But after that the scheduling was not in their favor, having to sit for almost 4 hours before they would have their chance to seek revenge against the Baltimore Scorpions who they had tied the pervious day. As the game started, finally the Knights offense starting looking like the offense we all know and love, as they man handled the Baltimore team by defeating them 14-0, granting them a bid to the Pro Open Championship.

Going into the Championship Knights felt they were playing their best football of the weekend and indeed they were right putting in two first half scores going up 14-0 and recieving the ball in the second half. After an inspirational halftime speech from their Captain, Knights came out and pretty much put the "Nail in the Coffin" for the NY Cannoneers by returning the second half kick for a touchdown. The offensne then managed to run the clock down turning the ball back over with only a minute or so left. The defense then regrouped, realizing that if they can keep their opponent out of the endzone this would be their 4th straight shutout of the weekend, only surrending points to the Blue Dogs, who were about to play in the Pro Championship. The Cannoneers were not going to just lay down and accept defeat, they drove the ball all the way down to the 2 yard line. With 18 seconds left on the clock the quarterback tried forcing the throw over the middle as the oppurtunistic defense picked it off and went the full length of the field for the score finishing the game 28-0.

Congratulations to the CT Knights for their successes in the first national tournament entered and looking foward to seeing many more wins in the near future.

Knights Take Waterbury

For the 3rd time in 4 seasons, the Southington Knights held up the 5' Championship trophy for winning Waterbury's Fall League defeating the Gators 27-20. The two teams have now won the last 8 Waterbury league titles.

The Gators jumped out to an early 14-0 lead behind QB Joey Edmonds 50 yd TD strike and 15yd scoring scramble. The Knights however, did not panic and slowly chipped away and took a 15-14 lead into the final 50 seconds of the half on two TD's from the versatile TE/QB Kelvin Riddle (1 rec/1 rushing). But the Gators walked right back down the field and a WR screen to Carl "Shank" Bond put the Gators back on top 20-15 at the half.

The second half was much more of a defensive battle, especially from the Knights who turned up the heat on the Gators O-line. With the Knights bigs winning the battles in both trenches, QB Jon "Ish" Esmail directed the offense to 2 scoring drives with excellent play calling and his ability to throw on the move. The Gators had a chance to tie the score in the final minute but 3 consecutive sacks from NG Tony Bell sealed the win for the Knights.

Shout out to both teams for playing a great game!!
