Due to not being able to get enough pitching for the 2010 season the Atlantic Coastal Drillers will not be able to defend their 2009 NABF Eastern Shore League and Salisbury Regional Championships.

The Atlantic Coastal Drillers season has come to an end as Manager Glenn Phillips has been unable to get enough players to play in the Maryland State Championship. The Drillers season was a successful one by winning the Eastern Shore League for the second time in three years and also winning the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Salisbury and advancing to the NABF World Series in Louisville, Kentucky. Drillers Lose Final Game To Louisville Stars

The Drillers lost to the host team Louisville Stars 11-7 on Saturday morning. Brandon McCabe had 2 doubles and a single with 3 RBI'S. Shawn Phillips and Joel Maher both had 2 hits each. The Drillers finished the NABF World Series 0-4. Next game for the Drillers will be 8/29/09 in the Maryland State Championship at Harford Community College vs. a team to be determined. The Drillers record now stands at (25-11).
Drillers Lose 3rd Game To Muskies

The Drillers scored 4 first inning runs and held a 5-4 lead after 4 innings but the Muskies scored 3 in the 5th and 9 runs in the 6th to put away the Drillers for a final score of 16-5. Justin Cody was the losing pitcher going 5 1/3 innings. Tyler Riley had 2 hits to lead the Drillers at the plate. This drops the Drillers record to 25-10. Next game for the Drillers will be Saturday morning at 9:30am vs. the host team Louisville Star Drywall.
Drillers Lose Tough One
August 13, 2009 —
The Drillers lost to A Plus Plumbing 5-4 on Thursday night. The Drillers comeback fell short with the tying run on 2nd base in the bottom of the ninth. Shawn Phillips was the losing pitcher with 7 strikeouts. Brandon McCabe hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 8th to pull the Drillers to within 1 run. Joel Maher, Shawn Phillips, Steve Sharff, and McCabe all had 2 hits each for the Drillers in the loss. The Drillers were down 5-0 after 3 innings but Phillips settled down and allowed 1 hit over the next 5 innings. David Webster pitched a scoreless 9th. The Drillers fall to 25-9 on the season. Next game for the Drillers will be 1pm Friday vs the Beecher Muskies out of Illinois(35-18).
Drillers Get No-Hit In Opener Of NABF World Series

The Atlantic Coastal Drillers opened the NABF World Series by being no-hit and beaten 11-0 in the opener by Walthers Cafe(32-8)out of Canton, Ohio. Zack Adkins took the loss for the Drillers who comitted 7 errors in the game. The loss drops the Drillers record to 25-8 on the season. Next game for the Drillers will be 7pm tonight vs A Plus Plumbing(25-5) out of Conn.

Drillers Win Mid-Atlantic Salisbury Regional Championship

For the 2nd time in 3 years the Atlantic Coastal Drillers have won the NABF Mid-Atlantic Salisbury Regional Championship with a 10-5 win over the Newark(NJ) Royals. Shawn Phillips was the winning pitcher throwing 3 hit shutout baseball through 5 innings giving way to the bullpen of Steve Sharff and Troy Brohawn. Matt Campbell and Brandon McCabe both homered to lead the Drillers hitting attack. The Drilllers record now stands at (25-7) The Drillers will now travel to Louisville, Kentucky to particpate in the 2009 NABF Major Division World Series. The Drillers first game will be Thursday morning at 9:30am vs. Walthers Cafe from Canton,Ohio.
Brohawn Leads Drillers To Championship Game

Troy Brohawn(Perdue) pitched a 5 hit shutout with 7 strikeouts over Boonesboro,Md. to lead the Drillers to the championship game of the NABF Mid-Atlantic Regional at the Henry Parker Complex in Salisbury,Md. by a score of 4-0. Matt Campbell led off for the Drillers with a solo homerun to left and also doubled. Joel Maher and Tanner Drennan also had RBI's for the Drillers(24-7). Drillers Move On To Semis Of Regional

