Mustang Stampede-Danville-Quarterfinalists
August 8, 2009

Our Games:
Sonoma County Alliance Sat 8/8 W 1-0
Elk Grove Pride Sat 8/8 W 2-0
Lamorinda United 8/9 L 0-1
Quarter-Final Game vs MVLA Storm L 1-3
Davis Legacy Radiation made it to the quarterfinals of the Mustang Stampede.
In the first contest, Mallory Creamer was taken down just outside the box by the SCA 92G keeper who was ejected from the game for the infraction. Tahi Siale then bulleted the free kick off the hands of SCA’s back-up keeper and into the net for the game’s only goal. Radiation goalkeeper, Brianna Scholtens, preserved the shut-out.
Another shut-out, this time against the Elk Grove Pride, was ensured by tough defense led by Toni Darragh, Shay Moynahan, Siale, Megan Foy and Melissa Tong in the second game. Kelsey Kornelly and Alexes Ramirez provided the points on offense with a goal apiece in the 2-0 win.
Lamorinda United 91 scored very early in a third game that was called especially tight. Emily Bowers, Cookie Rocha, Kelly Riestenberg, Freddie Brandt and Morgan Garcia fought valiantly in the midfield but after Darragh’s exit because of a second yellow card, Radiation couldn’t pull off a win against the eventual tournament winner and lost 1-0.
Ramirez set up the lone Radiation goal in the quarterfinals against the MVLA Storm by passing to Creamer who crossed to Kilie Englehardt who followed her own shot off the keeper to score 3 minutes into the second half. Scholtens had some very nice saves but MVLA still managed to put several shots away to beat Radiation 3-1.

Davis Legacy Radiation went undefeated in the U19 Gold Division of the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase last weekend.
Kelsey Kornelly got things going against Rush 92 from Alaska by essentially willing the ball into the goal off a pass from Mallory Creamer. Alexes Ramirez scored next on a nice follow-up of a Creamer cross. Toni Darragh and Tahi Siale anchored the defense while Brooke Gary and Ashley Syme hustled in the midfield during the 2-0 win. Megan Foster had four saves in the shut-out.
Ramirez scored the lone goal for Radiation against the Crossfire Premier G91 from Washington. Melissa Tong and Darragh were standouts on defense, Foster saved a PK in the first half and Aisha Lott made a great save in the second during the 1-1 tie.
Creamer started the scoring three minutes into the game against West Coast FC United from Southern California off a header assisted by Ramirez. Creamer then returned the favor five minutes later by sending the ball to Ramirez who juked the keeper and tapped the ball into an open net. Cookie Rocha handled a Ramirez cross in front of the goal until Melissa Gomez put it home for Radiation’s final goal of the game four minutes later. Brianna Scholtens took a turn at goalkeeping and Freddie Brandt played exceptional D in the 3-1 win.
Creamer, Ramirez, Gomez and Aisha Lott scored and Lott, Siale and Rocha (2) assisted as Radiation easily beat the Real So Cal Blue 4-0 in their final game of the showcase.

US Club Regional Tournament-Turlock-SEMI-FINALISTS!
June 20, 2009

We finished as Semi-Finalists!
Davis Legacy Radiation
California Odyssey 6/22 2PM L 1-2 Semi-Final Game
Sonoma County Alliance 6/20 4PM W 2-0
Alpine FC Ruckus 6/21 10AM T 1-1
Delta Force 6/22 8AM W 2-1
The Davis Legacy Radiation knocked one of the top-ranked teams in northern California out of the running on their way to the semi-finals of US Club Regionals this year. The first half against 3rd-ranked Sonoma County Alliance was won by Radiation’s defense, Kelsey Kornelly, Katrina Sabatier and, especially, Shay Moynahan and Toni Darragh. Keeper Megan Foster had four saves and forward Brynne Konkel cleared a corner kick with her head to maintain a scoreless tie at halftime. The hustle and accurate passing of mid-fielders Emily Bowers, Kelly Riestenberg, Melissa Tong and Melissa Gomez sparked the offense in the second half until the dynamic duo of Cookie Rocha and Konkel connected on two set plays in five minutes, the first off a corner and the second off a free kick, to go ahead 2-0. Great D by Brooke Gary, O by Briana Scholtens and three more saves by Foster helped preserve the 2-0 shut-out.
Radiation came out strong in the game against the Alpine FC Ruckus led by the efforts of Mallory Creamer, Kilie Englehardt, Freddie Brandt, Moynahan, Tong, Kornelly, Riestenberg, Sabatier and Bowers. Although Darragh nearly scored off a corner in the first half it wasn’t until Rocha and Konkel connected on another corner kick that Radiation could put one in the net. Foster had four saves and Rocha another in the 1-1 tie.
Moynahan, Riestenberg and Darragh had stand-out games against the Delta Force. Kornelly scored first with a beautiful assist from Konkel and then, after the Force had tied it up a few minutes later, Konkel took one all the way in herself for the final goal of the 2-1 win.
California Odyssey scored with two minutes left in the first half of the semi-final game but on another set play, this time a corner kick from Gomez to Creamer, Radiation tied the game a minute later. Odyssey scored again in the first minutes of the second half, however, and Radiation was unable to come back from the 2-1 deficit.

