Yankees Stopped 9-8 in playoffs by Padres
The Yankees fell victim to an energized Padres team 9-8 at Al Abrams field to end their bid for a third consecutive championship in the Dapper Dan Minor League Division. With Ryan Muir out the team shuffled the line up and fell just short as they had bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning but were unable to push the tying run across. For the game Tysen Todd collected two singles, Ronnie Conner two singles, Kyleigh Sellers a single and triple, Devon Hazelton two singles, while JT Stevenson, Dom Mazzeo, and Trent Groves each had one single each. As this is the teams last game all the coaches want to that the players for giving us the effort day in and day out that we ask and hope each one of you have learned something this year.
Groves pitches Yanks to 13-3 Playoff win over Royals
Trent Groves picked up his first win of the season in a big way by pitching a complete four inning game powering the Yankees over the Royals 13-3. Groves started the first inning slow walking six and gave up the three runs for the game but came back to strike out two in the inning. The rest of the game Trent game up only one hit and fanned five additional hitters. At the plate the Yanks were lead by Tysen Todd who scored four runs on three singles and a walk, JT Stevenson two triples, Kyleigh Sellers a triple and single, Dom Mazzeo a triple and single, Devon Hazelton two singles, while Ronnie Conner, Trent Groves and Harrison Winters each had singles. This was Harrison Winters first hit of the season so we know he and his family are happy about that monkey!! Great Job! The Yankees now get to advance to the next round and will face the Padres in a game slated for Thursday evening at 7:30 on Al Abrams Field.
Playoff Information
The Yankees finished the regular season in second place and will now face the Royals in a 7:30 contest on Tuesday evening at Long Field. The Second round game will feature the winner of the Yankee/Royals facing the winner of the Padres/Angels in a 7:30 contest at Long Field on Thursday Evening. The Championship Series will be Saturday at 7:00, Sunday at 7:00, and if needed Tuesday at 5:30. All games will be at the Park except for the if needed game which will be at Abrams.
Yanks/Red Sox game cancelled
Due to weather the Yankees vs Red Sox game has been canceled and will not be made up as a win or a loss for either team will not affect the official league standings.
Yankees beat Ranger 10-2
The Yankees defeated the Rangers 10-2 in Minor League action at Al Abrams Field. Tysen Todd went three for three and scored two runs and Ronnie Conner pitched four strong innings before giving way to Ryan Muir in the fifth. Leading hitters for the Yanks were Tysen with his three singles, Ronnie Conner two singles, JT Stevenson a triple and single, while Ryan Muir picked up a single. For the Rangers they were lead by DJ Engle with a double. The Yanks next game will be against the Red Sox.
Yankee player info in Dappers 7-4 All Star Win
The Dappers beat the Dans 7-4 in the Minor League All Star Game. The Yankee players provided much assistance in the victory as JT Stevenson, Ronnie Conner and Ryan Muir pitched in the game to battery mate Dom Mazzeo with JT picking up the win in the game. Kyleigh Sellers played a great first base and had the Dan team play back at the fences when she came to the plate. Muir was the star of the game at the plate hitting a double and two singles while Stevenson and Conner each singled. Congratulations to all these players.
Yanks name five to All Star Team
The Yankees have named five players to participate in Sundays All Star Game to be played at 7:00 at Long Field.
 Leading hitter Ronnie Conner (.750) has been names as an infielder and pitcher. So far this year Ronnie has played solid at Short Stop and gone 21 for 28 at the plate. He has pitched 15 2/3 innings and picked up one win this season and has struck out 27 batters.
 Ryan Muir has been a pleasant surprise on the mound this season picking up a team leading three victories in 12 innings of work while striking out 29 batters. At the plate Ryan is hitting .704.
 JT Stevenson is currently the teams third leading hitting batting .692 and has played a solid infield and picked up two wins on the mound pitching a total of 17 innings striking out 30 batters.
