The 2011 CYO Girls Volleyball Championships ended in grand fashion on Sunday, 11/6 as the Final Four teams gathered at St. Mary's Academy.
In the title game, upstart Assumption BVM (Pasadena) looked to continue their impressive run as they met perennial CYO powerhouse American Martyrs (Manhattan Beach). ABVM, the #5 seed coming in, knocked of #1 Corpus Christi in the semi-finals, becoming the first team from the San Gabriel Valley to advance to a CYO final game since 2009.
Alas, AMS demonstrated their exceptional volleyball skills and claimed their fifth consecutive CYO Championship in two games. It was a hard fought win and ABVM battled mightily, forcing Martyrs to give it their all in the decisive second game.
Congrats to American Martyrs on their outstanding performance and impressive season!
The third place game pitted Corpus Christi against another powerful beach team in St. Lawrence Martyr. SLM took the first game, which awoke the Corpus squad, who fought back to win game two and the deciding game three to claim the third place trophy.
Congrats to all the players and coaches on reaching the pinnacle of the CYO Girls Volleyball playoffs.
