Welcome all returning Coyotes and new Coyotes! We hope you are excited to begin the Coyotes second season and carry on our winning tradition on and off the field.
Below outlines information for parents and players as we head into the pre-season schedule. As always, should you have any questions, concerns, feedback, please contact me directly now or throughout the season.
Mission Statement: The mission of Fishhawk Coyotes Youth Lacrosose is to promote and honor the sport of lacrosse among our community for the purpose of developing a love of the game through positive coaching, sportsmanship among players, parents, coaches and officials, teaching life lessons beyond the playing field, recognition of all players' effort and participation regardless of ability, talent or skill.
Game Schedule: The Coyotes will be playing within the West Florida Lacrosse League (www.westfloridalacrosseleague.com). All games and practices will be posted on our website. This is the primary source for parents to access all pertinent information. Updates will be provided periodically, so please keep your eyes open for additions to the schedule, game report updates, team standings, etc. Expect a release date of the schedule by December. Regular season games will begin in January. It is expected most games will be on Saturdays with some games on Friday nights.
Practice Schedule: Upon firming up the dates and times with FishHawk Youth Sports Association, these practices will be posted on our website as well. Expect practice days to be Mondays and Thursday during the regular season. Dates for pre-season will be provided as soon as possible.
Competition: The nature of the sport of lacrosse has an intrinsic level of competition built in as our teams will be playing against other Tampa Bay REC and Youth programs within the West Florida Lacrosse League. Competition is an important element of any sport and as kids grow they naturally become more competitive. Playing time for games will be based primarily on sportsmanship, effort, behavior, and attendance and skill level. Game conditions will influence amount of playing time as well. As you would expect, the competitive nature is more predominant with the higher divisions.
Equipment Handout: For players who have not received their equipment, equipment handout day will be December 2nd beginning at 6:30pm at the FishHawk Sports Complex Lacrosse equipment shed. Each age group will be given a specific timeframe to pick-up their equipment. Details will be posted on our website shortly. A helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads, and gloves will be provided for the season and be returned at the end of the season. Game uniforms will be provided and kept by the players at the end of the season. Players will purchase their own stick, mouthguard, cup and field cleats. Bring a $200 deposit check for the equipment. This check will not be cashed provided all equipment is returned at the end of the season in proper condition.
Coyotes Apparel: Details coming soon on the full apparel clothes for players and parents, stay tuned.
Volunteer Program: Details will be provided prior to the season. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and is a large contribution to the overall success of the Coyotes.
Rules: Youth lacrosse is governed by US Lacrosse and the West Florida Lacrosse League. For those of you who are new to the sport you can access both websites (see below) to view youth rules and learn more about the game.
