Elko Gold History

The Elko Gold is a Club Baseball team based in Elko County, Nevada. Players are from Elko County, mainly from Elko and Spring Creek. Some players with ties to Elko County have also been invited to play.

The team was formed in 2003 by Brett Pearson, Alex Poirier and John Green. Coaches at one time or another have been Mike Shanks, George Lostra, Wil Antonucci, Jeff Mitchell, Al Pickett, Bob Hackler Sr. among others.

The purpose was to enable youth baseball players to improve their baseball skills by playing more games at a higher competitive level. The team played as The Ruby Mountain Baseball Club in Twin Falls, ID. Then as the Elko Gold in Salt Lake City, Elko (Exhibition series) and in Reno. Their record was 5-5. Several players participated in the Las Vegas Baseball Academy's Christmas Camp.

In 2005, The Elko Gold went as a 14U team to Sacramento, Las Vegas, Reno and Wendover, NV. The Elko Gold went as a 13U team to Orem and Lehi (south of Salt Lake City). Also a 10U team was formed and played in the same area. A 11U and 14U team played in the Las Vegas Baseball Academy's Fall Desert Classic.

The experience showed when the 13 year old Babe Ruth team won the Nevada State Championship in 2005. Many Gold players were part of this Championship team.
