Carly's uniform is in -- Allie will need the borrowed jerseys and shorts when she's cleared to play.
Since I have to order a uniform for Alexandra, if anyone needs new shirts (hint hint Nidhi) or shorts let me know
HEARTS 1 Colonia Twisters 1 << tie>>
Hearts had only ten players available to make up the Week A game but if the visitors thought they had an advantage, they quickly found out otherwise! Despite the fact Colonia got the ball to start, Hearts struck first when Sam drilled in Nidhi's throw-in barely 25 seconds into the game for a 1-0 Edison lead. Later in the first half, Colonia tied the score on a controversial goal. It looked from the sideline like the Twisters' forward knocked the ball down to her feet with her hand, then slipped a shot in, but the referee allowed the goal to stand. The second half was arguably the best effort top to bottom by every girl Hearts has ever had. Once the second half got underway, Amy, Krishna, and Dikha, all playing unfamiliar positions in the back, were more comfortable and starting launching counterattacks when they dispossessed the Twisters turning defense into attack. They were able to do so because Sarah was a force of nature at Sweeper, ranging far and wide to thwart Colonia's attacks. One the rare occasions when the Twisters managed a shot, Sana made several spectacular saves to deny the visitors. Despite playing shorthanded, and with the emerging sun warming the air, Hearts pressed a relentless attack especially over the final ten minutes. For the second game in a row, Hearts outshot their opponents (this week 21-11) as Alexa M., Lauren, Lexie L, Sam and Nidhi pounded away at the Colonia keeper. In the waning seconds, Nidhi made a throw-in but the whistle blew before Sam could try to convert the chance for her second tally. Every girl played hard for the full 80 minutes and they did well in all phases of the game. It's certainly a good possibility that if Vaishali wasn't out with a hamstring injury, and we had 11 girls on the field, Colonia would not have escaped with a tie.

We are looking at getting grey practice t-shirts with the professional Hearts logo on the front and this year's motto, "Turning Defense Into Attack" on the back.
Cost would be $6 for players and $8 for parents, older siblings, grandparents, confirmation sponsors, etc.
Will let you know when

This is a reminder that we only have one practice a week and the girls need to be there.
Remember if we don't get 8 girls at a practice, EUSA may not pay all of its normal allowance. (PS Only three parents have paid the extra amount for the trainer). There is a chance Anita may come back in November based on her surgery at St Peter's on Monday.

Hearts 0 Delaware Valley Devils 1
Finally Hearts began their U14 season under perfect blue skies at St Joseph High School with a strong effort that came up just a bit short. This was a good showing in all phases of the game. Hearts outshot Del Val 15-8, and would have tied the score if Alexa L's slotted shot off a pass from Nidhi wasn't called back for offsides. In practice, Anita has emphasized "turning defense into attack," and the defense played very well. Ali and Vaishali played exceptionally strong games in the back, so much so that Sarah often cleared the ball from near midfield. Most telling, against an older, bigger team of mostly 8th grade girls, Hearts asserted themselves to the tune of five fouls in the last 20 minutes. Next up, a make-up of the initial Week A game home this Saturday against Colonia.

As you may recall, EUSA does not pay 100% of the Sky Blue cost. The additional amount this season is $35 per player. Not a bad bargain for a trainer who plays for her national team and played 90 minutes a game for the WPS champions.

Many people assume that "Travel soccer" is the highest level of youth soccer but that isn't really the case. We play "club travel" in Mid-New Jersey (MNJYSA) which is, for all intents and purposes, kids who will eventually be on the same high school teams playing against each other. Above club travel are higher-level leagues that have players from several towns. These teams require significantly greater commitment financially and time-wise that club Travel and may involve playing regular season games in other states. Arguably the pinnacle of youth soccer is the national Olympic Development Program (ODP) which allows some of the very best players on a state-by-state basis to play against each other. The national U-17, U-20, and U-23 teams, and many Division 1 colleges, draw players from the states' ODP programs.
EUSA is very proud that Samantha Driscoll, who played four years from U9 through U12 with our FC Hearts' travel team, has made the pool of 30 players selected for the Northern New Jersey U13 ODP. Samantha will practice and train with the North Jersey group, and ultimately those girls, along with 30 from the South Jersey pool, will vie for places on the 34-player U13 ODP state roster.
EUSA congratulates Samantha on her accomplishment and wishes her the best as she continues her career beyond MNJYSA league play. Samantha has proven that a talented player, who takes soccer seriously and works diligently, can make the leap from Club travel to ODP. In these times when families struggle with their finances, Samantha has proven that even if a family can't afford to play on elite Regional teams, it is possible to earn a place in the ODP system.

Practice with WPS Champion FC Sky Blue will be WEDNESDAYS 7 PM to 8:30 PM starting 9-09-09. This is a time change from previous emails.