The Atlantic Coastal Drillers defeated the Newark(NJ) Royals by a score of 5-2 on Saturday afternoon to move into the semi-finals of the Mid-Atlantic Regional and will face the Boonesboro(Md) Pirates at 10:30am on Sunday at the Henry Parker Complex. Brad Lee was the winning pitcher for the Drillers as he struckout 5 and gave up 1 earned run. Brandon McCabe and Tyler Riley(Perdue) had 2 hits each to lead the Drillers hitting attack. The Drillers record now stands at 23-7 on the 2009 season.
Frederick Flys By The Drillers

The Drillers did not do a whole lot right today in the second game of the regional vs the Frederick Flying Dogs as they were beaten 6-2 to fall to 1-1. Trevor Abbott was the losing pitcher for the Drillers as he could not get comfortable on the mound. The Drillers were held to 4 hits on the day. Next game for the Drillers is Saturday at 3pm at the complex vs. the Newark(NJ) Royals in a must win situation.
Drillers Crack The Bats
August 6, 2009 —
The Drillers opened the regional tournament in Salisbury with a 2-0 win over the Bamboo Bats(formerly Ranier Jewelers) on Thursday morning at the Henry Parker Complex. Shawn Phillips threw a 4 hit shutout with 10 strikeouts. Joel Maher(1 run)and Brandon McCabe(1 RBI) both had 2 hits each for the Drillers. The Drillers scored 2 runs in the first inning and Phillips never allowed a runner to reach third base. The Drillers also had a couple of fine defensive plays(Lance Kelley,Jaime Gladden)in support of Phillips. The next game for the Drillers will be 12pm Friday at the Henry Parker Complex. The Drillers record now stands at 22-6 on the 2009 season.
Drllers Knocked Out Of The Carter Tourney

The Drillers split 2 games on Monday night and getting knocked out of the Jimmy Carter Memorial Tournament. In the first game Steve Sharff pitched a one hit shutout with five strikeouts in leading the Drillers to a 10-0 win over Creighton Trailers. Joel Maher had 3 hits to lead the hitting attack. In the second game the Drillers fell to the Perdue Chicks and Troy Brohawns 3 hit shutout. The Drillers will now play in the Mid Atlantic Regional in Salisbury at the Henry S. Parker complex starting on Thursday morning at 10:00am vs a team to be determined.
Carter Tournament Delayed By Rain

Sunday's game vs. Creighton Trailers was rained out until Monday at 7:00pm. The winner will face Perdue in a losers bracket final at 9:00pm. The championship is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:00pm with the losers bracket winner having to beat Tri-County twice to win the tournament.

The Atlantic Coastal Drillers will play in the State Championship tournament on August 29 at Harford Community College with seedings to be determined at a later date between the states six league champions.

Storms rolled through Salisbury on Friday night delaying the start of the tournament until Saturday morning starting at 10:00am. The Drillers will open the tournament at 3:00pm vs. the winner of the Tri-County and Strutters game.
Drillers Split DH To Win League Title
July 25, 2009 —
The Atlantic Coastal Drillers(20-4)split a doubleheader with the Perdue Chicks(18-5) on Saturday night to win the 2009 Eastern Shore League title for the second time in three years and earn a spot in the NABF Mid-Atlantic Salisbury Regional Tournament starting 8/6 - 8/9.
In the first game Troy Brohawn of the Chicks held the Drillers in check until Jaime Gladden hit a three run homer in the sixth but that was as close as the Drillers would get as they lost 4-3. Brandon McCabe had 2 hits for the Drillers in defeat.
In the 2nd game two of the leagues best pitchers Shawn Phillips (Drillers), and JR Dobson(Chicks) proved to be as good as advertised. In the first inning Shawn Phillips hit a solo homerun to left with what proved to be the winning run. The Drillers ace pitched a 2 hit shutout with 8 strikeouts to earn the win 2-0. Brandon McCabe had a single and double with a run scored to lead the Drillers hitting attack.
Next game for the Drillers is in the end of the year Jimmy Carter Memorial tournament vs. a team to be determined on 8/1 at 11:00am at the Henry Parker Complex on Naylor Mill road.
Drillers Pound Strutters

