Program Description
Our program starts the first Saturday after Labor Day and runs through the first Saturday of November. Fair Haven Soccer is open to children in grades Kindergarten through 8 who are either residents of Fair Haven, NJ or are enrolled in the Fair Haven school system. Fair Haven Soccer is affiliated with the Northern Monmouth Soccer Association (NMSA).
At the kindergarten through second grade levels, the program incorporates professional trainers who work with the parent/coaches to familiarize the early player with basic ball handling skills. The emphasis is on fun - the child learns the basics while having a good time. All practices are held Saturdays from morning through early afternoon, an hour per session. At these levels, boys and girls play at pretty much the same level, so they practice together. Practices are supported by trained professional coaches, which is good both for the kids as well as coaches new to Fair Haven's soccer program.
Grades 3 through 8 compete with teams from other towns. Teams are grouped by gender and grade level (3-4, 5-6, 7-8). At the 3-4 level, each team fields 8 players at a time, the older grades field the standard 11. There is typically one practice during the week, and games are played on Saturdays. Towards the end of the season, one Saturday is reserved for Tournament Day, where the teams will compete against each other for prizes, and is a lot of fun for everyone.
A note to parents: Fair Haven Soccer makes every effort to balance the teams at all grade levels so that all teams have an equal opportunity for success. Most important in the program is that the children enjoy themselves and learn something about the game and sportmanship in the process. If you desire a more competitive experience for your child, there is also Monmouth Ocean Soccer Association (MOSA). Monmouth Ocean Soccer Association .

Honoring The Game
The leadership of Fair Haven Soccer is committed to the principles of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) Positive Coaching Alliance which have the power to “transform youth sports so that sports can transform youth.” The most basic principle of PCA is known as “Honoring the Game.”
Honoring the Game gets to the ROOTS of positive play, where ROOTS stands for respect for:
Rules: We don’t bend the rules to win.
Opponents: A worthy opponent is a gift that forces us to play to our highest potential.
Officials: We treat officials with respect even when we disagree.
Teammates: We never do anything that would embarrass our team on or off the field.
Self: We live up to our own standards regardless of what others do.
On our teams, a “winner” will be defined as a player who gives maximum effort, continues to learn and improve, and who refuses to let mistakes (or fear of making mistakes) stop them. Accordingly, every player on our teams will receive equal playing time and chances to play in different positions, including goalie!
