Starting Friday September 30th the JUNIOR squad only will have additional instruction and practice for any players that are able to make it. Parents are welcome to join in as well. This will be same as practice times 5:30-7:30. This is not mandatory although it is recommended. No pads or helmets will be required for Friday's practices.
Spirit Wear Reminder
Just a reminder that spirit wear orders are due no later than Tuesday September 27th. We would appreciate if you could turn these in asap, preferably today Monday September 26th so we can start tallying the order. Thank you!
Sunday September 25th game
In honor of the Susan G Komen run on Sunday September 25th, any players that have pink socks can wear them if they wish. :) We will not be providing them this year. This is not mandatory, it is symbolic of support for the event. Also, October is breast cancer awareness month, players may wear their pink socks through the entire month of October if they choose.
**Attention Flag parents**
September 25, 2016 – 10:00 AM
Sunday September 25th we are at home vs the Springfield Blue Devils. Players are to arrive at times specified by his/her coach. In addition, due to the fact that Springfield does not have a flag team, they will have no official game. However, we ask that all players still come Sunday as we will be having a parent/coach vs flag player game in lieu of their game. Any volunteers who are signed up during the flag game is still needed and appreciated.
Snake Dance **NO Practice** ALL Squads**
September 22, 2016 – 05:00 PM
There will be NO practice for any squads Thursday September 22nd. All squads will be participating in the snake dance. The snake dance is the celebratory parade in which groups, schools and teams from all of Washington Local schools that run from Wernert Elementary to Whitmer Memorial Stadium, ending in an assembly and pep rally as part of the homecoming week festivities. Participating players please wear your game jerseys. The entire family is welcome to join and walk in the parade. This is NOT mandatory. We do encourage everyone to help represent Firebird Football & Cheer. Anyone able to bring a bag of candy is appreciated although not necessary to walk in the parade. Players and cheerleaders us the bags of candy to pass out to parade watchers on the parade route. We will meet at Wernert Elementary at 5:00.

September 14, 2016 – 05:15 PM
The juniors and the seniors are having a scrimmage Wednesday September 14th in lieu of practice at Meadowvale school. Coaches request that the players arrive by 5:15 pm in their practice uniforms. This is for the juniors and seniors only, NO flag.
Pants Pick up tonight 9/9/16
Any juniors that are available tonight from 6:30 - 7:30 pm, we are issuing game pants.
Seniors will be issued their pants Saturday morning at weigh ins.
Game day September 11th 2016!
Players should arrive for game day at the following times:
Flag: 10:15 am
Juniors: 11:30 am
Seniors: 1:00 pm
Players should have their complete uniform and wear game jersey & pants.

It is a hot one today! There is practice tonight, however it will be a light one. Meaning helmets and shoulder pads only. Please make sure to send plenty of water with your player(s) tonight.
Practice Memo, Weigh-ins, & Pictures
September 6, 2016
Starting Tuesday September 6th practice times will be from 5:30 to 7:30pm for the remainder of the season due to daylight.
**September 10th all players must attend weigh-ins at Westwood Park at 9:30am in order to be eligible to play in Sunday's game. Players are to wear their game jersey(no pads or game pants are needed) flag is to wear their game t-shirt which will be delivered this week.
**Also please mark your calendars for Saturday September 17th. ALL squads will have team pictures at 9:00am at our field. Package envelopes will go home with each player on Tuesday.
Note for practice Tuesday August 30th
We will be beginning to hand out our new game jerseys today. However, please be aware that your player may NOT get his same number as before. These are brand new jerseys this year and certain numbers were eliminated across the league as well as these are sized jerseys so the number your player had may not fit. This is why we have held off spirit wear ordering until we get jerseys issued.
Also, please note we have a lot of unturned in paperwork and payments. Your player will not receive his game jersey unless he is paid in full with all paperwork turned in.
***The only exeption will be those who have made payment arrangements prior to today. Once payments have been made (with those exceptions) your player will receive his jersey.
Message from Coaches
It is of vital importance that your player make it to practice as often as possible. We understand that emergencies come up as well as other issues. However, it is a must that players attend practice as much as possible. This is the age where the fundamentals are being learned. These things he/or she will need as they grow in this sport as well as it becomes a safety concern. For instance, if they are not tackling correctly this would be dangerous for him or his opponent if he is hit or hits incorrectly then it could be devastating. Also, it helps the team form a bond. When a link is missing continuously then the chain gets broken. It is very hard for coaches to teach them what they need to succeed if they are absent more often then they are present. No one expects them to be professional ballplayers at this age level, but showing up to practice shows a level of commitment to the team and it's players.
If your player needs to miss practice for any reason, please contact his coach and let him know how long he will be out.
August 27, 2016 – 10:00 AM
This Saturday August 27th from 10am-4pm we are having the Firebird Football Carwash at AutoZone (1515 E. Alexis Rd). Please come out and support our Firebird Football Players. Also, we are still in need of players and volunteers to make this event a success, especially the 12-2 and 2-4 time slots. If you are able to lend a hand, please contact Rachel Williams 419-279-2997. Thursday August 25th we will have a scrimmage against Greenwood Knights. Please arrive at 5:30 pm to warm up if possible. Scrimmage will begin promptly @ 6:00pm. All squads will have a scrimmage.

Firebird Football Carwash Fundraiser
August 27, 2016 – 10:00 AM
Firebird Football will be hosting a carwash fundraiser August 27th from 10am-4pm. We do need volunteers from all squads please. Coaches, parents and player participation is vital for this to be a success! We are signing up volunteers for 2 hour shifts. There will be no practice Tuesday August 23rd due to Open House.

3rd Annual Kick-off Picnic
August 12, 2016 – 06:00 PM
Come join us for our 3rd Annual Kick-off Picnic at the Shoreland Football field Friday August 12th 6pm - dark.
**Hot dogs & hamburgers will be provided.
**Please bring your own chairs, beverages & a dish to pass.
**Bring a game: cornhole, ladder toss, frisbees, football, soccer ball, volleyball, etc. (optional)
**Be sure to RSVP to Jason or Tracie by text/voicemail letting us know how many will be attending :) We look forward to seeing everyone!
**Event will be weather permitting. Friday August 19th will be the reschedule date.
Mandatory Volunteer Time Sign ups
Make sure to see Valarie this week during practice to sign up for your Volunteer times. Two volunteer times are required per family. She will be available for sign ups this week Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7pm until the end of practice. This is a very important duty that we need everyone to participate in to make game day more enjoyable. We appreciate all the help from our Firebird families.
August 8, 2016 – 06:00 PM
Practice times will begin Aug 8 for ALL squads
The first week of practice will be conditioning. All squads will condition together ALL week, including FLAG. Conditioning week will run 6-8 pm. Please be sure to bring LOTS of water. During the first week of conditioning ALL players should wear a white t-shirt with their last name only on it. This does not have to be a new shirt a tip is take an old one use a sharpie and write the name on it. During the first week this is to identify players and coaches.
Beginning the week of Aug 15 practice will be as follows:
FLAG: TUESDAY & THURSDAY from 6-8
JRS & SRS: DAILY MON-FRI from 6-8
**Practice times will move back after school starts beginning the week of August 29th. Those times are TBA.
**Friday practice will stop AFTER Whitmer begins their regular season games. We will keep you informed when these times stop as it gets closer.