The Atlantic Coastal Drillers beat the Strutters 12-3 on Wednesday night to improve to (19-3) and set up a showdown with the Perdue Chicks on Saturday night at 4:30 with a doubleheader to see who wins the 2009 league championship and the automatic berth into the NABF Salisbury Regional Tournament. Justin Cody pitched the first 6 innings for the Drillers and had 8 strikeouts while giving up only 2 hits and 1 run and picking up the win. Zack Adkins(2 innings) and Trevor Abbott(1 inning) each pitched well in relief. Brandon McCabe had 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Shawn Phillips and Joey Figgs both had 2 hits each.
Drillers Sweep Season Series From Tri-County
July 19, 2009 —
The Atlantic Coastal Drillers defeated Tri-County 2-1 and 4-2 to sweep the season series and improve their record to (18-3). In the first game Brad Lee picked up the win on the mound pitching a 3 hitter and striking out 6. Shawn Phillips picked the save while inducing a ground ball that Brandon Hearne turned into a double play. Jaime Gladden and Joey Figgs each drove in a run with a base hit. In the second game Shawn Phillips gave up 2 runs in the first inning and shut down Tri-Countys offense the rest of the game allowing only 1 hit over the next 6 innings while striking out 11 . Shawn Phillips also led the hitting attack with 3 hits and 2 RBI'S and Tanner Drennan also had 2 RBI'S with a first inning single. Next game for the Drillers will be Wednesday 7/22/09 at 7:30 vs. Strutters.
Drillers Beat Tri-County In A Thriller

The Drillers(16-3) beat Tri-County in a thriller Thursday night 4-3. Trevor Abbott outdueled Keith Schoffstall to pick up the win and Shawn Phillips struckout the last two batters with runners on 2nd and 3rd to pick up his 2nd save of the season. Trevor Abbott pitched 8 1/3 innings striking out 8 and only allowing 5 hits. Tanner Drennan had 3 hits and 3 RBI'S to lead the Drillers hitting attack. Next game for the Drillers will be Sunday at 4:30pm vs. Tri-County in a doubleheader.
Drillers Beat Perdue In A Battle For First

The Drillers beat the Perdue Chicks in a battle for first place 5-2 on Monday night. Shawn Phillips pitched a complete game with 15 strikeouts to lead the Drillers. Steve Sharff and Matt Campbell both had 2 hits and 2 RBI'S to lead the Drillers hitting attack. Joel Maher executed the suicide squeeze in the 3rd inning to give the Drillers the lead. Drillers Split With Strutters
July 11, 2009 —
The Drillers split a doubleheader with the Strutters winning the first game 7-1 and losing the second game by the score of 4-2. In the first game the Drillers used a 6 run first inning to beat the Strutters. Steve Sharff pitched the complete game win with 3 strikeouts and also had 2 hits leading the Drillers hitting attack. In the second game Lamar White baffled the Drillers hitting attack holding them to 6 hits as the Drillers left 8 men on base. Jaime Gladden had 10 strikeouts for the Drillers after settling down after giving up 3 runs on 1 hit in the first inning. Tanner Drennan had 2 hits leading the Drillers hitting attack. The Drillers (14-3) now fall into a first place tie with the Perdue Chicks with a game scheduled for Monday night at the Henry Parker Complex at 7:30pm.

The Drillers beat the Strutters 7-4 on Wednesday night as Justin Cody picked up the win on the mound with 6 strong innings of work, and 6 strikeouts. Steve Sharff pitched 2 innings with 5 strikeouts, and Shawn Phillips picked up the save with 1 inning of work and 3 strikeouts. Lance Kelley(2 RBI'S), Joey Figgs(2 RBI'S), and Brandon Hearne(1 RBI) all had 2 hits each. Shawn Phillips also had 3 hits(2 runs,1 RBI). The Drillers record now stands at 13-2. The Drillers used 7 hits and 11 walks to score 15 runs and beat the Strutters 15-2 Monday night to move to 12-2 on the season. Phillips Strikeouts 17 In Loss To Chicks