 Dom Mazzeo is the man behind the mask and is being named to the Team as a catcher. He is currently hitting .500 and has done a tremendous job making plays behind the plate in his second year at the catchers position.
 Kyleigh Sellers is currently hitting .478 for the team and has played mostly third base all season but is capable of playing first if called upon. She is a treat anytime she comes to the plate as fans have seen many scorched balls hit off her bat this season.
Muir, Yankees beat Royals 16-1
Ryan Muir lead the Yankees to victory over the Royals 16-1. On the mound Ryan threw three innings of one hit ball striking out nine hitters while giving up only one run. at the plate Ryan scored twice and singled twice. Other leading hitters for the Yankees were
Ronnie Conner three singles, Kyleigh Sellers a triple, while JT Stevenson and Tysen Todd singled once. The Yankees will be in action next Tuesday against the Rangers at 7:30 at Abrams.
Astros defeat Yankees 13-6
The Astros downed the Yankees 13-6 in Minor League action on Monday evening at Al Abrams. JT Stevenson started the game for the Yankees and was tagged with the loss as he gave up 6 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6 hitters. Ronnie Conner came on in the fourth to finish out the game giving up seven runs on nine hits with striking out four batters. The team never quit as they kept battling against Astros ace Caleb Harden who pitched four innings giving up six runs on eight hits before giving way to Noah Weber who finished the final two frames shutting down the Yanks on two scoreless innings giving up two hits. Leading hitters for the Yankees were Ronnie Conner with two singles and a double, JT Stevenson with a triple and single, Kyleigh Sellers a double, Ryan Muir a double and single, Devon Hazelton a triple, and Trent Groves a single. For the Astros Cameron Bollinger had a single and double, Nick Stumbaugh a single and three doubles, Caleb Harden a triple, double, and single, and Holden Sibley a triple. The Yankees will be competing again on Thursday evening at 7:30 against the Royals at Al Abrams.
Yankees beat Padres 11-9
The Yankees beat the Padres be hide the hitting of Devon Hazelton who had a double and two single and Kyleigh Sellers three singles. Ryan Muir got the win on the mound and got great relief from Ronnie Conner to hold the Padres to nine runs to the Yanks eleven. Hitters for the Yanks were Ryan Muir three singles, Ronnie Conner two singles, JT Stevenson two singles, Dom Mazzeo two singles, and Tysen Todd a single. For the Padres Logan Johnson had a triple, Hayden Dehaven a double and single,and Rashan Haines two singles and a triple. The Yanks will be in action next Monday against the Astros in a 5:30 start at Abrams.
Yanks get forfeit from the Indians
The Indians only had 7 players show for their game against the Yankees and decided to forfeit the game rather than reschedule as they already have several games to play due to weather.
Yanks come back to beat Rangers 10-9
The Yankees came back from being down 8-1 in the second inning to beat the Rangers 10-9 in minor league action on Saturday evening at Al Abrams field. The Rangers hit the ball and made plays in the field all night to make a run in the game but fell short of tying the game in the sixth inning as Ronnie Conner took a ground ball at short and cut down Austin Layton at the plate with the tying run. For the evening JT Stevenson was on the hill and pitched the entire game but it was the second inning that gave JT and the Yanks fits as the Rangers picked up eight runs on five hits and four walks. The Yanks then just chipped away at the lead but had a great fourth inning as they scored six runs on six hits and three walks of their own to tie the game at nine. In the bottom of the fifth Ronnie Conner scored to put the Yanks on top good as they held the Rangers scoreless in the Sixth. For the evening JT Stevenson pitch all six inning giving up 9 runs on 10 hits, walking 6 and striking out 9 Ranger hitters. At the Plate Stevenson had a double and two singles, Ronnie Conner singled twice, Ryan Muir had two singles, Kyleigh Sellers tripled, while Trent Groves and Dom Mazzeo singled once. For the Rangers Dan King hit a double and two singles, Conner Kelly two singles, Austin Ferree doubled, and Austin Layton doubled. The Yanks will try to stay on track as they face the Indians on Monday evening at 7:30.
