BLESS GOD'S WORD OF MEETING PEOPLE
Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one. So, when we finally meet the right one, we will know how to be grateful for that gift. When the door of happiness closes, another opens. But, often times, we look so long at the one that is closed, that we don't see the door that has opened for us. The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on the porch with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

It's true - we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Don't expect love in return, just wait for it to grow in their heart and if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone. Don't go for looks, they can deceive. Don't go for wealth, even that fades. Find the one who makes you smile and brightens any of your dark days.

Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go, be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you wants to do. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, and enough hope to make you happy. Always put yourself in other's shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts them too. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of anything that comes their way.

Happiness lies for those who cry those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a tear. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. You can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

"Friends are God's way of taking care of

JAGUARS DIRECTOR DOING IT AGAIN IN THE COMMUNITY

Malcolm Mackey is all about giving back
by Matt Nascone

Former NBA player Malcolm Mackey gathers together with some youth during a camp held by his team, the East Point Jaguars. Mackey played his college ball at Georgia Tech. (Special Photo)
slideshow Malcolm Mackey has a strong belief in doing charity work.

Mackey, a former NBA first-round pick and Georgia Tech star, said giving back to the McDonough and East Point communities is something he believes in.

“I think everyone has a duty to do some kind of charity,” Mackey said. “Everyone should take some time to help someone else in need, and not just within his or her family.”

Mackey grew up in Chattanooga, Tenn., but found a home when he received a scholarship to Georgia Tech after high school. Mackey has lived in McDonough since 1996.

“I never really left,” he said. “I may have gone off to play pro ball in the NBA and overseas, but this has always been my home.”

Mackey and his wife, Jennifer Mackey, raised their two children, Jasmine, 20, and Malik, 16, in the area and he said he does not plan on leaving any time soon.

Mackey said he annually volunteers at the Bull Martin Basketball Camp. The Bull Martin camp is more than a basketball camp. Campers learn about life lessons and Mackey said he enjoys talking with the campers every time he goes.

“We are always trying to improve ourselves as men and I am trying to share whatever knowledge I have with these kids,” Mackey said. “I am just doing God’s work.

Mackey is the general manager of the East Point Jaguars in the newly reformed American Basketball Association. The association disbanded after nine years in existence from 1967 to 1976, but is making a comeback in the 2013 season.

Mackey said he is trying to use basketball to help the surrounding area.

“My vision is to use basketball to do some community service,” Mackey said. “This is not just about what I do for the community, but what the Jaguars can do for the community.”

Mackey and the Jaguars will hold a free basic skills camp Sept. 15 at the Jefferson Gym of East Point from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp is for athletes ages 4 through 16.

Mackey said the Jaguars are looking for sponsors.

WE SUPPORT OUR LAWYER TO STATE REPRESENTATIVE
WE SUPPORT OUR LAWYER AS HE GOES FROM COURT HOUSE TO STATE HOUSE TO REPRESENT HIS COMMUNITY TO MAKE CHANGES IN THE DISTRICT 63 LET'S Meet Ronnie.
Ronnie Mabra, Jr. has called Georgia home his entire life. Ronnie is a proud native of Fayetteville where he was a standout varsity athlete for the Fayette County High School Tigers. Despite several out-of-state opportunities Ronnie was committed to staying in Georgia and attended the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech).
Ronnie’s parents always stressed academics over sports. Ronnie eagerly took their counsel to heart. As a member of the All-ACC Academic Honor Team, Ronnie successfully balanced Georgia Tech’s rigorous academic requirements with the challenges that accompany playing four seasons as a strong safety. In 2000, Ronnie made the difficult decision to forego the NFL Scouting Combine and instead set his sights on law school. Ronnie’s teammates fondly remember him traveling to away games with a defensive playbook in one hand and a law school study guide in the other. Again, keeping his talent in state Ronnie attended the University of Georgia School of Law.
Today, Ronnie is a dedicated trial lawyer and founder of the Mabra Firm, LLC., a personal injury firm in Midtown Atlanta, which is committed to serving injured Georgians. Ronnie is an active member of the legal community. He is a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association and the Fayette County Bar Association. In 2011 Ronnie was selected by Georgia Super Lawyers magazine to appear on its Rising Stars list, which features outstanding young lawyers throughout the state. Ronnie and his team dedicate considerable time and resources each year to pro bono work in order to help indigent Georgians with their legal needs.
Ronnie is married to former Ms. Dawn Brawley of Queens, New York. Ronnie and Dawn met during his last year of law school. The couple courted, fell in love, and were married soon after. Dawn, a health care professional, earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in Human Development. She also has graduate degrees from Emory University in Public Health and Georgia State University in Educational Psychology. She is currently an Informatics Reports Coordinator at Alere Healthcare.
Sticking to his deep Georgia roots, Ronnie continues to be active in his beloved community. Ronnie regularly speaks to children at local schools and to local civic organizations. He is an active member of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce. Ronnie regularly supports Democratic lawmakers, candidates and the Democratic Party. Additionally, he is an active member of the Fayette County Democratic Committee where he hosts the Committee’s annual Christmas celebration.
Ronnie and Dawn continue to live, shop, dine and worship in Fayetteville. They feel a particular sense of conviction to support local cancer research and fundraising efforts. Like so many other Georgia families, the effect of cancer has touched the Mabra family. The couple recognizes the importance of community action in helping to eradicate this deadly disease.
Ronnie’s love for his community and the state of Georgia continues to drive him to support his community. A passionate sports fan, you can often find Ronnie cheering for the Braves, Hawks, Falcons, Yellow-Jackets, Dawgs (when they are not playing Georgia Tech) and of course his Fayette County Tigers where he is an active Booster. Ronnie has a strong sense of obligation to Georgia for the many opportunities this state has given to him.
Ronnie looks forward to a lifetime of continued service to the great state of Georgia.
