Dragons Lose Season Finale to Carroll, 30-8
October 31, 2007
The Dragons did not close out the 2007 season the way that wished they would, as Carroll Middle School defeated Dillard 30-6 Wednesday at Dillard Drive Field. This was only the second game that Dragons actually played on their home field.
After spotting Carroll a 24-0 lead, the Dragons actually started playing good football on both sides of the ball. Highlighted by this was Naylaan Lopez's 63 yard touchdown run, and Sam Konkel's catch from Sal Savarese for the 2 point conversion. Hunter Williams also successfully kicked his second on-side kick of the season.
The coaching staff hopes that everyone had an enjoyable season and we look forward to seeing you next Tuesday night for the fall sports banquet. Again, this will be held in the Dillard Drive cafeteria. All forms for the banquet need to be turned into Mr. Jones before the end of the day Friday. Take care and we will see you next season..........
Dragons Win Night Game Against Ligon, 14-0
October 26, 2007
Shaquille Goodson scored two touchdowns, and Legrand Langford caught a two point conversion from quarterback Sal Savarese as the Dillard Dragons defeated Ligon Middle School 14-0 Tuesday night at Athens Drive High School. This was the second shutout of the season by the Dillard Defense. The defense is led by the following players: DeAndre Boulware, Maurice Hicks, Dreyon Cromartie, CJ Meekins, Andre Mosley, Hunter Williams, Mareke Patterson, Dionte Davis, LeGrand Langford, Sam Konkel, and Naylaan Lopez.
The victory capped off a great week of school spirt at Dillard Drive. Monday the team had a pep rally at the school to get the students excited about the night game. On Tuesday the team had a wonderful pot luck dinner that was presented by the team parents. The Dragons would like to thank Mr. Hicks and all the parents for all their time and efforts for putting on a wonderful meal for the players and coaches. Finally, the game was a great success. A great crowd came out to support the team and we were able to raise a lot of money for the sports program.
Please come out this Wednesday, October 31st, as the Dragons close out the 2007 season when they play host to Carroll MS. Game time is 3:45 pm.
The Dragons would also like to take this time to give a big thanks to Mr. Williams for taking time to film all of our games.

Dragons Lose Tough Game in Overtime to Carnage, 12-6
October 21, 2007
The Dragons had their first evenly contested game this year, having been on both sides of all 4 lopsided scoring games of the season. This past weeks opponent was the Spartans of Carnage. This game needed an extra session, as the Spartans were able to score on their first play in overtime to sink the Dragons. The final score was Carnage 12, Dillard 6.
The Dragons had command of most of the first half as Naylaan Lopez intercepted a Carnage pass and returned it into Carnage territory. Quarterback Sal Savarese mixed some running plays with his trio of running backs, and some passes to keep the Carnage defense on their heels. After a 19 yard pass to tight end Michael Estes, Savarese found fullback LeGrand Langford out in the flats for a 7 yard touchdown, to put the Dragons up 6-0. The 2 point conversion was failed. That was the way the score remained going into halftime after another Dragons drive was halted by pentalites and loss of downs.
The third quarter was the same story as the first two, as teams battled back and forth for field position. Nearing the end of the third quarter, the Carnage quarterback hit his receiver deep for a 47 yard gain. After the teams changed ends for the end of the third quarter, Carnage punched it in a few plays later for a touchdown and tying the score at 6-6. A failed 2-point conversion was stopped mainly by a great tackle by safety Naylaan Lopez.
Again, the Dragons got the ball moving again, picking up 5 first downs and moved the ball well into Carnage territory, until a turnover on a fumble sent the ball back to Carnage. They capitalized right away with a half-back option pass which sent their receiver deep into Dillard territory, finally being tackled at the Dillard 9. Carnage, however, could not capitalize as they too fumbled the ball, with Dillard falling on it. With under a minute to play, deep in their territory, the Dragons took a knee and played for overtime.