Stevenson and Conner See Action for A's in Major Division
 JT Stevenson and Ronnie Conner saw action in the A's 14-13 Loss to the Dodgers 
on Tuesday Evening at Long Field. JT finished the game playing three innings in the field and went 2 for 3 at the plate while Ronnie played two innings in the field. Congratulations to both these Yankee players.
Yankees take Angels 14-4
The Yankees defeated the Angels 14-4 Monday evening at Al Abrams field. Ronnie Conner went the distance on the mound giving up four runs on seven hits while walking five. The Yankees were given 14 walks in the game helping them get 14 runs in the game. Top hitter in the game was Ronnie Conner with a single, double, and triple, JT Stevenson with two singles, Kyleigh Sellers a double, while Ryan Muir and Devon Hazelton each singled. For the Angels Blake Beal had two singles and a double, Jacob Diehl had two singles.
The Yankees will play the Rangers on Saturday at 6:00 at Al Abrams field on a game that was originally scheduled for this Thursday.
Yankees Streak halted by Indians 2-1
The Minor Division Yankees had Streak of 33 straight games without a loss come to a halt Tuesday evening against the Indians with a 2-1 loss. The team faced a very good pitcher in Jaden Jessie who threw 108 pitches on the day recording 16 strikeout, giving up only 2 base on balls and allowing one run on seven hits. Yankee pitcher Ryan Muir held the Indian scoreless striking out 11 batters, walking 6, and gave up only two hits before giving way to JT Stevenson after one batter in the fifth. JT pitched out of a slight fifth inning jam striking out three batters. The Yankees failed to push across any insurance runs in the sixth inning as Jessie struck out Stevenson with runners on second and third to end the inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Isic Plummer hit a ball toward second baseman Ryan Muir who could not make the play and the ball rolled to near the fence for a triple. After a walk and a strike out Stevenson split the plate to Travaughn Taylor only to see the ball again go past fielders and to the fence to end the game in walk off fashion for the Indians. The Indians team and pitching of Jaden Jessie were outstanding and they should feel happy about the win. The Yankee team was lead in the game by hitters Ronnie Conner with two singles, Ryan Muir two singles, Tyson Todd, JT Stevenson, and Kyleigh Sellers each had one single each. The Indians were lead by Triston Eirich with a triple and single, Isic Plummer a triple, Travaugh Taylor a triple, while Cameron Howard had a single. Yankee pitchers fanned 15 Indian batters on the day. The Yankees will attempt to get back to their winning ways on Thursday against the Angels at 7:30 at Al Abrams.
Yanks Battle Astros to an 8-8 tie as both remain Unbeaten
In classic fashion the Yankees and the Astros battled to an 8-8 tie as both teams remain unbeaten in the early 2009 Minor Division Season. In the first inning the Yankee bats came out hot as they collected six runs off of seven hits but allowed the Astros to earn seven runs over their next two at bats on seven hits of their own. The Astros picked up another run in the third to take an 8-6 advantage but the Yankees drew to within one in the fourth and set up for an exciting final frame trailing 8-7. With one of the best arms in the league on the mound in Caleb Harden the Yanks were able to draw a couple of walks and with one out got a single from JT Stevenson to score Harrison Winters with the tying run. Harden came back and struck out two batters as the last was taken with bases loaded. In the bottom part of the inning the meat of the Astro order came up to face JT Stevenson who allow Cameron Bollinger to reach on a single, got an out on a Ronnie Conner to Trent Groves ground out, Walked the next two batters, got a soft liner to Groves and finished the inning with a grounder back to himself and tossed to Groves for the final put out of the game. Leading hitters for the Yankees Tyson Todd with two singles, Ronnie Conner a triple, JT Stevenson three singles, Kyleigh Sellers a triple and single, Ryan Muir two singles, Devon Hazelton a double and single, and Dom Mazzeo a double. For the Astros Noah Weber collected a double and single, Cameron Bollinger two singles, Nick Stumbaugh a triple and single, Caleb Harden three singles, Conner Brode a single and Holden Sibley a single. The next contest for the Yankees will be Tuesday night at 5:30 against the Indians at Al Abrams field.
