Hoop Alott Overview
The HOOP ALOTT© ORGANIZATION
GOALS and OBJECTIVES:

The goal of HOOP ALOTT© is to foster both academic and athletic success in a safe and neutral environment. To accomplish this goal, our organizations outreach seeks youth’s from throughout the county, and offers programs for children whose ages range from six to eighteen.
As the founder of Hoop Alott©, I have lived and experienced firsthand what is going on in our impoverished and impacted communities. The organization was established after the loss of my own two brothers to gang violence. It was at that point that I became dedicated to empowering and helping today’s youth. Hoop Alott© is aware of the risk, challenges, alienation, and violence that today’s youth experience on a daily basis in the inner city, as well as throughout the county. The program strives to give the children tools to empower themselves and their future. There are many youths in the community who are great athletes, but lose focus and hope due to a variety of circumstances. The Hoop Alott© program offers a safe, viable, and non-secular alternative, for the development of the student-athlete. It is a program that can and will make a difference in a child’s life.

Through the use of basketball, the children learn valuable life lessons in a supportive environment. They learn about focus, commitment, fair play, sportsmanship, teamwork, determination, and working hard to achieve a goal. Whether they win or lose, they learn valuable lessons not only in success, but also in coping with losses and disappointments. In doing so, our goal is to foster a positive attitude, and demonstrate to our youth the tools that they will need in order to be reaching the next level in life and become active and productive members of our community and society as a whole.

ACADEMIC and ATHLETIC ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS:
An integral part of the Hoop Alott © program is the Academic and Athletic Program. This incorporates a S.A.T./A.C.T. assistance program to better assist the members in preparing for college entrance tests. In the future, we would like to provide financial assistance for those who cannot pay for the exams.

Mentoring Tutorial Program and Study Time
This is for students in program who need or would like to have extra help outside of the classroom. We use tutors (including peers), which assist the students in Math, English, Science, and a variety of other courses. The program is called F.A.M.I.L.Y which stands for Future Adults Mentoring In Lives of our Youths.

Grade Check
Students bring in school progress reports to ascertain if additional academic support is needed outside of school. Students are required to maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average in order to continue to play basketball. If a 2.5 grade point average is not maintained the student is not able to play basketball until improvement is made. The student is not kicked out of the organization, but cannot participate in the sports activities until they raise their grade point average.

Scouting and Placement
The Hoop Alott© program assist the student-athletes who is in trying to reach the goal of going to college (possibly on a scholarship). Our organization follows the student-athlete from their ninth grade year until their twelfth grade year. To develop their athletic potential the players participate in a variety of tournaments and leagues that provide exposure to college coaches. The organization not only focuses on the high school students, but prepares the younger students for the next level. Our first priority is for the students to maintain their grades. In return, we create bios about each player and hand out to scouts that are at the leagues or tournaments we are participating in. In addition, the organization works with each student to narrow his or her college choices, and assist in the application process.
A special thank you - to the past and present from Coach Louie Velez
To all that have participated as board members, coaches, players, and parents alike thank you. Because without your dedication, support, and hard work this really would have not been possible as this level. Thanks for establishing a solid foundation and legacy known as the San Diego Cougars, because without you it would never have been as productive or enjoyable. Also the sense of a special pride and gratitude goes out to donators who have helped through-out the years. Because without your on-going financial support, it never would have been possible, just knowing how many children and young adults through-out the county have been blessed by you. A special message goes out directly to the past players, just give back to society and when possible don’t forget your roots and responsibility as a person first and athlete second, because you will always be seen as our bright future.

With many fond memories,

Thoughts
Remember to honored the people who along the way helped you become the young man you are today. Because hopefully one day you will be standing tall saying "I would not be standing here today without all of them" "My family members who were never too tired to provide rides and support on my way to practices and games" "All of the coaches that been there for me, day in - day out and for their temperament which rubbed off on me, I say thank you."
