March 20, 2011: This weekend a special opportunity arose for
Crew '00 -to raise money and awareness of 9 yr. old Johnny
Hoffman's fight against cancer. Ayden's mom sent out a note to
the team regarding a gathering at Core
Chiropractic in Folsom Saturday morning, to carry signs and collection boxes
for donations.
With only one day's notice, more than half of the Crew roster showed up, and
walked the sidewalks and street corners carrying signs supporting Johnny. The
boys could be heard shouting "Please support Johnny's fight against cancer!
He is only 9 years old, and needs your help!, and "Donate for
Johnny!" In the three hours the boys walked in and around the Folsom
Outlet Center they collected an estimated $800.00.
Thank you to all of the generous Folsomites and visitors in the area
that willingly gave so much money.
The effort to help Johnny is spearheaded by Sacramento Kings player Tyreke
Evans. Tyreke donated t-shirts that were designed by his brother "Doc"
and sold at the Kings game last Friday night. The Maloofs, owners of the Kings
team, allowed the shirts to be sold during the game to raise money for Johnny.
They also allowed for time during the halftime show to share this charitable
activity. Between the Kings' game, and the Saturday morning activity, a total
of $3,000.00 has been raised. According to Dr. Kris Chaffin,
Evan's Chiropractor and supporter of fundraising for Johhny, "I am
working on a silent auction with items from the Kings and the owners, setting
our goals to raise $15,000 for Johnny!".
Thank you to all of the families that brought their Crew player
out in the rain, and showed so much love and support for someone in need that
they do not even know. This is the true spirit of Crew '00. GO
CREW!
