2016 - 2017 Season
Welcome to the 2016-2017 High School Athletic season. Another summer has come and gone too quickly and the 2016 fall athletic season is now underway. We have another challenging year ahead of us and I wanted to reach out to you all and wish you luck on the upcoming school year and athletic seasons.
We have and will continue to make changes to the mission of the boosters to benefit all of the DHS student athletes. This year we plan to run 3 fund raising events and will no longer sell calendars. This year’s events will be as follows:
September 10, 2016 - Drive your student event with Greater Lowell Buick and GMC. This year we have partnered with an extremely community oriented car dealership in Lowell to participate in a Buick sponsored fundraising event. Buick will donate $10 for every person who test drives a car at Dracut Old Home day. If more than 100 people drive, Buick will double the amount and donate up to $10,000 for Dracut's student athletes!! In addition each test driver will be entered into a free raffle to win a LG 50" flat panel TV! This event is entirely free, all you need to do is stop by the booth on Old Home Day and take a few minutes to fill out a form and take a short test drive.
November 24, 2016 - 3rd Annual Dracut All-Sports Boosters Turkey Trot. This is a fun filled road race on Thanksgiving morning. It's a little shorter than a 5K and is open to anybody who wants to run or walk to support the DHS student athletes. Prizes are given out for the top finishers and raffles are given at the end of the race. Last year we had the drum line and the cheerleaders motivating the runners. It was a great event and this year we hope to grow the participation.
March 24, 2017 - Comedic Hypnotist at Princeton Station. This year we will be holding a hilarious event featuring a comedic hypnotist. Please bring all your friends and help us pack the venue for a great evening of fun. We will also be raffling off baskets put together by each athletic team. Last year at our comedy night we had some incredibly creative baskets including a lottery tree, cook-out basket, wine & cheese basket, fitness baskets and many others. The night will be a lot of fun.
As most of you know, at the last boosters general meeting we voted to approve the new by-laws. One major change to the bylaws significantly affects how we execute as an organization. 10% of all the fund raising done by teams participating in the boosters will be directed to the general fund. These funds will be used to benefit the DHS student athletes by making long term investments in the athletic programs that can provide a lasting legacy to all students participating in sports at Dracut High. In 2015 we realized that a disproportionate amount of money was going to short term team specific expenditures and very little was going to the general fund. We will also be working to create a financial base which will allow us to contribute significantly to capital expenses in addition to providing scholarships. We are committed as an organization to helping all of the student athletes at DHS.
Our first meeting will be September 8th at 7:00 in the DHS Cafeteria. I hope you see you there. I have included the general meeting schedule below. All meetings occur on the 2nd Thursday of every month.