Yankees Beat Padres 10-0
Yankees increased their record to 2-0 as they beat the Padres on Thursday evening at Al Abrams field by the score of 10-0. JT Stevenson turned in a fine performance on the mound as he pitched 4 scoreless innings of ball while striking out 9 Padre batters, giving up two walks, and two singles to Hayden Dehaven of the Padres. At the plate the Yankees were lead by Tyson Todd with two singles, Ronnie Conner with two singles and three runs scored, JT Stevenson a double and single while scoring three times, Ryan Muir two singles, and Dom Mazzeo a double. Yankees collecting a single each were Devon Hazelton, Trent Groves, and Kyleigh Sellers. Ryan Muir made a nice play on an over the should catch on a short fly ball. The entire team showed very good defense as they almost coverted a double play and made some very good decisions in the field. The Yankees will now face the Astros in a contest slated for 4:00 at Long Field in the Park Saturday afternoon.
Yankees Open Season with Victory over Royals 18-0
The Yankees opened the 2009 season with an 18-0 victory over the Royals in Minor League action at Long Field on Thursday. Ryan Muir took to the mound and pitched two solid innings striking out four while giving up two hits. Ronnie Conner finished the final two frames striking out 5 and yielding one hit. Offensively the Yankees hit the ball well as Dom Mazzeo had a triple and two singles, Devon Hazelton had a double and two singles, Trent Groves had four singles, Ronnie Conner and Ryan Muir had three singles each, JT Stevenson two singles, and rounding out the hitting Tysen Todd a single. The Yanks will take the field next Wednesday against the Astros. (note this game may get moved to Saturday due to Fort Hill Graduation)
Turn in for Fundraiser
Money and or buyout needs to be turned in to Jill Mazzeo by June 1. The delivery date will be on June 16.
Fundraising
Pizza kits have been distributed and Team Mother Jill Mazzeo will again be helping the team as she will be in charge of collecting the money and packets for delivery. With in the next few weeks please attempt to sell ten units of product or pay the buy out of $50.00. Players can do a combination as each piece is worth $5.00 to the organization so for every item short of 10 units sold players would pay the $5 per unit.
Practice Info
Players have had several practice times and have shown tremendous improvement in just a few weeks. We have learned to back up each other and communicate on the field. Hitting has been great and it appears that the pitching will be solid. It is fun to watch these players increase their ability from year to year.
2009 Practice Schedule
Yankee practice times will be Friday at 6:00 at Stitcher Field and Sunday at 4:00 at Al abrams. Additional times may be schedules at other fields.
Minor League Draft Held
The 2009 Minor League Draft has been held and the Yankees feel they picked up some future stars. Manager Greg Fansler scouting lead him to the decision to select Ellerslie transfer Logan Hockman (8), Harrison Winters (8), Trent Sponaugle (8), and as an automatic selection to the team Greg Fansler Jr. (10). We Want to welcome these new players to the team.
Fansler to Head Yankees for 2009 Season
Greg Fansler will assume the position of Manager of the Champion Yankees for the upcoming 2009 season. Scott Stevenson and Artie Conner will stay on to assist and hopefully keep a winning tradition going as the Yankees have many strong returning players for this season. Greg brings years of coaching experience and is currently an assistant with the State Champions Fort Hill High School Girls Softball Team. Greg has previously assisted with the Angels in 2007 and is excited about the upcoming challenge with the team and the chance to manage is son Greg Fansler Jr.