The Drillers lost to the Perdue Chicks in another great game of pitching and defense 1-0 in 10 innings. Shawn Phillips struckout 17 and gave up 3 hits while pitching a complete game. Troy Brohawn and Evan Ford combined to shutout the Drillers on 5 hits. Justin Sousa drove in the winning run with a line single to right in the top of the 10th to drive in Scott Jacobs. Shawn Phillips had 2 hits for the Drillers. Outstanding defense was played by both teams as Brandon McCabe made a diving catch in right field and Chad Sturgeon threw out the speedy Kevin Lindsay in the top of the 9th inning at second base for the Drillers. Brian Camper made two outstanding diving catches to rob the Drillers of basehits for the Chicks. The loss left the Drillers(11-2) with a 1/2 game lead over the Chicks(10-2). Drillers Comeback To Win Long 3 1/2 hr. Game
June 26, 2009 —
The Drillers scored 4 runs in the 8th and 5 runs in the 9th to comeback from a 4-2 deficit and beat Tri-County 11-6. Trevor Abbott started for the Drillers and pitched 3 hit baseball through 5 innings with 3 strikeouts but the bullpen could not hold off the hitters of Tr-County as they took a 4-2 lead going into the 8th. The Drillers were led by Brandon McCabe with 3 hits and 5 RBI'S. Lance Kelley, Joey Figgs, Shawn Phillips, and Chris Revel all had 2 hits each with Kelley scoring 4 runs and Revel scoring 2 runs. The Drillers swept the season series from Creighton Trailers with a 16-3 win to move their record to 10-1 on the season. The Drillers had 14 hits with Cody Collins, Brandon McCabe, and Shawn Phillips all with 3 hits each. Collins also drove in 4 runs, Phillips with 3, and McCabe with 2. Kaye Pinhey pitched well to get the win on the mound with 5 innings of work. Steve Sharff and Justin Cody each pitched a scoreless inning of relief in support of Pinhey. Next game for the Drillers is 6/26 vs. Tri-County at 7:30pm in a makeup game that was rained out last week at the complex.

The Drillers swept Creighton Trailers by scores of 11-1 and 13-3 to move to 9-1 on the season. In game one Brad Lee pitched a complete game with 6 strikeouts. Matt Campbell and Jaime Gladden both homered to lead the hitting attack. In game two Zach Trimbull got the win on the mound while Brandon McCabe homered and Joel Maher had 4 hits and 2 runs batted in to lead the Drillers hitting attack. Chicks Shutout Drillers
June 14, 2009 —
J.R. Dobson outdueled Shawn Phillips as the Chicks shutout the Drillers 1-0. The Drillers were only able to muster 1 hit against Dobson. The Chicks scored 1 run in the top of the first on a error by the Drillers 3rd baseman that allowed the eventual winning run to score. The Drillers and the Chicks were very evenly matched as both teams played very good defense and both had outstanding pitching. The Drillers remained in first place by a half game over the Chicks with the split. Next game for the Drillers will be Thursday 6/18/09 vs Tri-County at 7:30pm.
Lee and Collins Combine To Shutout Chicks

Brad Lee picked up the win while pitching 6 innings of shutout baseball and Cody Collins pitched a scoreless 7th for the save and the 1-0 shutout of the Perdue Chicks in the first game of the doubleheader. Troy Brohawn pitched well for the Chicks holding the Drillers to 4 hits on the day. Cody Collins also scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the 4th.

The Drillers forced a second game on Monday night (7:00pm) with a 2-1 win over Tri-County to see who wins the Jimmy Carter Memorial Tournament and also to see who goes to the Salisbury Regional Tournament this week. The Drillers played outstanding defense (Joel Maher diving catch) and great pitching from Jimmy Gill to send Tri-County to the losers bracket. Bobby Shaw hit a 2 run double in the 3rd inning to lead the Drillers hitting attack. Joel Maher also had 2 hits. The Drillers record now stands at 20-9 for the season.