Carnage went on offense first and scored on a quarterback draw on their very first play, but again the 2 point conversion was failed. The Dragons were unable to capitalize on the mistake as they turned the ball over on a fumble on their possesion, ending the game with the final score Carnage 12, Dillard 6.
Big Plays Hurt Dragons Against Trojans
October 13, 2007
Coming off their first victory of the season, the Dragons knew that they would have their hands full when an undefeated North Garner Trojan team came to town for the home opener at Dillard Drive. Things were not going the way the Dragons would have liked, as North Garner returned the opening kick off 72 yards for a touchdown, and a 6-0 lead.
North Garner then scored a touchdown on a reverse for 33 yards, returned a punt 43 yards for a touchdown, and then capped off the first half with one more touchdown, extending the league to 26-0.
As both teams came out for the second half, it was a defensive struggle, as neither team was able to get into the endzone. Andre Mosley and DeAndre Boulware lead the defense with 4 tackles each, and the Dragons were able to stop 3 out of 4 2-point conversions.
The Dragons are looking forward to next week as they travel on the road for the last time as they play Carnage MS on October 17, 2007. Game time is 3:45 pm. A reminder that they night game at Athens Drive HS has been changed to Tuesday October 23, 2007, with the game kicking off at 7 pm.
Pep Rally Scheduled During Spirit Week
October 12, 2007
The annual pep rally to support fall sports will be held on Monday, October 22nd, 2007, during 6th period. This is during Dillard's Spirit Week, and also the week of our night game at Athens Drive High School. Parents and relatives are encouraged to come out and support all of the fall sports for their achievements this season so far.
A Quick Reminder
October 12, 2007
A quick reminder that our team trip to Athens Drive to see a JV football game will be next Thursday, October 18th. We will leave Dillard at 5:00 pm to go to dinner at the Golden Corral. From there we will travel to Athens Drive HS for the game against Panther Creek, which begins at 7:00 pm. Players and parents are both encouraged to come as it is a way to see what football at the next level is like. Players are asked to wear their Dillard Football T-shirt, and they are responsible for their own transportation to and from the game, and meal and admission fees.
Night Game Against Ligon Has Been Rescheduled
October 8, 2007
The football game at Athens Drive High School has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 23rd. The 5th quarter will start at 6:45 with the game following at 7:00. We are still in need of parents to volunteer food and beverages for the team meal before hand. If interested, please email Coach Yerger at byerger@wcpss.net
Dragons Win First Game of Season Against Martin, 34-0
October 5, 2007
After starting the season off with playing some of the conference's tougher opponents, the Dillard Dragons were able to taste the feeling of victory for the first time. The Dragons won their first game against the Martin Mustangs by a score of 34-0.
From the opening kick off, the Dragons came to play some serious football. They scored on their first possesion, large part due to a Sal Savarese pass to Sam Konkel which covered over 40 yards. Touchdowns throughout the game were scored by Naylaan Lopez (2), Shaquille Goodson (2), and Legrand Langford.
The defensive side of the ball had the same result. The Dragons did not give up a first down the entire game!!! The defense was led DeAndre Boulware, CJ Meekins, Maurice Hicks, and Mareke Patterson. Patterson was moved to linebacker to replace an injured Dragon and did a fantastic job.
All in all it was a great day for Dillard Drive, and it was great for the players to taste victory for the first of hopefully many times this season.

Dragons Lose To Tough Daniels Team
September 30, 2007
The Dillard Dragons have had bad luck when it came to scheduling. After opening the season to a very tough East Garner team, they had to turn around and play defending Central Conference Champion, Daniels Middle School. However, the Dragons came out to this game with much improved play. The final score was Daniels 26, Dillard 8. Despite the final score, the Dragons played much better than they did the previous week. They are continuing to work hard at practice, resulting in better play on the game field.
The Dragons opened the game with the ball, picked up 4 first downs and had the ball for almost the entire first quarter. Quarterback Sal Savarese completed 2 passes to TE Michael Estes, and Savarese picked up a couple of first downs on his own, by the way of the QB sneak.
