American Martyrs and St Rita kept the tradition alive of very close and exciting CYO championship games in football. In the end, it was the Mustangs of American Martyrs who survived the challenge and won the championship game 30 to 20. After American Martyrs took the opening kickoff drive and marched downfield for a touchdown and 2 point conversion, the Raiders of St Rita settled down and scored the next 14 points and had another scoring opportunity but the Mustang D prevailed. After exchanging touchdowns in the second half, American Martyrs scored with a minute and a half left in the game to lead 24 to 20. St Rita, however, marched down the field deep into Mustang territory but a pick six on the final play preserved the victory for American Martyrs. In the CYO third place game, St Benedict held on to defeat Holy Trinity 20 to 14. Congratulations to all four schools for an excellent season.