Yankees Drafted to Major Divisions
The major Division draft was recently held and four players from the championship team were taken in the first thirteen picks. John Ackerman was selected as the number one pick going to the Dodgers followed by Carter Funk as the number two going to the Athletics where he will play under last years Yankee Coach Scott Stevenson. Another first round selection was Blake Rhodes who was picked up by the Major Division champs Pirates. Zac Lee was selected in the second round being the overall 13th pick going to the orioles. Congratulations to all these players and best of luck on the upcoming season
Yankee Manager to move to Major Division
Yankee manager Scott Stevenson has been asked to coach the major division Athletics this season. After posting a two year record of 30-2 and winning two minor championships the major division coaches decided that with an opening the coach would be a good replacement. It is undetermined at this time if Scott will be able to coach both divisions

Stevenson to receive dual awards
Selected Dapper Dan Man, Manager of Year; Zegles, O’Kelly ‘most courageous’
CUMBERLAND — Scott Stevenson will be honored as both the Dapper Dan Man of the Year as well as the Dapper Dan Manager of the Year, while Ashten Zegles and Mike O’Kelly will be recognized as the most courageous athletes during the 61st annual Dapper Dan Awards Banquet Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Ali Ghan Shrine Club.
Stevenson will receive the Richard J. Cioni Memorial Award as the Man of the Year, and the Christ G. Charuhas Memorial Award as the Manager of the Year. Zegles and O’Kelly will be the recipients of the Joseph K. Mooney Memorial Award.
Zegles, a 2006 graduate of Fort Hill High School, where she was a cheerleader and honorable-mention All-City softball player, and O’Kelly, a senior running back for the Fort Hill football team, were seriously injured last year in two separate car accidents in which they were passengers. Zegles lost a leg and O’Kelly faced possible paralysis.
Although O’Kelly was unable to play, he was present at practices and on the sidelines at Fort Hill’s games last season, providing a constant source of inspiration to his teammates as the Sentinels went 11-2 and advanced to the Maryland Class 1A state championship game.
Stevenson, a graduate of Fort Hill High School, Allegany College of Maryland and Frostburg State University, coaches the Dapper Dan Yankees, having led them to the Minor Division championship in 2008 with a 16-0 record; and in 2007, going 14-2. He also coaches the Pee Wee White Sox in the Dapper Dan, as well as the Ridgeley Hawks pee-wee football team.
Stevenson has coached soccer in the YMCA Indoor Soccer League, assisted for Brown’s TV in the Hot Stove League, and assisted the Post 13 American Legion baseball team.
He is a member and past board member of the Cumberland Rotary Club, having been presented a Paul Harris Fellow 1999. He is a member of the Dapper Dan executive board, is the Dapper Dan liaison between the club and the City of Cumberland Parks and Recreation Department, and heads umpire training and scheduling for the Dapper Dan Little League.
He runs the Dapper Dan Little League field sign sponsor program, is the Dapper Dan web site administrator and is a past two-term president of the Western Maryland Food Bank.
Stevenson is a former member of Cumberland Life Underwriters, chairperson for the CLU Buck a Cup campaign to support the League for Crippled Children, and a former auxiliary board Member for Cumberland Nursing Home.
He played baseball for Frostburg State and Allegany College, and was a soccer and baseball player at Fort Hill, winning the Gary McGee Memorial Award as the top senior player in 1985. He played on the Cumberland Post 13 American Legion baseball team that won Mountain District title in 1985, and played for the Cumberland Rec League Cumberland Railroad YMCA championship team in 1986.
As a youngster, he played Hot Stove for the Cumberland Optimist, and little league for the Dapper Dan Reds, who won the 1978 championship. He also played basketball in the YMCA Sunday School League and the Cumberland Rec League.
Stevenson is sales representative in Commercial and Personal Insurance with Keller Stonebraker Insurance.
He and his wife, Terri, have two sons, J.T., 8; and Allan, 5. Stevenson is the son of Allan and Judy Stevenson.