With the Yellow Jackets leading just 12-0 at halftime, Daniels came out and worked their way down the field to increase the lead to 21-0. After a Dragons turnover, Daniels was able to score one more touchdown at the beginning of the fourth quarter, increasing their lead to 28-0.
That was all of the scoring for Daniels, as it was Dillard's turn to work the ball offensively. Shaquille Goodson had several good runs to move the ball deep into Daniel's terriory. Savarese took it from there, as he scored the Dragon's first touchdown of the season, making the final score 26-8.
Dionte Davis played inspried ball defensively making several key tackles, which included stopping three Daniels 2 point conversion tries. Davis, however, had to leave the game after he suffered a minor concussion from a tremendous hit that he laid on the Daniel's punt returner.
The next game for Dillard is Wednesday, October 3rd, on the road again at Martin. Game time is 3:45 PM.
Game Tape Needed
September 25, 2007
We are looking for a copy of last week's game against East Garner. If anyone happened to tape the game and would be willing to let us borrow a copy, or if you have a spare copy made and would be willing to part with it, we would really appreciate it. This is very valuable when putting together the season statistics. Thanks so much.

Dragons Drop Season Opener To East Garner, 28-0
September 20, 2007
The Dillard Dragons opened their 2007 season with a 28-0 loss to the Trojans of East Garner Middle School. Even though this wasn't the start that the Dragons players and coaches had in mind, there were some positive things that Dillard Drive was able to take away from the game. Highlighted by the defensive play of 7th grade safety Mareke Patterson, who had several key tackles that prevented many big plays from taking place. He also caught the first pass of the season from Dragon's quarterback Sal Savarese. Andre Mosley came into the game to play defensive back did a fantastic job out on the corner recording many nice tackles. C.J. Meekins really stepped up his game by playing the entire game both ways, due to injury suffered by OL Kyle Matheney. Kyle unfortunatley broke his wrist on one of the first plays of the game. We wish our best thoughts for a speedy recovery to Kyle. Finally, we have Devin Clater, who scored the Dragons first touchdown of the season on the first play during the fifth quarter game. Congrats goes out to the whole team, especially the defense who really tightened up and played a really nice second half. We as a team need to continue to work hard and improve during practice, with that more good plays will follow.
The Dragon's next game is Wednesday, September 26, as they travel on the road again to play defending Central Conference Champions Daniels Middle School. Game time again is 4:00 PM, with the fifth quarter game begining at 3:45. Continue to come out and support the Dragons.
Dragons to Take Trip to See High School Game
September 17, 2007
On Thursday, October 18th and Friday, we are planning to take the football team on a "field trip" to go watch a Junior Varsity game. The purpose of this trip is so the players can have a chance to see what a JV game is like, and to understand what it takes to be able to play at the next level.
Here are the details: JV Game, Thursday, 10/18, Panther Creek HS vs. Athens Drive HS, @ ADHS. Game time is 7:00 PM.
Players are responsible for their own transportation to and from the games (no players will be driven home), and they will be responsible for admission costs to the game.
We would like to have a team dinner at the Golden Corral before we go to the JV game. We will meet at the GC in Cary at 5:30 PM.
This is a great opportunity to see what football is like at the next level. Hope you all can make it.
Photographers Needed
September 17, 2007
With the first game just a few days away, I wanted to remind all parents that if any of you have a digital camera and take pictures at the game, email them to me and I will upload them onto the website for all to see.
Also, if anyone has a camcorder and is going to film the game on Wednesday, I was wondering if I could get a copy of that tape. That is a way for me to view the game, track player/team statistics/ and show to the team as a whole. Wake County does not allow middle school football teams to film their games, but parents, however, are permitted.
Thanks again for all of your support and the men have worked hard for this first game.

I will load them up on the web, and then I will send out reminders for you to check the website. My email address is byerger@wcpss.net. This is is a great communication factor
