Delaware Umpire Named to World Cup of Softball Crew
DASA Deputy UIC, ASA/USA Elite and ISF Certified umpire Diane Carden has been named one of the three ASA umpires representing the USA at the World Cup of Softball VII . The WCOS will run from June 28th to July 2nd in the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium & Complex in Oklahoma City, OK. There will be a fair amount of coverage of this tournament by ESPN.
Diane is a member of DSUA and serves as the assignor. She is the Rules Interpreter for Delaware's HS softball governing body, DIAA. Diane, also, works a heavy NCAA schedule and will hopefully see some post-season action this year.
This is a great honor for Diane and a positive reflection on Delaware ASA and DSUA.
Congratulations!
Here We Go!
As we enter Spring, the softball world is coming back to life!
High school and college ball are underway with the slow-pitch leagues kicking in later in April
Some things to keep in mind. Even though the climate is not yet that of a sweltering summer day, it is still important to keep hydrated and in proper physical condition to avoid cramps and injury on the field.
Also, be wary of possible safety issues with storms. Check out ASA's lightning policy below. You are strongly encouraged to use this guideline when experiencing dangerous weather conditions regardless of the opinions or pressure to act in another manner.

Interested in Becoming an Umpire
If interested in becoming an umpire, go back to the Main Menu and click on "Contacts". Anyone on that list can point you in the right direction from the UICs to Association Presidents and Assignors.
Guidelines to Lightning Safety
All individuals participating in or observing an outdoor softball event are responsible for their own safety and should monitor threatening weather conditions. Before each practice, warm-up time, or game, the home plate umpire should appoint an individual as the designated “weather watcher.” If the home plate umpire is the only official at the event, then the home plate umpire should be responsible for the duties of the “weather watcher.” The individual will make the call to stop play, remove individuals from the field, and announce a warning to the spectators.
