FREE LEARN TO PLAY LACROSSE CLINIC & SCRIMMAGE!
Free Learn to Play Lacrosse Clinic! Reserve your spot now!!
The Elk Grove Youth Lacrosse Club (EGYLC) will be conducting their next "Learn to Play Lacrosse Clinic" on Saturday November 14th from 3:00pm until 5:00pm. At Joseph Kerr Middle School.
The Elk Grove Youth Lacrosse Club will conduct one more "Learn to Play" Clinic this weekend at Joseph Kerr Middle School. As part of this clinic we will have our U-15 and U-13 players participate in an inter-squad scrimmage. The Clinic is free and equipment will be provided. It is however on a "First Come First Served" basis and space is limited! Please be sure to reserve your spot ASAP!

The scrimmage will be played during the first 30 minutes of the clinic, followed by an hour and a half clinic. The scrimmage will give new players a chance to see what lacrosse looks like played at our level for one of our teams.

Please reserve your spot by no later than 12:00 noon on Saturday. This will be our last Clinic before the Nov. 15th. deadline for early team registration.

The purpose of these "Learn to Play" clinics is to introduce new and beginning players to the game. The clinics are open to all boys and girls ages 7-17. Areas of concentration, are the basic fundamental skills of throwing, catching, scooping ground-balls, cradling, and shooting. The players will also be taught about the rules and general concepts of team offensive and defensive play. These clinics provide a great introduction to the game, and allow potential players the opportunity to see if they would enjoy playing for one of our teams when the season starts next spring. (Lacrosse season runs from basically February through May.) They also serve to shorten the learning curve for new players, as opposed to joining a team in February and trying to learn the game from scratch at that time.

To reserve a spot or for more info or questions please contact Bill Huss at williamhuss@earthlink.net or (916) 628-7272.

U-15 Gladiators win Bronze in NCJLA Championships
May 13, 2009 - 10:20 PM The Elk Grove Gladiators under-15 lacrosse team capped off a successful season by earning a bronze medal at the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Championships. The Gladiators completed the regular season with an 11-2 record, and won the first two rounds of the Northern California playoffs to vault into the Final Four, played last Sunday in Danville. In the first game of the Final Four, Elk Grove suffered its first loss of the postseason after an 8-1 setback to Santa Rosa.Dallin Hammond scored the lone goal for the Gladiators.

In the bronze medal round, Elk Grove survived four overtimes to beat the Palo Alto Tomahawks, 7-6.Devin Viramontes and Colton Hicks each scored goals in the first half of the medal round, but the Gladiators trailed 5-2 at halftime. Early in the third quarter, Luke Grable sparked a three-goal comeback. Soon after, Reid Thompson netted a goal off an assist by Connor Nolan. On the ensuing face-off, Ryan Murphy recovered the loose ball, broke free on a fast break and fired the equalizer shot.

The teams then traded goals, with Viramontes scoring the final regulation goal for Elk Grove. Defensemen Michael Drum, Dylan Hocevar and Connor Mooldyk, with goalie Collin Bettencourt, shut down Palo Alto in the second half, allowing only one goal. Both teams battled through three scoreless overtimes until finally one minute into the fourth OT, Hicks broke out on a fastbreak and blasted a shot past the Tomahawk goalie for the game-winner and sealed the bronze medal for Elk Grove. Congratulations on a GREAT season!

    CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PUPS TEAM
September 3, 2008 The Elk Grove Gladiators Pups team wins Silver at the NCJLA Championships! After coming from behind in the Semi-finals against an unbeaten Stuart Hall team to win 11-10. The Gladiators fought hard in the Championship game evening the score at 5-5 after being down by 3 goals in the fourth quarter. However the South Bay Crusaders prevailed scoring the game winning goal in the waning moments of the game. Our club is proud of this Pups team as competing for the Championship had not even crossed the team's mind at the beginning of the season. To put this into proper perspective-two-thirds of the players were new to the game. They finished the regular season at 13-1 scoring 117 goals (tied for 2nd most in the Pups division among 65 teams!), and only letting in 48. This is the first team in the Club's history to win a playoff game, let alone a medal. Congratulations again to a FANTASTIC season!

    Lacrosse Positions
Goal: The goalie's responsibility is to protect the goal and stop the opposing team from scoring. A good goalie leads the defense by reading the situation & directing the defense to react. He should have excellent hand/eye coordination & a strong voice. Quickness, agility, confidence & the ability to concentrate are also essential. Each team has one goalie in the goal during play.

Midfield: The midfielder's responsibility is to cover the entire field, playing both offense and defense. The midfielder is a key to the transition game, and is often called upon to clear the ball from defense to offense. A good midfielder demonstrates good stick work including throwing, catching and scooping. Speed and stamina are essential. Each team should have three midfielders on the field.

Defense: The defenseman's responsibility is to defend the goal. The defenseman generally restricts his play to the defensive end of the field. A good defenseman should be able to react quickly in game situations. Agility and aggressiveness are necessary, but great stick work is not essential to be effective. Each team should have three defensemen on the field.

Attack: The attackman's responsibility is to score goals. The attackman generally restricts his play to the offensive end of the field. A good attackman demonstrates excellent stick work with both hands and has quick feet to maneuver around the goal. Each team should have three attackmen on the field during play.