The Finals!
Davis Legacy Radiation 1 vs. Burnaby United-Canada 2
The Davis Legacy U17 team, Radiation, went undefeated and unscored upon in the four games leading up to the finals of the Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup International Showcase last weekend and would have been perfect but for a two-minute lapse in the championship game.
Alexes Ramirez scored off a beautifully placed cross from Kelsey Kornelly two minutes into the first contest against the Erin Mills Golden Eagles of Canada and the remainder of that first half was a defensive clinic put on in large part by Katrina Sabatier. Emily Bowers then volleyed the ball into the goal early in the second half off a corner kick taken by Ramirez. A few minutes later Mallory Creamer flicked a header to Ramirez who sent it home for her second goal of the game. Kilie Englehardt finished off the scoring by taking a pass from Brooke Gary and tapping it by the Eagles’ keeper who had come out too far. Megan Foster had two diving saves to preserve the 4-0 shut-out.
Toni Darragh, with help from Sabatier and Kornelly, sparked the defense in the early going of the second game against Nebraska ODP 92. Then Englehardt got the offense going by dropping a big arching pass in front of Ramirez who took advantage of the opportunity and scored. Englehardt then netted one of her own early in the second half and finally Creamer, with an assist from Morgan Throckmorton, rounded out the scoring. Christine Gilbertson and Foster had two diving saves each, one of Gilbertson’s a full body extension for an in-air grab, in the 3-0 victory.
Despite stellar passing and ball control by Ashley Syme, Jessica Mendoza, Melissa Tong, Shay Moynahan, Creamer, Gary and Ramirez, the next game against the Diamond Bar Barbarians from southern California ended in a 0-0 tie.
In the semi-final game Creamer sent a 35-yard direct kick sailing over the Utah Nike Rush keeper’s head for a first-half lead. Syme assisted Ramirez on a second-half goal and Gary, Mendoza, Sabatier, Tong and Moynahan were outstanding in the mid- and back-field in the 2-0 win.
The entire Radiation team brought their A games to the championship against the Burnaby United team from Vancouver Canada. Cookie Rocha, Erin Young, Sabatier, Moynahan and Englehardt were particularly impressive in the first half. Ten minutes into the game Englehardt crossed to Ramirez who took two touches and then tapped the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead. But in a two-minute stretch two minutes into the second half, Burnaby scored twice and in spite of great work and hustle by Darragh, Rocha, Kornelly, Mendoza and Tong, and several skillful near misses taken by Ramirez, Radiation could not come back from the 2-1 deficit and had to settle for second place.

Ajax United Winter Invitational-CHAMPIONS!
January 10, 2009

The Davis Legacy U17 team, Radiation, went undefeated and unscored on in winning the U18 division of the Ajax United Winter Invitational last weekend.
Kelsey Kornelly scored the first goal of the tournament against the Placer United 91 Black, a header with an assist from Morgan Throckmorton. The team took another 23 shots that game, Toni Darragh attempted a bicycle and a couple by Kilie Englehardt and Alexes Ramirez nearly found the net, but the final score remained 1-0. Katrina Sabatier made several beautiful plays at sweeper and keeper Megan Foster had a save in the win.
Radiation came up against nemesis Novato United next but within ten minutes of the start Cookie Rocha had assisted Ramirez for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. The second half got a bit rougha couple of yellow cards were issuedbut with some great passes by Ashley Syme, Erin Young and Mallory Creamer and tough defense by Shay Moynahan and keeper Christine Gilbertson, with one and two saves respectively, Radiation held on for the another 1-0 win.
The third game got off to a late start due to inclement weather but twelve minutes into the contest Rocha found Ramirez in the fog for the lead against the Ajax United Elite 91, ranked #3 in Northern California at the U18 level. Just before half-time Melissa Tong tapped a rebound off the Ajax keeper home for another score. Brooke Gary made a great save on a corner kick in the second half and Gilbertson and Foster had four saves between them to seal the 2-0 shut-out.
Coach David Robertson thought the soccer Radiation played in the first twenty minutes of the championship game against the Placer United 92 Gold was breathtaking. It culminated in a Kornelly goal. Thereafter Jessica Mendoza, Rocha, Sabatier, Tong and Moynahan kept up a particularly awesome pressure, Foster and Gilbertson had a save each and Radiation went on to win 1-0.Website
"On Your Toes" Hannah Welker Memorial Tournament-Finalist!
September 27, 2008