The Drillers and Chicks battled until 11:30pm to see who would win the last regular season game between the two teams with the Chicks prevailing 6-5 in 11 innings. For the Drillers Joel Maher, and Kevin Hill each collected 3 hits each. Jamie Gladden had 2 hits and 2 RBI's. The Drillers ended the regular season with a (16-8) record and in 3rd place behind the Chicks and Tri-County. The Drillers could not push a run across against J.R.Dobson who held the Drillers offense to 5 hits. The Drillers only runner to reach 3rd base was Bobby Shaw who should have scored what proved to be the go ahead run in the bottom of the 4th when the Chicks 3rd baseman could have been called for obstruction but the umpire said he did not see it as Shaw tried to round the bag on a base hit by Jaime Gladden.

The Drillers lost a tough 4-3 decision to Tri-County and fell into 3rd place behind Perdue and Tri-County. Jimmy Gill had a fine pitching performance as he held a tough hitting Tri-County club in check for 6 innings. Tri-County got to Gill for 3 runs in the 7th. Andy Hartstein, Jamie Gladden, and Graylin Kitchens led the Drillers with 2 hits each. The Drillers record now stands at 16-6 with a doubleheader left to play with Perdue on Saturday night(5:30) at the complex. The Drillers second game of the World Series was against the runner-up from 2006 and the 2007 World Series Champions from Detroit, Michigan. Brandon McCabe hit a three run bomb in the top of the first inning. Eric Groff hit a solo home run to lead off the second inning. The Drillers then put the game away with a five run seventh inning on five hits. Chad Swiderski pitched six innings and gave the Drillers a big start with five strikeouts to pick up the World Series win. Mark Comolli pitched the final three innings and only allowing one hit to pick up the save. Eric Groff had four hits, Trey Hastings had three hits, Brian Rush and Brandon McCabe each had two hits each.

The Drillers went to Louisville, Kentucky with hopes of winning a World Series Title. In the first game 1/2 hour before gametime the sprinklers came on and flooded the pitchers mound and it was down hill from there. Starting pitcher Mark Comolli could not get comfortable. The Drillers ended up losing 9-3 to A-Plus Plumbing from Connecticut. Eric Groff had three hits and John Small had a two RBI double. Eric Groff also had three strikeouts in two innings of relief.

The Atlantic Coastal Drillers will be going to Louisville,Ky. on Thursday to compete in the World Series. Mark Comolli pitched a complete game five hitter with six strikeouts as the Drillers defeated the Harmony Highlanders from the Mid-MD semi-pro league (Frederick Co.) 5-0. The Drillers outfield of Scott Hearn, Joel Maher, and Brandon McCabe played oustanding defense behind Comolli. Several diving catches by Maher, and McCabe was capped off by a over the fence grab to save the shutout for Comolli by McCabe to end the game. Leading the hitting attack was Brandon McCabe who hit a towering solo homerun in the bottom of the second and also had a single and two runs scored. Justin Hoban and Eric Groff also had two hits each. Joel Maher scored two runs to go along with his outstanding defense in center field.

The Drillers used strong pitching and good defense to defeat the Harmony Highlanders in the second round of the Regional Tournament at Parkside High School 2-1 in ten innings. Mark Comolli again gave the Drillers a outstanding effort on the mound striking out eight and walking nobody pitching a complete game. Eric Groff, Trey Hastings, and Chad Swiderski all had two hits each to lead the Drillers hitting attack. Trey Hastings walked to lead off the tenth. Joel Maher sacrificed Hastings to second. Josh Wagner then hit a slow roller off the plate to the Highlanders third-baseman who threw the ball by the first-baseman and Trey Hastings scored the winning run. In game 1 Scott Hearn pitched 5 innings and also had a RBI single to lead the Drillers. Chad Swiderski (Hold) and Jason Rust (Save) also pitched well. The Drillers scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning on 4 consecutive base hits after a lead off double by Brian Miller. Billy Laird had a RBI single in the inning. The Atlantic Coastal Drillers beat the Purdue Chicks 10-3 for their first win ever. Purdue is the defending Champion of the Eastern Shore Semi-Pro Baseball League. Leading the way for the Drillers on the mound were Mark Comolli(Starter) 7 strikeouts, Brad Lee (win) 3 strikeouts, and Eric Bush (2 strikeouts) . Leading the hitting attack were Chad Swiderski with 3 hits, Jason Rust with 3 hits and 2 RBI'S, and Brian Rush with 3 hits.