The Davis Legacy U17 “comp” team, Radiation, came within a PK of winning the “On Your Toes” Hannah Welker Memorial Tournament in Cupertino.
Despite excellent shots on goal by Alexes Ramirez, Kilie Englehardt and Toni Darragh, and tremendous defense by Shay Moynahan and Jessica Mendoza, Radiation’s first game against the Fremont Fury ended in a 0-0 tie. Keeper Megan Foster had three saves.
The scoring started in the first minute of the second game when Ramirez—held by her leg by the Central Valley Avalanche’s keeper—passed the ball to Mallory Creamer who tapped it in for the goal. A couple of minutes later Kelsey Kornelly redirected a corner kick from Ramirez into the net off her knee. Ramirez then schooled the Avalanche keeper for playing outside the box by chipping the ball over her head for two more goals, one assisted by Darragh and one by Englehardt. In the second half Brooke Gary played outstanding defense and Foster had another save to preserve the 4-0 shut-out.
Kornelly and Englehardt each scored a goal against the Manteca Extreme, assisted by Morgan Throckmorton and Emily Bowers, respectively. Katrina Sabatier and Melissa Tong were relentless in the mid-field and Foster had four saves in the 2-0 win.
Radiation started out strong in the championship game against the home club, North Valley/San Jose, with two goals early in the first half, one by Creamer and one by Bowers, both assisted by Ramirez. But NVSJ scored a PK just before half-time and two more goals early in the second half. Ashley Syme, Cookie Rocha, Creamer and Englehardt took good shots on goal later but it wasn’t until a hard shot by Ramirez was deflected into the goal by a NVSJ player that the game was tied up at 3-3. Christine Gilbertson and Foster each had two saves during regulation. Foster started the ensuing shoot-out with a great diving save and the teams were still tied after five penalty shots had been taken by each. But, when the seventh round of PKs was over, Radiation went home in second place.

Cal Rush Open-CHAMPIONS!
August 30, 2008

The Davis Legacy U17 competitive team, Radiation, won the California Rush Open tournament last weekend.
After losing their opening game against Novato United 1-0, the team went on to beat the Solano United Bears 4-0. Melissa Tong set up the first scoring drive with a great ball sent deep into the corner of the field. Novato ’s keeper intercepted but bobbled the cross and Kelly Riestenberg tapped the ball back in front of the net where Mallory Creamer finished for the goal. Alexes Ramirez scored next early in the second half with an assist from Emily Bowers. Morgan Throckmorton and Kelsey Kornelly completed the scoring off a penalty kick and a corner kick, respectively. Goalkeeper Christine Gilbertson had two nice saves in the shutout.
In their next game Radiation also shut out the home team, Cal Rush, which had scored a total of 15 goals in their two previous games in the tournament. The first half was a defensive struggle led by Katrina Sabatier, Jessica Mendoza and Kornelly and aided by saves from Cookie Rocha, Mendoza and keeper Megan Foster. In the second half, with Cal Rush down a player due to a red card send-off, an energized Radiation went on the offensive. Midfielders Brooke Gary, Kilie Englehardt and Riestenberg were outstanding but the game remained scoreless until a beautiful free kick by Ramirez deflected off a Cal Rush player and into the goal. Not long later, Rocha assisted Bowers to seal the 2-0 win. Gilbertson and Kornelly each had a second-half save to preserve the shutout.
Injuries affected Radiation’s game plan during the championship game against the Walnut Creek Strikers. At one point Coach David Robertson put keeper Gilbertson on the field when he ran out of other substitutes. Nevertheless, Ashley Syme and Gary played tremendous defense, Ramirez assisted both Throckmorton and Rocha for goals and the final score was 2-1 after the Strikers made a PK late in the game.
